1 Cantem para Deus com toda a alegria!

Ele é quem nos dá a força.

Cantem louvores ao Deus de Jacob!

2 Cantem com acompanhamento de instrumentos;

com tambores, com a harpa suave e com a lira.

3 Toquem a trombeta!

Venham participar nas festas da lua nova e da lua cheia,

que é a nossa grande festa*81.3 Festa das Tendas ou Festa dos Tabernáculos.!

4 Porque tudo isto foi ordenado por Deus,

foi mandado pelo Deus de Jacob.

5 Para lembrança, entre os descendentes de José,

do tempo em que saíram do Egito.

Ali ouvimos uma voz desconhecida, que disse:

6 "Tirarei dos seus ombros aquele fardo;

as suas mãos ficarão livres de tarefas pesadas.

7 Clamaste na tua angústia e eu te livrei;

respondi-te, do lugar oculto dos trovões.

Provei a tua fé em Meribá,

quando te queixaste de falta de água. (Pausa)

8 Ouve, povo meu, o meu solene aviso.

Ah! Israel, se tu me ouvisses!

9 Eu tinha-te dito:

‘Nunca adorarás outros deuses;

não prestarás culto a ídolos.

10 Pois eu sou o Senhor teu Deus que te tirou do Egito.

Experimenta abrir a tua boca

e verás como te encherei das minhas bênçãos.’

11 Mas o meu povo não quis ouvir-me;

Israel rejeitou-me.

12 Por isso, os deixarei entregues a si mesmos

e aos desejos dos seus corações.

13 Ah! Se o meu povo me tivesse escutado,

e tivesse aceitado andar nos meus caminhos!

14 Como teria rapidamente subjugado os seus inimigos!

Como me teria oposto aos seus adversários!

15 Os que desprezam o Senhor ter-se-iam sujeitado;

teriam sido vencidos para sempre.

16 Eu teria sustentado Israel com o trigo mais fino;

tê-lo-ia satisfeito com o delicioso mel que escorre da rocha."

1 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.*81.1 of Asaph: or, for Asaph

2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

4 For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;

9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

10 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
