Salmo de David. Quando se escondeu numa caverna, fugindo de Saul. Para o diretor do coro. Poema de instrução.

1 Tem piedade de mim, ó Deus!

Tem piedade, porque a minha alma em ti se refugia.

Eu abrigo-me à sombra das tuas asas,

até que passem as calamidades.

2 Clamarei ao Deus altíssimo,

e que tudo faz por mim.

3 Ele enviará lá do alto o seu auxílio,

para me salvar dos que querem devorar-me; (Pausa)

Deus enviará o seu amor e a sua fidelidade.

4 Estou rodeado de leões ferozes,

de gente violenta com dentes mais afiados que punhais,

e cuja língua é uma faca cortante.

5 Ó Deus, engrandece-te acima dos céus!

Que a tua glória brilhe sobre toda a Terra!

6 Puseram uma rede no meu caminho;

a minha alma ficou abatida com temores.

Abriram uma cova para que eu caísse,

mas afinal foram eles que vieram a cair nela. (Pausa)

7 O meu coração está pronto, ó Deus;

não é de surpreender que te cante salmos.

8 Desperta, minha alma!

Que a harpa e a lira comecem a tocar!

Eu mesmo, ao romper do dia, cantarei a Deus.

9 Louvar-te-ei diante dos povos, Senhor;

no meio das nações cantar-te-ei salmos.

10 Pois a tua misericórdia chega aos céus

e a tua fidelidade até às nuvens.

11 Sim, ó Deus, engrandece-te acima dos céus!

Que a tua glória brilhe sobre toda a Terra!

4 My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.

6 They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.
