Salmo de David. Para o diretor do coro.

1 Só em ti, Senhor, me refugio;

jamais me deixes ficar mal perante os meus inimigos.

Livra-me porque és justo.

2 Responde-me depressa;

inclina-te para ouvires a minha súplica.

Sê para mim como um rochedo bem firme,

como uma casa onde esteja em perfeita segurança.

3 Sim, com efeito tu és o meu rochedo,

o lugar forte onde me abrigo.

Por isso, te peço, por causa do prestígio do teu nome,

que me guies e me protejas.

4 Tira-me da rede que os meus inimigos armaram para me apanhar;

só tu és a minha fortaleza.

5 Entrego o meu espírito nas tuas mãos;

tu, que guardas as promessas que fazes, me livraste, ó Senhor.

6 Aborreço aqueles que se entregam ao culto de deuses falsos;

eu, quanto a mim, confio no Senhor.

7 Ficarei radiante de alegria pela tua bondade,

pois tiveste em consideração a minha aflição;

viste bem como a minha alma estava angustiada.

8 Não me entregaste nas mãos do inimigo,

antes me deste perfeita liberdade de movimentos.

9 Tem misericórdia de mim, Senhor,

porque me sinto atribulado;

os meus olhos já estão vermelhos de tanto choro.

10 A minha alma e o meu corpo estão cansados de tanta tristeza.

Vou-me consumindo de abatimento;

esgotam-se os meus anos em aflição.

Os meus pecados também me têm tirado a força;

os meus ossos consomem-se pela vergonha e pela tristeza.

11 Os meus inimigos fizeram até

com que os meus próprios vizinhos me desprezassem;

fogem de mim quando passo na rua.

12 Para eles sou como morto,

como pedaços de louça partida que se deitam fora.

13 Ouvi as mentiras que muitos diziam a meu respeito.

Para qualquer lado que olhava, tinha medo,

porque todos tramavam contra a minha vida.

14 Mas eu confio em ti, Senhor, e digo:

"Tu és o meu Deus!"

15 Todo o tempo da minha vida está nas tuas mãos;

livra-me dos que me perseguem.

16 Que o teu favor brilhe novamente sobre o teu servo;

que a tua misericórdia me salve!

17 Não me deixes abatido, Senhor,

porque tenho chamado por ti.

Os pecadores, esses sim, sejam envergonhados

e reduzidos ao silêncio do mundo dos mortos.

18 Os seus lábios mentirosos sejam, enfim, emudecidos

pois falam com desprezo e arrogância dos que praticam a justiça.

19 Grande é a bondade que tens reservado

para com aqueles que te temem!

Tu os esconderás na tua presença,

abrigados das intrigas dos homens.

20 A esses irás recolhê-los na tua habitação,

salvos da maldade das suas línguas.

21 Bendito é o Senhor,

porque já me mostrou o seu amor;

um amor que nunca falha, maravilhoso,

que me protegeu quando a minha cidade estava sob ataque.

22 Falei precipitadamente quando disse:

"O Senhor desamparou-me!"

Porém, tu sempre ouviste a minha súplica,

quando chamei por ti.

23 Amem o Senhor, todos quantos lhe pertencem!

O Senhor protege os que lhe são fiéis,

mas castiga severamente os soberbos.

24 Vocês que confiam no Senhor, tenham coragem!

O Senhor dará força ao vosso coração.

1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.*31.2 my…: Heb. to me for a rock of strength

3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

8 And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

11 I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.*31.12 a broken…: Heb. a vessel that perisheth

13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

14 But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake.

17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.*31.17 silent…: or, cut off for

18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.*31.18 grievous…: Heb. a hard thing

19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

21 Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.*31.21 strong: or, fenced

22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
