1 Nós podemos fazer os nossos próprios planos,

mas o Senhor tem a última palavra.

2 Ao homem parece-lhe bom tudo o que faz,

mas o Senhor é quem julga as verdadeiras motivações.

3 Entrega tudo o que fazes ao Senhor,

e os teus planos irão por diante.

4 Tudo o que o Senhor fez tem um objetivo;

até mesmo o perverso, para o dia do castigo.

5 Deus abomina o orgulho;

por muito que se faça, o orgulho não escapará ao castigo.

6 A culpa é perdoada pela misericórdia e pela verdade;

e é pelo temor ao Senhor que o ser humano se pode resguardar do mal.

7 Quando alguém procura agradar ao Senhor,

Deus faz com que até os seus piores inimigos tenham paz com essa pessoa.

8 Melhor é ter pouco, mas vivendo uma vida reta,

do que ter uma grande fortuna ganha por meios desonestos.

9 Ao elaborarmos os nossos planos,

deveríamos sempre contar com a intervenção do Senhor.

10 O rei fala com grande autoridade;

contudo, a sua boca não deve jamais trair a justiça.

11 O Senhor exige as balanças certas;

e decide os pesos que se devem utilizar.

12 Um chefe de estado tem horror à iniquidade;

o seu direito de governar só pode ter como fundamento a justiça.

13 Um povo que fala e respeita a verdade

e que ama a justiça faz felizes os seus governantes.

14 A ira do rei é como alguém que anuncia a morte;

o sábio encontrará a forma de a abrandar.

15 Quando o rosto do rei exprime alegria, isso é vida;

a sua benevolência é como uma nuvem de chuva serôdia.

16 É melhor ter sabedoria do que ouro;

vale mais o entendimento do que prata.

17 O caminho dos justos distingue-se, essencialmente, por se desviar do mal;

quem segue por ele está em segurança.

18 Ao orgulho segue-se a ruína;

a arrogância vem antes da queda.

19 É preferível estar ao lado dos humildes e dos simples,

a partilhar privilégios com gente altiva.

20 Deus abençoa os que obedecem consciente e refletidamente à sua palavra;

os que confiam no Senhor serão felizes.

21 O indivíduo sábio será conhecido pelo seu bom senso;

quem ensina será mais persuasivo se empregar palavras adequadas.

22 A sabedoria é fonte de vida para os que a possuem;

o castigo dos loucos é a sua própria loucura.

23 Do íntimo de quem tem entendimento saem palavras inteligentes,

capazes de persuadir os outros.

24 As palavras amáveis e delicadas são como o mel;

fazem bem à alma, dão saúde à vida.

25 Há caminhos que ao homem parecem direitos e seguros,

mas no final deles encontra-se a morte.

26 A fome é boa para levar o homem a trabalhar,

a fim de satisfazer a sua necessidade.

27 O malfeitor provoca o mal;

aquilo que diz é como um fogo.

28 As pessoas perversas estão sempre a levantar contendas;

o intriguista é capaz de separar os melhores amigos.

29 As pessoas violentas costumam aliciar outros,

para os levar por caminhos condenáveis.

30 Fecham os olhos, imaginando cuidadosamente o que podem tramar;

de lábios cerrados, levam os seus planos perversos por diante.

31 Os cabelos brancos representam dignidade;

eles veem-se nos que caminham na justiça.

32 Uma pessoa que é paciente vale mais do que alguém muito corajoso;

é melhor saber dominar-se do que conquistar uma cidade.

33 As pessoas lançam sortes para muitas decisões,

mas no fim é sempre do Senhor que dependem as situações.
