1 The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.2 Re-ai'ah the son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath was the father of Ahu'mai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zo'rathites.3 These were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelpo'ni,4 and Penu'el was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the first-born of Eph'rathah, the father of Bethlehem.5 Ashhur, the father of Teko'a, had two wives, Helah and Na'arah;6 Na'arah bore him Ahuz'zam, Hepher, Te'meni, and Ha-ahash'tari. These were the sons of Na'arah.7 The sons of Helah: Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.8 Koz was the father of Anub, Zobe'bah, and the families of Ahar'hel the son of Harum.9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain."10 Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that thou wouldst bless me and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldst keep me from harm so that it might not hurt me!" And God granted what he asked.11 Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.12 Eshton was the father of Bethra'pha, Pase'ah, and Tehin'nah the father of Irna'hash. These are the men of Recah.13 The sons of Kenaz: Oth'ni-el and Serai'ah; and the sons of Oth'ni-el: Hathath and Meo'nothai.14 Meo'nothai was the father of Ophrah; and Serai'ah was the father of Jo'ab the father of Ge-har'ashim, so-called because they were craftsmen.15 The sons of Caleb the son of Jephun'neh: Iru, Elah, and Na'am; and the sons of Elah: Kenaz.16 The sons of Jehal'lelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tir'i-a, and As'arel.17 The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. These are the sons of Bith'i-ah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married; and she conceived and bore Miriam, Sham'mai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemo'a.18 And his Jewish wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jeku'thiel the father of Zano'ah.19 The sons of the wife of Hodi'ah, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Kei'lah the Garmite and Eshtemo'a the Ma-ac'athite.20 The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-ha'nan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-zo'heth.21 The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, La'adah the father of Mare'shah, and the families of the house of linen workers at Beth-ashbe'a;22 and Jokim, and the men of Coze'ba, and Jo'ash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and returned to Lehem (now the records are ancient).23 These were the potters and inhabitants of Neta'im and Gede'rah; they dwelt there with the king for his work.24 The sons of Simeon: Nem'uel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Sha'ul;25 Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.26 The sons of Mishma: Ham'mu-el his son, Zac'cur his son, Shim'e-i his son.27 Shim'e-i had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers had not many children, nor did all their family multiply like the men of Judah.28 They dwelt in Beer-sheba, Mola'dah, Ha'zar-shu'al,29 Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad,30 Bethu'el, Hormah, Ziklag,31 Beth-mar'caboth, Ha'zar-su'sim, Beth-biri, and Sha-ara'im. These were their cities until David reigned.32 And their villages were Etam, A'in, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities,33 along with all their villages which were round about these cities as far as Ba'al. These were their settlements, and they kept a genealogical record.34 Mesho'bab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amazi'ah,35 Jo'el, Jehu the son of Joshibi'ah, son of Serai'ah, son of As'i-el,36 Eli-o-e'nai, Ja-ako'bah, Jeshohai'ah, Asai'ah, Ad'i-el, Jesim'iel, Benai'ah,37 Ziza the son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedai'ah, son of Shimri, son of Shemai'ah--38 these mentioned by name were princes in their families, and their fathers' houses increased greatly.39 They journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks,40 where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, quiet, and peaceful; for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham.41 These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezeki'ah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Me-u'nim who were found there, and exterminated them to this day, and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks.42 And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to Mount Se'ir, having as their leaders Pelati'ah, Ne-ari'ah, Rephai'ah, and Uz'ziel, the sons of Ishi;43 and they destroyed the remnant of the Amal'ekites that had escaped, and they have dwelt there to this day.

3,4 Hur foi o filho mais velho de Calebe e da sua mulher Efrata, e os seus descendentes fundaram a cidade de Belém. Hur foi pai de três filhos: Etã, Penuel e Ézer. Etã foi pai de três filhos: Jezreel, Isma e Idbas e de uma filha chamada Hazelelponi. Penuel fundou a cidade de Gedor, e Ézer fundou Husa.

5 Asur, que fundou a cidade de Tecoa, teve duas esposas: Helá e Naara. 6 Ele e Naara tiveram quatro filhos: Auzã, Héfer, Temeni e Haastari. 7 Asur e Helá tiveram três filhos: Zerete, Isar e Etnã.

8 Coz foi pai de Anube e Zobeba e foi o antepassado dos grupos de famílias que descendem de Acarel, filho de Harum.

9 Houve um homem chamado Jabes, que foi a pessoa mais respeitada da sua família. A sua mãe pôs nele o nome de Jabes porque ela havia sofrido muito durante o parto. 10 Mas Jabes orou assim ao Deus de Israel: "Ó Deus, abençoa-me e dá-me muitas terras. Fica comigo e livra-me de qualquer coisa que possa me causar dor." E Deus atendeu a sua oração.

11 Quelube, irmão de Suá, foi pai de um filho chamado Meir. Meir foi pai de Estom, 12 e Estom foi pai de três filhos: Bete-Rafa, Paseia e Teína. Teína foi o fundador da cidade de Naás. Os descendentes deles moravam em Reca.

13 Quenaz foi pai de dois filhos: Otoniel e Seraías. Otoniel também foi pai de dois filhos: Hatate e Meonotai. 14 Meonotai foi pai de Ofrá.

Seraías foi pai de Joabe, o fundador do vale dos Artesãos, onde todos os homens faziam trabalhos de artesanato.

15 Calebe, filho de Jefoné, foi pai de três filhos: Iru, Elá e Naã. E Elá foi pai de Quenaz.

16 Jealelel foi pai de quatro filhos: Zife, Zifa, Tiria e Asareel.

17 Esdras foi pai de quatro filhos: Jéter, Merede, Éfer e Jalom. Merede casou com Bitia, que era filha do rei do Egito, e eles tiveram uma filha chamada Míriam e dois filhos: Samai e Isba. Isba fundou a cidade de Estemoa. 18 Merede também casou com uma mulher da tribo de Judá, e eles tiveram três filhos: Jerede, que fundou a cidade de Gedor; Héber, que fundou Socó; e Jecutiel, que fundou Zanoa.

19 Hodias casou com a irmã de Naã. Os seus descendentes fundaram o grupo de famílias de Garmi, que morava na cidade de Queila, e o grupo de famílias de Maacá, que morava em Estemoa.

20 Simão foi pai de quatro filhos: Amnom, Rina, Ben-Hanã e Tilom.

Isi foi pai de dois filhos: Zoete e Ben-Zoete.

21 Selá foi um dos filhos de Judá. Um dos descendentes de Selá foi Er, que fundou a cidade de Leca; outro foi Lada, que fundou Maressa. Selá foi também o antepassado dos grupos de famílias que teciam linho e que moravam na cidade de Bete-Asbeia. 22 Foi também o antepassado de Joquim e do povo que morava na cidade de Cozeba. E também de Joás e Sarafe, que casaram com mulheres moabitas e ficaram morando em Belém. (Estes registros são antigos.) 23 Eles eram oleiros que trabalhavam para o rei e moravam nas cidades de Netaim e Gedera.

24 Simeão foi pai de cinco filhos: Nemuel, Jamim, Jaribe, Zera e Saul. 25 Saul foi pai de Salum, Salum foi pai de Mibsão, e Mibsão foi pai de Misma. 26 Misma foi pai de Hamuel, Hamuel foi pai de Zacur, e Zacur foi pai de Simei. 27 Simei foi pai de dezesseis filhos e seis filhas, mas os seus parentes tiveram menos filhos do que ele, e a tribo de Simeão não cresceu tanto como a tribo de Judá.

28 Até o tempo do rei Davi, os descendentes de Simeão moravam nas seguintes cidades: Berseba, Molada, Hazar-Sual, 29 Bila, Ezém, Tolade, 30 Betuel, Horma, Ziclague, 31 Bete-Marcabote, Hazar-Susim, Bete-Biri e Saaraim. 32 Eles também moravam em mais cinco cidades: Etã, Aim, Rimom, Toquém e Asã, 33 e nos povoados que ficavam ao seu redor, até a cidade de Baal. São essas as suas famílias e os lugares onde moravam.

34-38 São estes os chefes dos seus grupos de famílias: Mesobabe, Janleque, Josa, filho de Amazias; Joel, Jeú, filho de Josibias, neto de Seraías e bisneto de Asiel; Elioenai, Jaacobá, Jesoaías, Asaías, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaías, Ziza, filho de Sifi, neto de Alom, bisneto de Jedaías, trineto de Sinri e tetraneto de Samaías.

As suas famílias continuaram a aumentar, e por isso 39 eles se espalharam para o oeste quase até Gerar e levaram as suas ovelhas para pastar no lado leste do vale onde fica aquela cidade. 40 Ali eles acharam muitas pastagens num pedaço de terra espaçosa, tranquila e cheia de paz. Os descendentes de Cam haviam morado ali antes.

41 No tempo do rei Ezequias, de Judá, os homens cujos nomes estão escritos acima foram até Gerar e destruíram as barracas e cabanas do povo que morava ali. Eles expulsaram o povo e ficaram morando em Gerar porque ali havia bastante pasto para as suas ovelhas. 42 Quinhentos homens da tribo de Simeão foram para Edom, na direção leste. Os seus chefes eram os filhos de Isi: Pelatias, Nearias, Refaías e Uziel. 43 Eles mataram os amalequitas que haviam escapado com vida e estão morando ali até hoje.
