1 Ó Senhor, nosso Deus, como é admirável a grandeza

que o teu nome tem sobre toda a Terra!

Estabeleceste o teu esplendor acima dos céus.

2 Da boca dos pequenos e das criancinhas de peito,

levantaste uma fortaleza, por causa dos teus inimigos,

para fazer calar todo aquele que se opõe a ti.

3 Quando de noite contemplo os céus

e vejo a obra dos teus dedos,

a Lua e as estrelas que fizeste, pergunto:

4 Que é o homem,

para que te preocupes com ele?

E quem é o filho do homem,

para que te lembres dele?

5 Apesar disso, fizeste-o um pouco menor do que Deus*8.5 A partir da antiga tradução grega, a Septuaginta, desenvolveu-se uma tradição que traduz por anjos, como podemos ver em Hb 2.7.,

e coroaste-o de honra e glória.

6 Deste-lhe domínio sobre aquilo que criaste.

Puseste tudo sob os seus pés:

7 ovelhas, bois, animais selvagens;

8 pássaros, peixes e tudo o que tem vida nos mares.

9 Ó Senhor, nosso Deus,

como é admirável a grandeza

que o teu nome tem sobre toda a Terra!

1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.*8.2 ordained: Heb. founded

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
