2 "Permites-me uma palavra?

Quem é que poderia ser impedido de falar?

3 É verdade que tu ensinaste a muitos

e deste força às mãos enfraquecidas.

4 Encorajaste aqueles que estavam fracos, desfalecendo,

ou se encontravam prostrados e caídos no desespero.

5 No entanto, agora, quando é sobre ti que a desgraça se abate,

estás tu em baixo.

6 Será que não está a tua confiança alicerçada no temor a Deus

e a tua esperança no teu comportamento irrepreensível?

7 Para e pensa um pouco!

Já alguma vez viste alguém que,

sendo verdadeiramente reto e inocente,

tivesse sofrido destruição?

8 A experiência, ela própria ensina

que são aqueles que semeiam o pecado e a opressão

que colhem essas mesmas coisas.

9 Pelo sopro de Deus são destruídos;

pelo vento de sua ira são consumidos.

10 Como leões rugem, lançam os seus rugidos selvagens;

mas os seus dentes, como de leões ferozes, serão partidos.

11 Os leões velhos morrerão por falta de presa

e os filhotes das leoas andarão errantes.

12 Esta verdade foi-me comunicada em segredo,

como que soprada aos ouvidos.

13 Veio-me de noite, numa visão,

enquanto outros dormiam.

14 De repente, o terror estarreceu-me;

tremia todo com pavor.

15 Um espírito passava na minha frente

e arrepiaram-se-me os cabelos.

16 Um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos,

mas não consegui identificá-lo.

Era como uma imagem diante de mim, em silêncio;

mas depois ouvi uma voz:

17 ‘Será um simples ser humano mais justo que Deus,

mais puro que o seu Criador?

18 Nem nos seus servos confia;

os seus próprios mensageiros podem enganar-se.

19 Quanto menos nos seres humanos, feitos de terra,

que se podem esmagar como simples traças!

20 Estão com vida durante a manhã

e pela tardinha podem encontrar-se mortos,

desaparecendo para sempre, sem que alguém se aperceba!

21 Se o fio da sua vida se quebra,

morrem sem atingir a sabedoria!’

7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. 9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.*4.9 by the breath…: that is, by his anger 10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.
