Salmo didático de David. Quando Doegue, de Edom, foi informar Saul que David tinha ido para a casa de Aimeleque.

1 Porque te consideras um herói na maldade,

e te gabas do mal que fizeste?

A bondade de Deus permanece continuamente.

2 És como uma navalha afiada,

quando planeias ações malvadas.

3 Amas o mal e não o bem,

a mentira e não a verdade. (Pausa)

4 A tua língua mentirosa deleita-se em caluniar;

em dizer tudo o que possa prejudicar os outros.

5 Mas Deus te destruirá para sempre

e te arrancará do lugar onde vives.

Tirar-te-á da terra dos vivos. (Pausa)

6 E os que seguem a justiça de Deus

verão isso acontecer e terão medo.

Mas depois, rindo até, dirão a respeito dele:

7 "Vejam o que acontece a quem despreza a Deus

e confia antes nas suas posses;

a quem se torna mais atrevido na sua maldade."

8 Mas eu sou como uma oliveira

que Deus protege e defende na sua casa.

Confio na misericórdia de Deus para todo o sempre.

9 Ó Deus, eu te louvarei para sempre pelo que fizeste.

Espero em ti, pois todos os crentes sabem

que o teu nome é o de um Deus bom.

2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.*52.5 destroy…: Heb. beat thee down

6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.*52.7 wickedness: or, substance

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
