1 Foi no décimo mês*39.1 Mês de Quisleu. Entre a lua nova do mês de novembro e o mês de dezembro. do nono ano do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá, que o rei Nabucodonozor e todo o seu exército veio de novo contra Jerusalém e a sitiou. 2 No nono dia do quarto mês*39.2 Mês de Tamuz. Entre a lua nova do mês de junho e o mês de julho. do décimo primeiro ano de Zedequias, conseguiram fazer uma brecha na muralha e a cidade caiu em poder deles. 3 Todos os chefes militares babilónicos penetraram por ela e concentraram-se triunfalmente na porta do Meio. Nergal-Sarezer estava entre eles, como também Sangar-Nebo, Sarsequim, o chefe da casa militar do rei, assim como muitos outros.

4 Quando o rei Zedequias e os seus militares se deram conta que a cidade estava perdida, fugiram durante a noite, pela porta que está entre as duas muralhas, nas traseiras dos jardins do palácio, e foram-se através dos campos em direção ao vale do Jordão. 5 Mas os caldeus perseguiram o rei e apanharam-no nas planícies de Jericó, trazendo-o à presença de Nabucodonozor, rei da Babilónia, que se encontrava em Ribla, na terra de Hamate, e ali pronunciou a sentença sobre ele. 6 O rei da Babilónia obrigou Zedequias a presenciar a morte dos seus próprios filhos e de todos os nobres de Judá. 7 Depois arrancou-lhe os olhos e mandou-o, amarrado com cadeias de bronze, para a Babilónia.

8 Entretanto, a tropa incendiava Jerusalém, incluindo o palácio, e deitava abaixo as muralhas da cidade. 9 Depois disto, Nebuzaradão, o comandante da guarda, mandou para a Babilónia o resto da população que ficara, mais aqueles que se tinham passado para o seu lado. 10 Mas na terra de Judá deixou ainda alguma gente do povo, dos mais pobres, dando-lhes campos e vinhas.

11 Ao mesmo tempo, o rei Nabucodonozor tinha dado ordens a Nebuzaradão para ir buscar Jeremias. 12 "Vê que não lhe aconteça nenhum mal!", disse-lhe. "Trata bem dele e fornece-lhe tudo o que pretender!" 13 Assim, Nebuzaradão, o comandante da guarda, Nebuchazebã, chefe dos eunucos, Nergal-Sarezer, conselheiro do rei, e todos os outros oficiais começaram a dar passos para cumprir a ordem do rei. 14 Enviaram soldados para tirar Jeremias da prisão e puseram-no sob os cuidados de Gedalias, filho de Aicão e neto de Safã. Jeremias ficou a viver entre o povo deixado na terra.

15 O Senhor tinha dado esta mensagem a Jeremias, antes dos babilónios terem chegado, quando ainda estava na prisão: 16 "Manda este aviso a Ebede-Meleque, o cuchita: O Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel, diz assim: Hei de fazer com esta cidade tudo quanto tenho dito sobre ela; destruí-la-ei perante os vossos olhos. 17 Mas a ti, livrar-te-ei e não te entregarei nas mãos dos homens de que tens medo. 18 Como recompensa por teres confiado em mim, pouparei a tua vida e estarás em segurança."

1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it. 2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up. 3 And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

4 And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain. 5 But the Chaldeans’ army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.*39.5 gave…: Heb. spake with him judgments 6 Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. 7 Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.*39.7 with…: Heb. with two brasen chains, or, fetters

11 Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard, saying,*39.11 to: Heb. by the hand of*39.11 captain…: or, chief marshal: Heb. chief of the executioners, or, slaughtermen 12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.*39.12 look…: Heb. set thine eyes upon him 13 So Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rab-saris, and Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, and all the king of Babylon’s princes;*39.13 captain…: or, chief marshal: Heb. chief of the executioners, or, slaughtermen 14 Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.

15 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 16 Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. 17 But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. 18 For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.
