se o fizer, virá a ter direito a uma parte da herança desses filhos.

3 O ouro e a prata são purificados pelo fogo,

mas é só o Senhor quem purifica os corações.

4 Os pecadores procuram a companhia dos que falam e fazem como eles;

todo o mentiroso escuta a língua maligna.

5 Desprezar os pobres é insultar a Deus que criou todos os homens;

não ficará sem castigo aquele que se alegra com a desgraça alheia.

6 Para os avós, os netos são a sua coroa de glória,

tal como a coroa dos filhos são os pais.

7 Normalmente, não se espera ouvir coisas sensatas da boca dum louco;

dum governante também não contamos que falte à verdade.

8 Os presentes funcionam, muitas vezes, como uma chave mágica,

alcançando muito para quem os utiliza.

9 A amizade faz esquecer muita coisa mal feita;

os que andam sempre a discutir são capazes de separar os melhores amigos.

10 A repreensão dada a uma pessoa sensata é mais eficaz

do que cem açoites aplicados a um insensato.

11 Os perversos anseiam a rebeldia;

por isso, não deixarão de ter alguém que os castigue severamente.

haverá sempre maldição na sua casa.

15 O Senhor repudia tanto os que fecham os olhos às culpas dos maus

como os que condenam os justos.

16 De que serve ao insensato ter dinheiro para comprar sabedoria,

se não tem entendimento?

17 Um verdadeiro amigo é sempre leal

e é na adversidade que se forma um irmão.

18 É prova de pouco juízo ficar por fiador doutra pessoa

e responsabilizar-se pelas suas dívidas.

19 Quem ama a transgressão, ama o pecado;

quem se exalta, procura a ruína.

20 O homem de coração perverso nunca será feliz;

o de língua mentirosa logo cai em desgraça.

21 Triste coisa é ser-se pai dum filho insensato;

o pai de um louco não pode ter alegria.

22 Um coração alegre tem o mesmo efeito dum bom remédio,

mas um espírito abatido torna todo o corpo doente.

para desviar o curso da justiça.

25 Um filho insensato é um desgosto para o seu pai;

é a amargura para quem o deu à luz.

26 É extremamente mau, quando os governantes castigam os justos,

e punem os que agem com honestidade.

27 As pessoas entendidas, que têm conhecimento da vida,

sabem quando devem calar-se.

28 Até o tolo é capaz de passar por esperto, quando sabe ficar quieto;

quando cala a boca, até pode ser tomado por inteligente.
