1 Prestem atenção, vocês que são ricos. Chorem e gemam de angústia por causa das desgraças que os esperam. 2 Sua riqueza apodreceu, e suas roupas finas são trapos comidos por traças. 3 Seu ouro e sua prata estão corroídos. A mesma riqueza com a qual vocês contavam devorará sua carne como fogo. Esse tesouro corroído que vocês acumularam testemunhará contra vocês nos últimos dias. 4 Por isso, ouçam os clamores dos que trabalharam em seus campos, cujo salário vocês retiveram de modo fraudulento! Sim, os clamores dos que fizeram a colheita em seus campos chegaram aos ouvidos do Senhor dos Exércitos.

5 Vocês levam uma vida de luxo na terra, satisfazendo seus desejos e engordando a si mesmos para o dia do abate. 6 Condenam e matam inocentes, sem que eles resistam.

7 Por isso, irmãos, sejam pacientes enquanto esperam a volta do Senhor. Vejam como os lavradores esperam pacientemente as chuvas do outono e da primavera. Com grande expectativa, aguardam o amadurecimento de sua preciosa colheita. 8 Sejam também pacientes. Fortaleçam-se em seu coração, pois a vinda do Senhor está próxima.

9 Irmãos, não se queixem uns dos outros, para que não sejam julgados. Pois, vejam, o Juiz está à porta!

10 Irmãos, tomem como exemplo de paciência no sofrimento os profetas que falaram em nome do Senhor. 11 Consideramos felizes aqueles que permanecem firmes em meio à aflição. Vocês ouviram falar de Jó, um homem de muita perseverança. Sabem como, no final, o Senhor foi bondoso com ele, pois o Senhor é cheio de compaixão e misericórdia.

12 Acima de tudo, meus irmãos, não jurem pelo céu, nem pela terra, nem por qualquer outra coisa. Que seu "sim" seja de fato sim, e seu "não", não, para que não pequem e sejam condenados.

13 Algum de vocês está passando por dificuldades? Então ore. Alguém está feliz? Cante louvores. 14 Alguém está doente? Chame os presbíteros da igreja para que venham e orem sobre ele e o unjam com óleo, em nome do Senhor. 15 Essa oração de fé curará o enfermo, e o Senhor o restabelecerá. E, se cometeu algum pecado, será perdoado.

16 Portanto, confessem seus pecados uns aos outros e orem uns pelos outros para serem curados. A oração de um justo tem grande poder e produz grandes resultados. 17 Elias era humano como nós e, no entanto, quando orou insistentemente para que não caísse chuva, não choveu durante três anos e meio. 18 Então ele orou outra vez e o céu enviou chuva, e a terra começou a produzir suas colheitas.

19 Meus irmãos, se algum de vocês se desviar da verdade e for trazido de volta, 20 saibam que quem trouxer o pecador de volta de seu desvio o salvará da morte e trará perdão para muitos pecados.

1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you. 2 Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies. 5 You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn’t resist you.

7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

9 Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door. 10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear— not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your "yes" be "yes", and your "no", "no", so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.

13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

19 Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
