1 Hear, I pray you, what, Yahweh, is saying,arise thou, maintain thy controversy before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice:2 Hear, ye mountains, the controversy of Yahweh, and ye lasting rocks, the foundations of the earth,for, a controversy, hath Yahweh, with his people, and, with Israel, will he dispute.3 O my people! what have I done to thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? Testify thou against me!4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and, out of the house of slaves, I ransomed thee,and I sent before thee, Moses, Aaron and Miriam.5 O my people! remember, I pray you, what Balak king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam son of Beer, answered him,from the Acacias as far as Gilgal, that ye may know the righteousness of Yahweh.6 Wherewith, shall I come before Yahweh? bow myself to God on high? Shall I come before him with ascending-sacrifice? with calves of a year old?7 Will Yahweh, be pleased, with thousands of rams? with myriads of torrents of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression? the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?8 He hath told thee, O son of earth, what is good,what then is, Yahweh, seeking of thee, but, to do justice, to delight in lovingkindness, and humbly to walk with thy God?9 The voice of Yahweh, to the city, crieth out, With safety for him who regardeth his name,Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.10 Even yet, are there, in the house of the lawless one, the treasures of lawlessness,and the scant measureaccurst?11 Shall I be pure with lawless balances? or with bag of deceitful weights?12 For, her rich men, are full of violence, and, her inhabitants, have spoken falsehood,and, their tongue, is deceitful in their mouth.13 Moreover also, I, have made thee sick with smiting thee,laying thee waste because of thy sins.14 Thou, shalt eatand not be satisfied, but be shrunk with hunger within thee,Though thou remove, yet shalt thou not set in safety, and, what thou dost set in safety, to the sword, will I deliver.15 Thou, shalt sow, but shalt not reap,thou, shalt tread the olive, but shalt not anoint thee with oil, also the grape, but shalt not drink the wine.16 For strictly observed are the statutes of Omri, and every doing of the house of Ahab, and ye have walked in their counsels,to the end I may give thee up to desolation, and her inhabitants to hissing, that, the reproach of peoples, ye may bear.

1 Ouvi, agora, o que diz o Senhor: Levanta-te, contende com os montes, e ouçam os outeiros a tua voz. 2 Ouvi, montes, a contenda do Senhor, e vós, fortes fundamentos da terra; porque o Senhor tem uma contenda com o seu povo e com Israel entrará em juízo.

3 Ó povo meu! Que te tenho feito? E em que te enfadei? Testifica contra mim. 4 Certamente, te fiz subir da terra do Egito e da casa da servidão te remi; e pus diante de ti a Moisés, Arão e Miriã. 5 Povo meu, ora, lembra-te da consulta de Balaque, rei de Moabe, e do que lhe respondeu Balaão, filho de Beor, desde Sitim até Gilgal; para que conheças as justiças do Senhor.

6 Com que me apresentarei ao Senhor e me inclinarei ante o Deus Altíssimo? Virei perante ele com holocaustos, com bezerros de um ano? 7 Agradar-se-á o Senhor de milhares de carneiros? De dez mil ribeiros de azeite? Darei o meu primogênito pela minha transgressão? O fruto do meu ventre, pelo pecado da minha alma? 8 Ele te declarou, ó homem, o que é bom; e que é o que o Senhor pede de ti, senão que pratiques a justiça, e ames a beneficência, e andes humildemente com o teu Deus?

9 A voz do Senhor clama à cidade, e o sábio verá o teu nome: Ouvi a vara e quem a ordenou. 10 Ainda há na casa do ímpio tesouros de impiedade? E efa pequeno, que é detestável? 11 Seria eu limpo com balanças falsas? E com um saco de pesos enganosos? 12 Porque os seus ricos estão cheios de violência, e os seus habitantes falam mentiras; e a sua língua é enganosa na sua boca. 13 Assim, eu também te enfraquecerei, ferindo-te e assolando-te por causa dos teus pecados. 14 Tu comerás, mas não te fartarás; e a tua humilhação estará no meio de ti; removerás, mas não livrarás; e aquilo que livrares, eu o entregarei à espada. 15 Tu semearás, mas não segarás; pisarás a azeitona, mas não te ungirás com azeite; e o mosto, mas não beberás vinho. 16 Porque se observam os estatutos de Onri e toda a obra da casa de Acabe, e vós andais nos conselhos deles; para que eu faça de ti uma desolação e dos seus habitantes um assobio; assim, trareis sobre vós o opróbrio do meu povo.
