1 Esta é a lista dos reis da margem oriental do rio Jordão, cujas cidades foram destruídas pelos israelitas; uma área que ia desde o vale do rio Arnom até ao monte Hermon, incluindo as cidades do deserto oriental.

2 Um deles era o rei Siom dos amorreus, que vivia em Hesbom. O seu reino cobria o território que tinha por limite, dum lado Aroer, mesmo na extremidade do vale de Arnom, e a meio da depressão cavada pelo rio Arnom, e do outro lado o rio Jaboque até metade de Gileade, que servia de fronteira com os amonitas. 3 Portanto, inclui desde a planície até ao mar da Galileia, do lado oriental, até ao mar da planície, o mar Salgado, estendendo-se em direção a Bete-Jesimote, a sul, até às encostas do monte Pisga.

4 Outro era o rei Ogue de Basã, o último dos refaítas, que vivia em Astarote e Edrei. 5 Era ele quem governava aquele território que se estendia do monte Hermon a norte, até Salca no monte Basã, a oriente; a ocidente ia até aos limites dos reinos de Gesur e Maacá. O seu reino cobria também uma área a sul, que incluía a metade norte de Gileade, onde a fronteira tocava os limites do reino de Siom rei de Hesbom. 6 Moisés e o povo de Israel tinham destruído esses povos e a terra tinha sido dada à tribo de Rúben, à tribo de Gad e à meia tribo de Manassés.

Os povos que lá viviam eram os hititas, os amorreus, os cananeus, os perizeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.)
