1 Eis outra mensagem do Senhor a Jeremias. 2 "O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, diz: ‘Escreve, para que fique registado, tudo o que tenho dito. 3 Porque virá o tempo em que restaurarei a prosperidade do meu povo, tanto de Israel como de Judá, e tornarei a trazê-los a esta terra que é a sua, que dei aos seus antepassados; possuí-la-ão e tornarão outra vez a viver aqui.’ "

4 Estas são as palavras que o Senhor falou com respeito a Israel e a Judá: 5 " ‘Onde encontraremos a paz?’, clamam eles. ‘Só vemos pavores e tremores.’ 6 Procurem se é possível os homens comportarem-se como se estivessem a dar à luz? Andam por aí, pálidos, as mãos na barriga, como mulheres na hora do parto! 7 Em toda a vossa história, quando foi que houve um tempo semelhante a esse que está a chegar? É um tempo de angústia para o meu povo, para Jacob, como nunca antes conheceu, mas ele será salvo!

8 Porque nesse dia, diz o Senhor dos exércitos, quebrarei o jugo que pesa sobre os seus pescoços e quebrarei as suas correntes; não terão mais estrangeiros por senhores! 9 Servirão unicamente o Senhor, o seu Deus, e a David, o seu rei, a quem farei levantar-se para eles, diz o Senhor.

10 Por isso, não estejas receoso, Jacob, meu servo! Não desmaies, ó Israel! Porque tornarei a trazer-te para a tua terra, de lugares distantes, e aos teus filhos do exílio. Vocês hão de ter repouso e tranquilidade na vossa terra natal! Ninguém mais vos aterrorizará! 11 Pois serei convosco e vos salvarei, diz o Senhor. Mesmo tendo de exterminar completamente as nações para onde vos espalhei, vocês serão poupados. Castigar-vos-ei, é verdade, não ficarão impunes.

12 Porque o vosso pecado é uma chaga incurável, uma doença terrível. 13 Não há ninguém para vos socorrer, para vos ligar e tratar, nem remédios que possam fazer-vos bem algum. 14 Todos os vossos amantes vos abandonaram e não têm mais nenhum interesse em vocês, porque vos feri severamente, como se fosse um inimigo implacável; pois são muitos os vossos pecados e é grande a vossa culpa.

15 Porque protestam contra o castigo que têm? O vosso pecado é tão escandaloso que a vossa tristeza e arrependimento não deveriam ter fim! É por ser muito grande a vossa culpa que tive de vos punir dessa forma.

16 No entanto, nesse dia que há de vir, todos os que vos destroem serão destruídos e todos os vossos inimigos se tornarão escravos. Os que vos roubam serão roubados e os que vos atacam serão atacados. 17 Tornarei a dar-vos prosperidade e sararei as vossas feridas. Atualmente, chamam-vos proscritos e Sião é um lugar que ninguém procura.

18 Mas o Senhor diz: Eis que reconduzirei o meu povo à sua terra e terei misericórdia das suas moradas. A cidade será reconstruída sobre as ruínas, e o seu palácio colocado no seu devido lugar. 19 As cidades estarão cheias de alegria e de manifestações de reconhecimento; multiplicarei o meu povo e farei dele uma grande e honrosa nação. 20 Os seus filhos viverão bem, como nos tempos antigos, e as suas famílias estarão bem estabelecidas na minha presença; castigarei quem ousar ferir-vos de qualquer forma. 21 Terão novamente o seu chefe e não será um estrangeiro. Convidá-lo-ei e poderá aproximar-se de mim, pois quem ousaria aproximar-se de mim? Isto diz o Senhor. 22 Vocês serão o meu povo e eu serei o vosso Deus."

23 Repentinamente, uma tormenta devastadora da parte do Senhor rugirá com fúria, desabando sobre as cabeças dos ímpios. 24 O Senhor não fará parar a violência da sua ira antes que tenha acabado toda a destruição que planeara. Mais tarde, hão de compreender o que vos estou a dizer!

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book. 3 For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

4 And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 5 For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.*30.5 of fear…: or, there is fear, and not peace 6 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?*30.6 a man: Heb. a male 7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. 8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: 9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid. 11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. 12 For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. 13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.*30.13 that…: Heb. for binding up, or, pressing 14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased. 15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee. 16 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey. 17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

18 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.*30.18 heap: or, little hill 19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 20 Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. 21 And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD. 22 And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 23 Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.*30.23 continuing: Heb. cutting*30.23 fall…: or, remain 24 The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
