1 Em Icónio, Paulo e Barnabé foram juntos à sinagoga e pregaram com tal poder que foi grande o número de pessoas que creram, tanto judeus como gentios. 2 Mas aqueles judeus que não acreditaram incitaram e indispuseram os gentios contra os irmãos. 3 Contudo, Paulo e Barnabé ficaram ali muito tempo, pregando com coragem sobre o Senhor, que ia testemunhando a mensagem da graça, dando-lhes poder para pelas suas mãos se realizarem sinais e maravilhas. 4 E a multidão da cidade dividiu-se: alguns concordavam com os judeus, outros apoiavam os apóstolos.

5 Quando Paulo e Barnabé souberam da conspiração que os gentios e os judeus, juntamente com os seus líderes, tramavam contra eles, para os atacarem e apedrejarem, 6 refugiaram-se nas cidades de Listra e Derbe, na Licaónia, e em toda aquela zona em volta, 7 pregando ali o evangelho.

8 Em Listra encontraram um homem que era aleijado dos pés de nascença, nunca tendo andado na sua vida. 9 O homem escutou com atenção a pregação de Paulo que, reparando nele, se deu conta que o aleijado tinha fé para ser curado. 10 Então ordenou-lhe, em alta voz: "Levanta-te! Ergue-te nos teus próprios pés!" O homem deu um salto e começou a andar.

11 Quando a multidão que escutava Paulo viu o que fizera, gritou na sua língua, a licaónia: "Estes homens são deuses em forma humana descidos até nós!" 12 Pensando que Barnabé fosse o deus grego Zeus e que Paulo, por ser o orador principal, fosse Hermes. 13 O sacerdote local do templo de Zeus, à entrada da localidade, trouxe-lhes carroças carregadas de flores e matou bois em sua honra, junto às portas da cidade na presença da multidão.

14 Contudo, quando Barnabé e Paulo viram aquilo, rasgaram desgostosos a roupa que traziam vestida e correram por entre o povo, clamando: 15 "Escutem! Que estão a fazer? Nós somos seres humanos como vocês! Viemos dizer-vos que deixem de adorar essas coisas insensatas e que, em vez disso, devem adorar o Deus vivo e converter-se a ele, que fez o céu, a Terra, o mar e tudo quanto há neles. 16 Nos tempos antigos permitiu que todos os povos seguissem o estilo de vida que melhor lhes parecia; 17 mas nunca deixou de dar provas da sua existência e de quem é realmente, por meio de atos de bondade, tais como mandar-vos chuva, boas colheitas, alimento e alegria de coração." 18 Apesar de lhes falarem nestes termos, Paulo e Barnabé só a custo impediram que o povo lhes oferecesse sacrifícios.

19 Entretanto, chegavam judeus de Antioquia e Icónio que, agitando a multidão, conseguiram que apedrejassem Paulo e o arrastassem para fora da cidade, aparentemente morto.

20 Mas quando os discípulos se reuniram à sua volta, Paulo levantou-se e voltou para a cidade.

No dia seguinte, Paulo partiu com Barnabé para Derbe. 21 Após terem pregado ali o evangelho e feito muitos discípulos, voltaram para Listra, Icónio e Antioquia da Pisídia, 22 onde fortaleceram os discípulos, encorajando-os a perseverar na fé, lembrando-lhes que para entrar no reino de Deus teriam de passar por muitas tribulações. 23 Paulo e Barnabé nomearam também anciãos em todas as igrejas, orando por eles com jejum e entregando-os ao cuidado do Senhor, em quem tinham posto a sua fé. 24 Regressando através da Pisídia para a Panfília, 25 tornaram a pregar em Perge e continuaram para Atália.

26 Finalmente, voltaram por mar para Antioquia da Síria, onde tinham começado a viagem e onde tinham sido entregues a Deus para realizarem a obra agora completada. 27 Quando chegaram, reuniram a igreja, a quem relataram a viagem e como Deus abrira também a porta da fé aos gentios. 28 E ficaram com os discípulos em Antioquia durante muito tempo.

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. 3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. 5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, 6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: 7 And there they preached the gospel.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: 9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, 10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. 11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. 12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. 13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. 14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, 15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: 16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. 18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. 20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. 23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. 24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia: 26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. 28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.
