Oração de uma pessoa aflita que na sua fraqueza se dirige ao Senhor.

1 Senhor, peço-te que ouças a minha oração!

Que escutes a minha súplica!

2 Não te afastes de mim nesta hora de aflição!

Presta bem atenção ao clamor que te lanço,

neste dia de angústia, e responde-me depressa.

3 Os dias da minha vida vão-se desfazendo como o fumo;

os meus ossos ardem, no meu corpo, como lenha.

4 Tenho o coração ferido e pisado;

estou como a relva que secou.

Perdi o apetite e a comida só me dá fastio.

5 Sou só pele e osso, devido aos meus forte gemidos;

a minha vida tem sido um constante sofrimento.

6 Sou como a coruja do deserto;

sou como o mocho em lugares desolados.

7 Não consigo dormir e sinto-me só,

como um pássaro solitário num telhado.

8 Os meus inimigos não fazem outra coisa

senão troçar de mim o dia inteiro;

os que me querem mal atormentam-me a alma.

9 O pão sabe-me a cinza;

a minha bebida são as lágrimas que verto.

10 Isto, por causa da tua severidade,

da tua ira contra mim, pois rejeitaste-me;

expulsaste-me da tua presença.

11 A minha vida apaga-se como a sombra da noite que cai;

vou secando como relva pisada e sem água.

12 Contudo, Senhor, tu permaneces o mesmo sempre;

a tua fama atravessa toda a história.

13 Eu sei que virás cheio de compaixão para com Sião;

esta é a hora determinada para teres compaixão e ajudares.

14 Porque o teu povo ama as pedras das suas muralhas

e cada grão de pó das suas ruas.

15 Por isso, todas as nações da Terra

hão de temer reverentemente o teu nome;

todos os governantes se inclinarão diante da tua glória!

16 Pois o Senhor vai reconstruir Sião;

ele há de aparecer gloriosamente.

17 Ele ouvirá as orações dos desamparados;

não se esquecerá deles.

18 Que isto fique escrito para as futuras gerações,

para que aqueles que ainda hão de nascer

possam louvar o Senhor!

19 Porque o Senhor olhou

desde a sua santa habitação, lá dos céus.

20 Prestou atenção aos gemidos dos presos

e decidiu libertar os condenados à morte.

21 Para que o nome do Senhor seja anunciado em Sião

e em Jerusalém, seja louvado;

22 quando as multidões, das nacionalidades mais diversas,

acorrerem para louvar e adorar o Senhor.

23 Ele tirou-me as forças no meio da vida,

encurtou os meus dias.

24 Mas eu clamei: "Meu Deus!

Não me leves a meio do caminho da vida,

tu, que vives eternamente!

25 Foste tu quem fundou a Terra;

fizeste o universo com as tuas mãos.

26 Um dia, estes desaparecerão, mas tu permanecerás.

Todos acabarão, como roupa velha;

tu os mudarás como vestuário que deixa de ser usado.

27 Tu, porém, permaneces sempre o mesmo;

os teus anos não têm fim.

28 Os nossos filhos viverão seguros;

e os seus descendentes florescerão diante da tua presença."

A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD.

1 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee.*102.1 of: or, for

2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.

5 By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.*102.5 skin: or, flesh

6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.

7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.

9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,

10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.

11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.

12 But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.

13 Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.

14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.

15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.

16 When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.

17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.

19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth;

20 To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;*102.20 those…: Heb. the children of death

21 To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

22 When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.*102.23 weakened: Heb. afflicted

24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.

25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:*102.26 endure: Heb. stand

27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.
