1 Ó minha alma, louva o Senhor!

Senhor, meu Deus, como tu és grandioso!

Estás revestido de honra e majestade.

2 A luz te rodeia como um manto sublime;

como imponente reposteiro, estendeste os céus!

3 Escavaste na superfície da Terra

abismos que encheste com os oceanos;

fazes-te transportar pelas nuvens.

Voas nas asas do vento;

4 fazes dos teus mensageiros ventos

e os seus ministros eficazes como fogo.

5 És tu quem sustenta a Terra,

para que não se desintegre no espaço.

6 Envolveste a Terra com os oceanos

e até as altas montanhas ficaram submersas.

7 Falaste e, ao som da tua voz,

as águas juntaram-se e formaram os oceanos.

8 Ergueram-se as altas cordilheiras, cavaram-se os vales;

tudo à medida da tua vontade.

9 Impuseste um limite aos mares,

de forma a não mais cobrirem a Terra.

10 Deus fez rebentar nascentes nos vales

que percorrem a terra, entre os montes,

11 dando de beber a todos os animais.

Dessa água bebem todos os animais do campo;

até os burros selvagens matam nela a sua sede.

12 Junto a rios e ribeiros fazem as aves os seus ninhos,

cantando entre a ramagem das árvores.

13 É ele que, lá do alto, rega as montanhas,

e faz com que a Terra se encha de fruto.

14 Faz crescer a erva que alimenta os animais;

a vegetação existe para benefício da humanidade,

que tira da terra grande parte do seu sustento.

15 Também o vinho, que lhe alegra o coração,

o azeite que faz brilhar a pele do rosto,

e ainda o pão para lhe renovar as forças.

16 Foi o Senhor que plantou os grandiosos,

altíssimos e viçosos cedros do Líbano.

17 Neles se aninham os mais variados pássaros;

a cegonha é nos ciprestes que se abriga.

18 No alto das montanhas refugiam-se as cabras-monteses

e nem mesmo as rochas são inúteis,

porque nelas se abrigam os damões-do-cabo*104.18 Damão-do-cabo é um pequeno animal roedor, da ordem Hyracoidea, que é muito comum em África e no sudoeste asiático..

19 Deus estabeleceu que a Lua marcasse os tempos

e que o Sol conhecesse o seu ocaso.

20 Ordenou a sucessão das noites;

aproveitando a sua escuridão,

os animais das matas saem das suas tocas.

21 Os filhotes dos leões rugem pedindo comida

e buscam de Deus o seu alimento.

22 Assim que o Sol nasce de novo,

esgueiram-se de volta para os seus covis.

23 É então a altura do homem sair para o trabalho,

até que novamente caia a noite.

24 Senhor, como é tão variada a tua criação!

Com que sabedoria tu fizeste todas as coisas!

A Terra está cheia daquilo que tu criaste!

25 Basta olhar para esse vasto oceano,

onde vive uma infinidade de criaturas maravilhosas,

dos mais diversos tamanhos!

26 Esses mares imensos são também cruzados

por toda a espécie de navios;

neles pode até brincar o monstro marinho!*104.26 Em hebraico, leviatan. Criatura de grandes dimensões, de identificação incerta, que tem sido caracterizada como dragão, serpente marinha ou polvo gigante.

27 Cada um desses seres vivos depende de ti,

para o seu sustento diário.

28 Tu o forneces e eles só têm de colher;

abres a tua mão e satisfazem-se com a tua generosidade.

29 Basta que te afastes por algum tempo,

para que fiquem perdidos.

Se param de respirar, morrem;

ficam reduzidos ao pó da terra.

30 Pelo teu Espírito, que envias à Terra,

nasce uma vida nova,

e assim renovas a tua criação.

31 Seja a glória do Senhor para sempre!

Como deve alegrar-se nas suas próprias obras!

32 A Terra treme sob o seu olhar;

tocando Deus nas montanhas, logo fumegam!

33 Cantarei ao Senhor enquanto eu viver;

cantarei louvores ao meu Deus até ao fim da vida!

34 Seja-lhe agradável a minha meditação!

Ele é a fonte de toda a minha alegria.

35 O meu desejo é que, um dia, todos os pecadores

venham a desaparecer da face da Terra

e que não mais exista gente que faça o mal!

14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

16 The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;

19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.

22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.

23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

24 O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.

26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.*104.26 made: Heb. formed

27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.

28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.
