Salmo de David.

1 Senhor, peço-te que acuses aqueles me acusam;

combate os que me combatem.

2 Com a tua armadura e o teu escudo,

vem, ajuda-me na batalha.

3 Levanta-te e barra o caminho aos meus perseguidores;

Quero ouvir-te declarar: "Eu sou a tua salvação."

4 Lança a confusão e a vergonha sobre os que procuram matar-me;

recuem e sejam derrotados os que me querem mal.

5 Sopra neles como o vento na palha;

que o anjo do Senhor os faça fugir.

6 Que o seu caminho se torne escuro e traiçoeiro;

que o anjo do Senhor os persiga.

7 Porque sem motivo me prepararam uma armadilha,

cavaram um fosso no meu caminho, para me apanhar.

8 Sejam destruídos, inesperadamente,

e apanhados na rede que esconderam para mim;

presos na armadilha com que queriam liquidar-me.

9 Eu me alegrarei muitíssimo no Senhor

e na salvação que me trará.

10 Todo o meu ser louvará o Senhor dizendo:

"Quem é como tu que livras o pobre

daquele que o oprime, por ser mais forte que ele,

o pobre e o necessitado daquele que os rouba?"

11 Levantaram-se contra mim falsas testemunhas;

acusaram-me de coisas que nunca tinha ouvido.

12 Pagaram-me com o mal, o bem que lhes fiz;

fique como alguém desolado.

13 Contudo, quando estavam doentes, eu ficava triste;

o meu espírito sentia-se abatido e eu jejuava.

No meu íntimo, fiz muitas orações;

mas elas permaneceram sem resposta.

14 Estava em cuidados, como se fosse o meu próprio irmão,

o meu melhor amigo, que estivesse às portas da morte;

andava abatido e lamentava-me,

como se fosse a minha mãe que estivesse a sofrer.

15 Mas quando fiquei em dificuldades, ficaram contentes;

reuniram-se para unir forças, sem eu saber;

caluniaram-me e não deram descanso à minha vida.

16 Como os ímpios, zombaram de mim,

rangendo os dentes de raiva contra mim.

17 Senhor, até quando verás isto, sem fazer nada?

Liberta a minha alma dos seus ataques;

só tenho uma vida e como leões querem destruí-la.

18 Hei de agradecer-te no ajuntamento do teu povo;

louvar-te-ei no meio da multidão.

19 Não se alegrem da minha desgraça os meus inimigos;

nem arregalem os olhos os que me odeiam sem motivo.

20 São pessoas que não sabem falar de paz;

proferem mentiras contra a vida de pessoas sossegadas e boas.

21 Bradam que me têm visto a fazer o mal:

"Vimo-lo com os nossos próprios olhos!", dizem.

22 Mas tu, Senhor, sabes tudo;

não te cales e não me desampares.

23 Levanta-te para julgares este assunto, Senhor, meu Deus;

para defenderes a minha causa.

24 Julga-me segundo a tua justiça,

Senhor, meu Deus;

não deixes que fiquem felizes com as minhas dificuldades.

25 Não os deixes dizer:

"Já estamos satisfeitos; conseguimos apanhá-lo!"

26 Que sejam eles, sim, a ficar mal e envergonhados,

todos os que se regozijam com as minhas dificuldades.

Sejam apanhados na confusão,

os que querem subir na vida à minha custa.

27 Mas tenham grandes alegrias os que desejam o meu bem;

que nunca deixem de cantar:

"Grande é o Senhor!

Ele tem prazer em ver prosperar os que o servem."

28 E assim todo o dia

eu te louvarei por causa da tua justiça.

A Psalm of David.

1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.*35.6 dark…: Heb. darkness and slipperiness

7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.*35.8 at…: Heb. which he knoweth not of

9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.*35.12 spoiling: Heb. depriving

13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.*35.13 humbled: or, afflicted

15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:*35.15 adversity: Heb. halting

16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.*35.17 darling: Heb. only one

18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.*35.18 much: Heb. strong

19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.*35.19 wrongfully: Heb. falsely

20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.

21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.

22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.

23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.

24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.

25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.*35.25 Ah…: Heb. Ah, ah, our soul

26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.*35.27 righteous…: Heb. righteousness

28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
