Från Paulus, Silvanus*1:1SilvanusEn ansedd judekristen profet (Apg 15:22f) som hade varit med Paulus i Tessalonike (Apg 17:4f). och Timoteus*1:1TimoteusPaulus närmaste medarbetare (se t ex Apg 16:1f, Fil 2:19f, 1-2 Tim).. Till Tessalonikes församling som lever i Gud vår Far och Herren Jesus Kristus. 2 Nåd vare med er och frid från Gud vår Far och Herren Jesus Kristus.

3 *1 Tess 1:2f, 2 Tess 2:13. Vi måste alltid tacka Gud för er, bröder. Och det har vi goda skäl till, för er tro växer starkt och kärleken som ni alla har till varandra blir allt större hos var och en. 4 *1 Tess 2:14, 19. Därför berömmer vi oss av er bland Guds församlingar, av er uthållighet och er tro under alla de förföljelser och lidanden som ni får utstå. 5 *Matt 5:11f, Fil 1:28. Detta är ett bevis på Guds rättvisa dom, att ni ska räknas värdiga Guds rike som ni lider för.

6 *Rom 2:6f, Kol 3:24f. Gud är rättfärdig: han straffar med plågor dem som plågar er  7 *Matt 25:31. och låter er som plågas få lindring tillsammans med oss. Det sker när Herren Jesus uppenbarar sig från himlen med sina mäktiga änglar 8 *Jes 66:15, Dan 7:9, 2 Petr 3:7. i flammande eld och straffar dem som inte vill veta av Gud och dem som inte lyder vår Herre Jesu evangelium. 9 *Matt 25:41. De ska straffas med evigt fördärv, skilda från Herrens ansikte*1:9fördärv, skilda från Herrens ansikteAnnan översättning: "fördärv från Herrens ansikte". och hans härlighet och makt, 10 *1 Tess 3:13, Kol 3:4. när han kommer på den dagen för att förhärligas i sina heliga och väcka förundran hos alla dem som tror. Och ni har trott det vittnesbörd vi gav er.

11 *Fil 2:13, 1 Tess 2:12. Därför ber vi alltid för er, att vår Gud ska räkna er värdiga sin kallelse och med kraft fullborda all god vilja och gärning i tron. 12 *Mal 1:11, Joh 17:10. Då ska vår Herre Jesu namn förhärligas i er, och ni i honom, genom vår Guds och Herren Jesu Kristi nåd.

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; 4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. 11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
