Oração de David. Entoada ao Senhor sobre o benjamita Cuxe.

1 Senhor, meu Deus, em ti me refugio;

salva-me de todos os que me perseguem e livra-me.

2 Não permitas que se lancem sobre mim como leões,

despedaçando-me, sem que ninguém possa livrar-me.

3 Seria diferente, Senhor meu Deus,

se eu estivesse a fazer coisas más.

4 Se estivesse a pagar com maldade a quem me faz bem,

ou a atacar injustamente aqueles de quem não gosto.

5 Então compreenderia que deixasses os meus inimigos perseguir-me,

esmagando-me no chão,

pisando a minha vida no pó da terra! (Pausa)

6 Mas, Senhor, levanta-te com cólera,

contra a fúria dos que me oprimem!

Vigia, para aplicares a meu favor a justiça que ordenaste!

7 Reúne os povos diante de ti;

senta-te no alto, no teu trono, julgando os seus pecados.

8 A mim, justifica-me publicamente,

tornando clara a minha honestidade e inocência.

9 Põe fim a toda a maldade dos ímpios,

e abençoa todos os que são verdadeiramente justos.

Pois tu, Deus justo, investigas bem fundo o coração dos homens

e examinas todas as suas intenções e pensamentos.

10 Deus é o meu escudo;

ele salva aqueles que têm um coração íntegro.

11 Deus é um juiz perfeitamente justo;

os seus severos avisos repetem-se, dia após dia.

12 Se o homem não se arrepender, afiará a sua espada;

o seu arco está já retesado e apontado, pronto a disparar.

13 Ele o armou com flechas mortais e inflamadas.

14 O homem mau concebe uma perversa combinação;

faz nascer aflições e produz mentiras.

15 Contudo, virá a cair na funda cova

que ele próprio fez, como armadilha.

16 As obras más e a violência que planeou para os outros

recairão sobre si mesmo.

17 Eu estou tão grato ao Senhor, porque ele é justo!

Cantarei louvores ao Senhor,

porque o seu nome está acima de tudo e de todos!

Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.

1 O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:*7.1 words: or, business

2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.*7.2 none…: Heb. not a deliverer

3 O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

7 So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

8 The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.*7.11 judgeth…: or, is a righteous judge

12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
