1 Lista dos sacerdotes que acompanharam Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e Josué, o sumo sacerdote:

Estes eram os chefes dos sacerdotes e dos seus familiares, no tempo de Josué, o sumo sacerdote.

8 Os levitas que foram com eles eram Jesua, Binuí, Cadmiel, Serebias, Judá e Matanias; este último tinha o encargo de dirigir os cânticos de louvor juntamente com os seus irmãos. 9 Baquebuquias e Uni, seus irmãos de clã, assistiam-no nesse serviço.

10 Josué foi pai de Joiaquim;

Joiaquim foi pai de Eliasibe;

Eliasibe foi pai de Joiada;

11 Joiada foi pai de Jónatas;

Jónatas foi pai de Jadua.

12 A seguir, indicam-se os chefes de clã dos sacerdotes que serviram sob o sumo sacerdote Joiaquim:

Meraías, líder do clã de Seraías;

Hananias, líder do clã de Jeremias;

13 Mesulão, líder do clã de Esdras;

Jeoanã, líder do clã de Amarias;

14 Jónatas, líder do clã de Maluque;

José, líder do clã de Sebanias;

15 Adna, líder do clã de Harim;

Helcai, líder do clã de Meraiote;

16 Zacarias, líder do clã de Ido;

Mesulão, líder do clã de Ginetom;

17 Zicri, líder do clã de Abias;

Piltai, líder dos clãs de Miniamim e Moadias;

18 Samua líder do clã de Bilga;

Jeónatas, líder do clã de Semaías;

19 Matenai, líder do clã de Joiaribe;

Uzi, líder do clã de Jedaías;

20 Calai, líder do clã de Salai;

Eber, líder do clã de Amoque;

21 Hasabias, líder do clã de Hilquias;

Netanel, líder do clã de Jedaías.

22 Um relato genealógico dos cabeças de clãs dos sacerdotes e levitas foi compilado durante o reinado de Dario da Pérsia, nos dias de Eliasibe, Joiada, Joanã e Jadua, todos eles levitas. 23 No Livro das Crónicas os nomes dos levitas foram inscritos até aos dias de Joanã, filho de Eliasibe. 24 Eram estes os chefes dos levitas nessa altura: Hasabias, Serebias e Jesua, filho de Cadmiel. Os seus irmãos de clã auxiliavam-nos durante as cerimónias de louvor e agradecimento, como fora ordenado por David, o homem de Deus.

25 Os porteiros que organizavam os locais de recolha das coletas nas entradas eram: Matanias, Baquebuquias, Obadias, Mesulão, Talmom e Acube.

26 Estes eram os homens ativos durante o tempo de Joiaquim, filho de Josué, filho de Josadaque, e no tempo em que Neemias era governador e Esdras era sacerdote e escriba.

27 Durante a consagração da nova muralha de Jerusalém, os levitas de toda a terra vieram a Jerusalém para assistir às cerimónias e tomar parte nessa festa com alegria e com os seus louvores, acompanhados de címbalos, liras e harpas. 28 Os membros do coro também vieram a Jerusalém das localidades vizinhas e das aldeias dos netofatitas. 29 Vieram igualmente de Bete-Gilgal, da área de Geba e de Azmavete, porque os cantores tinham construído as suas próprias aldeias nos subúrbios de Jerusalém. 30 Os sacerdotes e os levitas consagraram-se primeiro a si mesmos; depois consagraram o povo, as portas e a muralha.

31 Conduzi os chefes judeus e dois coros ao cimo da muralha e dividi-os em duas longas colunas que caminhavam em direções opostas, louvando com gratidão. O grupo que ia para a direita, em direção à porta do Monturo, 32 era formado por metade dos chefes de Judá e incluía Hosaías, 33 Azarias, Esdras, Mesulão, 34 Judá, Benjamim, Semaías e Jeremias. 35 Os sacerdotes que tocavam as cornetas eram Zacarias, filho de Jónatas, cuja ascendência era Semaías, Matanias, Micaías, Zacur e Asafe; 36 e ainda Semaías, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Netanel, Judá e Hanani, que usavam os instrumentos de música do rei David; o escriba Esdras encabeçava o cortejo. 37 Quando chegaram à porta da Fonte, continuaram em frente e subiram as escadas da velha Cidade de David; depois seguiram até à porta da Água, a oriente.

38 O outro grupo, do qual eu próprio fazia parte, foi no outro sentido ao encontro do primeiro; deslocou-se a partir da torre dos Fornos até ao muro Largo; 39 depois, desde a porta de Efraim até à porta Velha; passámos a porta do Peixe e a torre de Hananel e prosseguimos até à porta da Torre dos Cem; avançámos até à porta das Ovelhas e parámos à porta da Prisão.

40,41 Depois, os dois coros dirigiram-se para o templo com metade dos chefes do povo, que me acompanhavam; iam comigo os sacerdotes, a tocar as cornetas: Eliaquim, Maaseias, Miniamim, Micaías, Elioenai, Zacarias e Hananias; 42 também os cantores Maaseias, Semaías, Eleazar, Uzi, Jeoanã, Malquias, Elão e Ezer; os coros cantaram forte e claramente, sob a direção de Izraías.

43 Muitos sacrifícios foram oferecidos nessa alegre jornada, porque Deus nos tinha dado razões de grande regozijo. As mulheres e as crianças também se alegravam e o ruído dessa grande manifestação ouvia-se até muito longe!

44 Nesse dia, foram designados os homens que ficaram encarregados dos cofres, das ofertas alçadas, dos dízimos, dos primeiros frutos colhidos e da recolha destes donativos junto dos agricultores, conforme tinha sido ordenado na Lei de Moisés. Estas ofertas eram destinadas aos sacerdotes e levitas, como expressão do apreço que o povo de Judá tinha pelo serviço que executavam. 45 Também o serviço dos cantores e dos porteiros era tido em muita consideração; estes assistiam os outros homens no culto a Deus e no cumprimento das cerimónias de purificação, como requerido nas leis de David e do seu filho Salomão. 46 Foi nos dias de David e de Asafe que se iniciou o costume dos diretores que conduziam o coro com hinos de louvor e gratidão a Deus. 47 Agora, nos dias de Zorobabel e de Neemias, o povo trazia um fornecimento diário de comida para os membros do coro, porteiros e levitas. Estes últimos, por sua vez, davam aos sacerdotes, descendentes de Aarão, a parte que lhes pertencia.

22 The Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were recorded chief of the fathers: also the priests, to the reign of Darius the Persian. 23 The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles, even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib. 24 And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward. 25 Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were porters keeping the ward at the thresholds of the gates.*12.25 thresholds: or, treasuries, or, assemblies 26 These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.

27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. 28 And the sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain country round about Jerusalem, and from the villages of Netophathi; 29 Also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had builded them villages round about Jerusalem. 30 And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall. 31 Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate: 32 And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah, 33 And Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam, 34 Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, 35 And certain of the priests’ sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph: 36 And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them. 37 And at the fountain gate, which was over against them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall, above the house of David, even unto the water gate eastward. 38 And the other company of them that gave thanks went over against them, and I after them, and the half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even unto the broad wall; 39 And from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even unto the sheep gate: and they stood still in the prison gate. 40 So stood the two companies of them that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me: 41 And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; 42 And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer.
