Poema didático de Etã, o ezraíta.

1 Cantarei constantemente a bondade do Senhor;

a minha boca anunciará às gerações vindouras

como te manténs fiel às tuas promessas.

2 Direi que a tua bondade é eterna;

confirmaste a tua fidelidade até no céu.

3 Disse o Senhor:

"Fiz uma aliança solene com David,

aquele que eu próprio escolhi:

4 A tua dinastia será estabelecida para sempre

e firmarei o teu trono eternamente." (Pausa)

5 Os céus te louvarão pelas tuas maravilhas, ó Senhor;

milhares de anjos te darão louvores,

por seres fiel à tua palavra.

6 Quem, em todo o universo,

se pode comparar com o Senhor?

Qual dos anjos mais poderosos

é semelhante a Deus?

7 Ele é extremamente admirado na assembleia dos anjos;

é grandemente reverenciado por todos os que o cercam.

8 Ó Senhor, Deus dos exércitos,

quem é tão forte como tu?

A fidelidade faz parte do teu próprio carácter.

9 Tu dominas a força do mar;

acalmas as vagas que se levantam sob a violência das tempestades.

10 Abateste o altivo Raab*89.10 Nos relatos babilónicos da criação do mundo, o monstro marinho (Raab) personificava o oceano ou o caos, vencido pelo deus criador. como se fosse ferido de morte;

dispersaste os inimigos com o teu poderoso e forte braço.

11 Pertencem-te os céus e a Terra;

criaste o universo com tudo o que nele existe.

12 Toda a Terra, de norte a sul, foi criada pelas tuas mãos;

os montes Tabor e Hermon alegram-se,

por serem uma obra assinada pelo teu nome.

13 O teu braço é poderoso! Forte é a tua mão!

A sua força atua eficazmente até na glória do céu!

14 A justiça e a retidão são as bases do teu trono;

a misericórdia e a verdade vão à tua frente.

15 Feliz é o povo que conhece e que responde

ao som festivo da trombeta e que toca para te celebrar!

Esses andarão na luz da tua presença.

16 Alegrar-se-ão o dia inteiro no prestígio

que tem o teu nome e a tua justiça.

17 Tu és o esplendor da sua força:

o nosso poder está fundamentado no teu favor.

18 Porque o nosso rei, que é para nós como um escudo, pertence ao Senhor;

o rei pertence ao Santo de Israel.

19 Numa visão, falaste aos teus servos fiéis:

"Prestei ajuda a alguém que é um herói e cheio de vontade,

que vem do meio do povo.

20 É David quem me servirá!

Nomeei-o e qualifiquei-o através do santo óleo

que recebeu de mim.

21 Firmá-lo-ei e o fortalecerei com o meu forte braço.

22 O inimigo nunca lhe passará por cima;

os filhos da maldade não o afligirão.

23 Derrubarei os seus inimigos na sua frente;

destruirei os que o aborrecem.

24 Acompanhá-lo-ei com a minha bondade;

terá sempre a garantia da minha fidelidade.

25 O seu poder eu estenderei sobre os mares;

dominará desde os rios até ao mar.

26 Invocar-me-á, dizendo:

‘És o meu Pai, o meu Deus,

a rocha da minha salvação.’

27 Também, por isso, o tratarei com a honra

que se dá a um filho mais velho;

farei dele o mais poderoso dos reis da Terra.

28 Manterei para sempre a minha bondade para com ele;

a aliança de amor que faço com ele nunca será anulada.

29 Terá sempre um herdeiro e o seu trono não terá fim;

será como os dias do céu!

30 Mas, se os seus filhos deixarem a minha Lei,

e não seguirem os meus mandamentos,

31 se desprezarem os meus estatutos,

interpretando-os segundo os seus interesses,

32 então virei junto deles para os castigar,

para punir a sua maldade.

33 Contudo, não retirarei dele a minha bondade,

nem deixarei de cumprir a minha promessa.

34 Não anularei a minha aliança com ele,

nem retirarei uma só palavra que saiu dos meus lábios.

35 Porque o jurei a David,

como Deus santo que não pode mentir.

36 A sua descendência durará para sempre

e o seu trono terá a duração do próprio Sol.

37 Será como a Lua que permanece sólida,

como testemunho no céu da minha fidelidade." (Pausa)

38 No entanto, tu rejeitaste e aborreceste o teu ungido;

indignaste-te contra ele.

39 Não vês com bons olhos a aliança que fizeste com ele;

lançaste a sua coroa no pó da terra.

40 Derribaste as muralhas;

deixaste em ruínas as fortificações que o defendiam.

41 Todos os que passam por ali o despojam;

os seus vizinhos o desprezam.

42 Deste força aos seus inimigos,

os quais têm tido fortes razões para se regozijarem.

43 As suas armas encravaram-se, não prestam;

retiraste-lhe a tua ajuda na batalha.

44 Acabaste com o esplendor que tinha antes;

o seu trono caiu.

45 Envelheceu antes do tempo;

cobriste-o de vergonha. (Pausa)

46 Até quando, Senhor, será assim?

Vais ignorar para sempre o meu apelo?

Deixarás que a tua ira se acenda como um fogo?

47 Lembra-te como são breves os dias da minha vida;

tu não criaste os homens para uma vida inútil e vazia.

48 Também não há ninguém que viva para sempre,

sem conhecer a morte;

que tenha a capacidade de se livrar do poder do mundo dos mortos. (Pausa)

49 Senhor, onde está o amor

que mostraste para com David, antigamente,

e que lhe juraste com a verdade da tua palavra?

50 Lembra-te da vergonha em que se encontra o teu povo;

trago no peito a marca do escárnio de toda essa gente.

51 Gente que tem posto a tua honra de rastos,

pois são teus inimigos, Senhor;

riem-se da vida deste, que tu escolheste e ungiste.

52 Bendito seja o Senhor, para sempre!

3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,

4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?

7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

8 O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?

9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

25 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

41 All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

49 Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;

51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52 Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
