1 Se não for o Senhor a construir a casa,

será inútil o trabalho dos operários.

Se não for o Senhor a guardar a cidade,

não adiantará nada a vigília das sentinelas.

2 De nada serve trabalhar desde a madrugada,

até altas horas da noite e comer o pão ganho com suor.

Deus quer dar aos seus filhos o justo descanso.

3 Os filhos que temos são uma dádiva,

são um galardão que o Senhor nos concede.

4 Os filhos que nascem na nossa juventude

são como flechas nas mãos de um valente guerreiro.

5 Felizes os que fazem uma boa provisão deles!

Nunca hão de ficar mal,

quando tiverem de se confrontar com os adversários.
