Cântico de peregrinação.

1 Lembra-te, Senhor,

de quando David estava tão aflito.

2 Quando te fez aquela solene promessa,

a ti, o Poderoso Senhor de Jacob, dizendo:

3 "De maneira nenhuma poderei vir para casa,

descansar e dormir em paz.

4 Não fecharei os meus olhos para dormir;

as minhas pálpebras não terão repouso.

5 Não, enquanto não construir uma casa

onde o Poderoso Senhor de Jacob seja adorado."

6 A arca santa do Senhor já andou por Efrata

e viemos encontrá-la no campo de Jaar.

7 Entremos agora no seu santo templo

e adoremos diante dos seus pés!

8 Levanta-te, Senhor, e entra no teu templo,

lugar do teu repouso, juntamente com a arca,

que é a expressão do teu poder.

9 Os sacerdotes hão de vestir-se de justiça

e todo o teu povo cantará de alegria.

10 Por amor de David, que te serve,

não deixes de responder ao teu ungido!

11 O Senhor fez uma promessa a David e não falharia:

"Estabelecerei um dos teus descendentes

e ele se sentará no trono, depois de ti.

12 Se os teus descendentes se mantiverem fiéis

à aliança que fiz com o povo de Israel,

e fiéis aos mandamentos que virão a aprender,

também ocuparão o trono de Israel, para sempre."

13 Tu, Senhor, escolheste Sião

para ser o local da tua habitação:

14 "É aqui, o lugar do meu descanso para sempre;

este é o meu desejo!

15 Tornarei esta cidade próspera;

fartarei de pão os pobres que lá vivam.

16 Vestirei de salvação os sacerdotes

e os fiéis exaltarão de júbilo.

17 O poder de David aumentará

e prepararei uma lâmpada para o meu ungido.

18 Os seus inimigos ficarão cobertos de vergonha.

David será um rei glorioso!"

A Song of degrees.

1 LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:

2 How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;

4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,

5 Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.*132.5 an habitation: Heb. habitations

6 Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.

7 We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.

8 Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.

10 For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.

11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.*132.11 body: Heb. belly

12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.*132.15 abundantly: or, surely

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.*132.17 lamp: or, candle

18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
