2 "Hoje a minha queixa será feita com amargura;

estou a ser castigado duramente, apesar dos meus gemidos.

3 Oh! Se eu soubesse onde encontrar Deus!

Se pudesse subir até ao seu trono e ali conversar com ele!

4 Haveria de expor-lhe os argumentos que tenho a apresentar.

5 Ouviria a sua resposta,

compreendendo o que pretende.

6 Estou convencido de que não iria esmagar-me

com a sua superioridade e grandeza.

7 Ouvir-me-ia, antes, com simpatia.

As pessoas honestas e retas podem tratar com ele,

tendo a certeza de que nele encontrarão sempre um perfeito juiz.

8 No entanto, se o busco a oriente, lá ele não está;

se me volto para o ocidente, não o descubro.

9 Busco-o nas bandas do norte e não está;

procuro-o no sul, mas também não consigo encontrá-lo.

10 No entanto, ele conhece cada detalhe do que me acontece

e, quando me tiver examinado,

há de declarar-me completamente inocente;

tão puro como ouro maciço.

11 Tenho trilhado os caminhos de Deus,

seguido as suas pisadas, sem me desviar delas.

12 Não tenho rejeitado os seus mandamentos, antes desfruto deles,

mais do que da própria comida diária.

13 Contudo, a sua ideia a meu respeito permanece a mesma;

quem poderá mudar os seus propósitos?

Tudo aquilo que quer fazer ele faz.

14 Por isso, fará comigo tudo o que planeou

e ainda muitas outras coisas que tem em vista.

15 Não admira, pois, que me perturbe tanto na sua presença;

quando penso nisso, o terror assalta-me.

16 Deus deu-me um coração fraquinho;

ele, o Todo-Poderoso, me aterrorizou.

17 Porque há trevas à minha volta;

trevas espessas, impenetráveis, escuridão completa.

No; but he would put strength in me. 7 There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. 14 For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. 15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. 16 For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me: 17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.
