1 Senhor, livra-me dos homens perversos;

guarda-me de gente violenta!

2 Só pensam o mal no seu íntimo;

estão constantemente a planear agressões.

3 O que dizem fere como a picada da serpente;

só há veneno de víbora nos seus lábios. (Pausa)

4 Mantém-me fora do alcance das suas mãos;

protege-me da violência dos maus.

5 Esses indivíduos, cheios de soberba,

armaram-me ciladas para me fazerem cair;

puseram-me armadilhas no caminho,

laços para me tolherem os movimentos. (Pausa)

6 Eu disse ao Senhor: "Tu és o meu Deus!"

Ouve as minhas súplicas, ó Senhor!

7 Ó Senhor Deus, tu és a força que me salva;

tu proteges a minha cabeça durante a batalha.

8 Não deixes que esses que te repudiam

vejam os seus desejos satisfeitos,

vejam cumpridos os seus maus propósitos

e o seu orgulho se exalte ainda mais. (Pausa)

9 Esses que andam à minha volta

sejam destruídos pelo mesmo mal que planeavam!

10 Que brasas vivas caiam sobre as suas cabeças;

que sejam lançados em abismos profundos

donde não possam mais sair!

11 Não deixes os mentirosos prosperar na vida;

possa a desgraça perseguir os homens violentos.

12 Eu sei que o Senhor apoia a causa dos oprimidos

e o direito dos pobres.

13 Por isso, os retos louvarão o teu nome

e viverão na tua presença.

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

6 I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.*140.8 lest…: or, let them not be exalted

9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.*140.11 an…: or, an evil speaker (Heb. a man of tongue), a wicked man of violence, be established in the earth: let him be hunted to his overthrow

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
