1 Keep thy foot, when thou goest unto the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than dullards to offer sacrifice,for they make no acknowledgment of doing wrong.2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and, with thy heart, be not in haste to bring forth a word, before God,for, God, is in the heavens, and, thou, upon the earth, for this cause, let thy words be few.3 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business,and, the voice of a dullard, is with a multitude of words.4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, do not defer to pay it, for there is no pleasure in dullards,what thou vowest, pay!5 Better that thou shouldest not vow,than vow, and not pay.6 Do not let thy mouth cause thy flesh to sin,neither say thou, before the messenger, that it was, a mistake,wherefore should God be indignant at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?7 For amidst a multitude of dreams, and vanities, and many words,but, towards God, be thou reverent.8 If, the oppression of the poor, and the wresting of justice and righteousness, thou see in the province, do not be astonished over the matter,for, one high above the highest, is watching, yea, the Most High, is over them.9 And, the profit of the earth, is, for all,a king, by the field, is served.10 He that loveth silver, shall not be satisfied with silver nor, he that loveth abundance, with revenue,-even this, was vanity.11 When blessings are increased, increased are the eaters thereof,what profit, then, to the owner of them saving the sight of his eyes?12 Sweet the sleep of the labourer, whether, little or much, he eat,but, the surfeit of the rich man, will not suffer him to sleep.13 Here was an incurable evil, I had seen under the sun, riches kept by the owner thereof, to his hurt;14 and those riches perish, by being ill employed,and though he begetteth a son, yet is there in his hand nothing at all.15 As he came from his mothers womb, naked, he again departeth, as he came,and, nothing, can he take of his toil, which he can carry in his hand.16 Even this, moreover, is an incurable evil, altogether as he came, so, shall he depart,what profit then shall he have who toileth for the wind?17 Even all his days,18 Lo! what, I myself, have seenBetter that it should be excellent to eat and to drink and to see blessedness, in all ones toil wherein one toileth under the sun, for the number of the days of his life, in that God hath given it him, for, that, is his portion:19 yet, as regardeth every man, to whom God hath given wealth and goods, and granted him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to find gladness in his toil, this, is, the gift of God.20 Though it be not much, let him remember the days of his life,for, God, beareth witness, by the gladness of his heart.

1 Guarda o teu pé, quando entrares na Casa de Deus; e inclina-te mais a ouvir do que a oferecer sacrifícios de tolos, pois não sabem que fazem mal. 2 Não te precipites com a tua boca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar palavra alguma diante de Deus; porque Deus está nos céus, e tu estás sobre a terra; pelo que sejam poucas as tuas palavras. 3 Porque da muita ocupação vêm os sonhos, e a voz do tolo, da multidão das palavras. 4 Quando a Deus fizeres algum voto, não tardes em cumpri-lo; porque não se agrada de tolos; o que votares, paga-o. 5 Melhor é que não votes do que votes e não pagues. 6 Não consintas que a tua boca faça pecar a tua carne, nem digas diante do anjo que foi erro; por que razão se iraria Deus contra a tua voz, de sorte que destruísse a obra das tuas mãos? 7 Porque, como na multidão dos sonhos há vaidades, assim também nas muitas palavras; mas tu, teme a Deus.

8 Se vires em alguma província opressão de pobres e a violência em lugar do juízo e da justiça, não te maravilhes de semelhante caso; porque o que mais alto é do que os altos para isso atenta; e há mais altos do que eles. 9 O proveito da terra é para todos; até o rei se serve do campo.

10 O que amar o dinheiro nunca se fartará de dinheiro; e quem amar a abundância nunca se fartará da renda; também isso é vaidade. 11 Onde a fazenda se multiplica, aí se multiplicam também os que a comem; que mais proveito, pois, têm os seus donos do que a verem com os seus olhos? 12 Doce é o sono do trabalhador, quer coma pouco quer muito; mas a fartura do rico não o deixa dormir. 13 Há mal que vi debaixo do sol e atrai enfermidades: as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o próprio dano. 14 Porque as mesmas riquezas se perdem por qualquer má aventura; e, havendo algum filho, nada fica na sua mão. 15 Como saiu do ventre de sua mãe, assim nu voltará, indo-se como veio; e nada tomará do seu trabalho, que possa levar na sua mão. 16 Também isto é um mal que causa enfermidades: que, infalivelmente, como veio, assim ele vai; e que proveito lhe vem de trabalhar para o vento, 17 e de haver comido todos os seus dias nas trevas, e de haver padecido muito enfado, e enfermidades, e cruel furor? 18 Eis aqui o que eu vi, uma boa e bela coisa: comer, e beber, e gozar cada um do bem de todo o seu trabalho, em que trabalhou debaixo do sol, todos os dias da sua vida que Deus lhe deu; porque esta é a sua porção. 19 E quanto ao homem, a quem Deus deu riquezas e fazenda e lhe deu poder para delas comer, e tomar a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho, isso é dom de Deus. 20 Porque não se lembrará muito dos dias da sua vida; porquanto Deus lhe responde na alegria do seu coração.
