1 Naquele dia, o Senhor tomará a sua terrível e aguda espada para castigar o monstro marinho*27.1 Em hebraico, leviatan. Criatura de grandes dimensões, de identificação incerta, que tem sido caracterizada como dragão, serpente marinha ou polvo gigante. Neste caso, poderá querer referir-se, de forma espiritual, a Satanás, tendo em conta a comparação com a serpente no Jardim do Éden., a veloz serpente, e matará esse tortuoso dragão do mar.

2 No dia da libertação de Israel será cantado este hino:

"Israel é a minha vinha;

3 eu, o Senhor, cuidarei dela para que dê bom fruto;

cada dia a regarei;

dia e noite vigiarei para a guardar dos seus inimigos.

4 A minha ira contra Israel já passou.

Se encontrar espinhos e sarças perturbando-a,

hei de queimá-los.

5 A menos que esses meus inimigos se rendam

e peçam a paz e a minha proteção."

6 Virá o tempo em que Jacob criará raízes, crescerá, desabrochará, florescerá e encherá a terra com os seus frutos!

7 Terá Deus castigado Israel tanto como os seus inimigos? 8 Não! Porque os seus inimigos foram literalmente devastados, mas Israel foi punido apenas por algum tempo e exilado para longe da sua terra como se tivesse sido soprado por um vento tempestuoso do leste. 9 E porque fez Deus isso? Foi para tirar os seus pecados, para o despojar de todos os seus ídolos, de todos os seus altares de idolatria; altares onde nunca mais se adorará, postes ídolos de Achera e altares de incenso que não ficarão mais de pé. 10 As suas cidades fortes, rodeadas de muralhas, ficarão vazias e silenciosas, as casas abandonadas e as ervas crescerão nas ruas, porque não serão pisadas; haverá bezerros pastando, por toda a parte, comendo os seus ramos e rebentos.

11 O meu povo é como os ramos quebrados e secos duma árvore que servem apenas para arder sob uma panela de comida. São uma nação de loucos, um povo insensato e sem entendimento, porque se desviaram de Deus. Por isso, aquele que os criou não terá misericórdia deles, nem lhes mostrará piedade.

12 Contudo, naquele dia o Senhor os juntará, um a um, colhendo-os como plantas selecionadas dum campo cujos limites são o rio Eufrates e as fronteiras do Egito. 13 Nesse dia, ouvir-se-á tocar a grande trombeta e muitos que estavam já destinados a morrer no meio dos seus inimigos, na Assíria e no Egito, serão salvos e trazidos para Jerusalém, para adorarem o Senhor no monte santo.

7 Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?*27.7 as…: Heb. according to the stroke of 8 In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.*27.8 it shooteth…: or, thou sendest it forth*27.8 he…: or, when he removeth it with 9 By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.*27.9 images: or, sun images 10 Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof. 11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.

12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
