Joabe reprova Davi

1 Foi dito a Joabe: Eis que *2Sm 18.5,14o rei chora e lamenta a Absalão. 2 E a vitória converteu-se em luto, naquele dia, para todo o povo, porque o povo ouviu dizer naquele dia: O rei faz lamentações por seu filho. 3 Entrou o povo, naquele dia, na cidade às furtadelas, como o faz quando foge envergonhado da batalha. 4 O rei, *2Sm 15.30tendo coberto o rosto, clamava em alta voz: *2Sm 18.33Meu filho Absalão! Absalão, filho meu, filho meu! 5 Joabe entrou ao rei, em casa, e disse: Cobriste hoje de confusão o rosto de todos os teus servos que hoje salvaram a tua vida, e a vida de teus filhos e filhas, e a de tuas mulheres e concubinas, 6 amando aos que te aborrecem e aborrecendo aos que te amam. Hoje, declaraste que não se te dá nem de príncipes nem de servos, pois conheço agora que, se Absalão vivesse, e todos nós fôssemos mortos, tu ficarias muito contente. 7 Levanta-te sem demora, sai e fala palavras de conforto aos teus servos. Juro por Jeová que, se não saíres, nem sequer um homem ficará contigo esta noite; e isso será pior do que todos os males que têm vindo sobre ti desde a tua mocidade até agora. 8 O rei levantou-se e *2Sm 15.2;18.24assentou-se à porta; e todo o povo veio apresentar-se perante o rei.

Ora, *2Sm 18.17Israel havia fugido, cada um para a sua tenda. 9 Todo o povo, em todas as tribos de Israel, queixava-se, dizendo: *2Sm 8.1-14O rei livrou-nos da mão dos nossos inimigos, *2Sm 5.20;8.1ele nos salvou das mãos dos filisteus e agora *2Sm 15.14saiu da terra fugindo de Absalão. 10 Absalão, a quem ungimos sobre nós, morreu na batalha. Agora, por que não tratais vós de fazer voltar o rei?

Davi volta para Jerusalém

11 O *2Sm 15.29rei Davi mandou dizer aos sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar: Falai aos anciãos de Judá: Por que sois vós os últimos em fazer voltar o rei para a sua casa? Pois já a palavra de todo o Israel é chegada ao rei, no sentido de o trazer para sua casa. 12 Vós sois meus irmãos, *2Sm 5.1sois meu osso e minha carne; por que, então, sois vós os últimos em fazer voltar o rei? 13 *2Sm 17.25Dizei a Amasa: Não és tu meu osso e minha carne? *1Rs 19.2Assim me faça Deus e ainda mais, se não fores diante de mim para sempre *2Sm 8.16general do exército, *2Sm 3.27-39;19.5-7em lugar de Joabe. 14 Então, moveu ele o coração de todos os homens de Judá *Jz 20.1como se fora um só homem, de modo que enviaram a dizer ao rei: Volta com todos os teus servos. 15 Voltou o rei e chegou ao Jordão. Judá foi a *Js 5.9;1Sm 11.14-15Gilgal para receber o rei, a fim de fazê-lo passar o Jordão.

16 Apressou-se *2Sm 16.5-13;1Rs 2.8Simei, filho de Gera, benjamita, que era de Baurim, e desceu com os homens de Judá a encontrar-se com o rei Davi. 17 Com ele estavam mil homens de Benjamim e *2Sm 16.1-4;19.26-27Ziba, servo da casa de Saul, acompanhado de seus quinze filhos e dos seus vinte servos. Meteram-se pelo Jordão adiante do rei, 18 passando repetidas vezes o vau, para conduzirem os da casa real e para fazerem o que lhe era agradável. Simei prostrou-se perante o rei, quando havia passado o Jordão, 19 e disse-lhe: *2Sm 16.6-8;1Sm 22.15Não me tenhas por culpado, meu senhor, nem te lembres do que, perversamente, fez o teu servo no dia em que o rei, meu senhor, saiu de Jerusalém, para levá-lo em conta. 20 Pois eu, teu servo, conheço que pequei; por isso, sou vindo hoje *2Sm 16.5o primeiro de toda a casa de José para descer ao encontro do rei, meu senhor.

21 Abisai, porém, filho de Zeruia, respondeu e disse: *2Sm 16.7-8Não será morto Simei, *Êx 22.28por ter amaldiçoado o ungido de Jeová? 22 Davi disse: *2Sm 3.39;16.9-10Que tenho eu convosco, filhos de Zeruia, para que hoje me sejais adversários? *1Sm 11.13Há de hoje tirar-se a vida a alguém em Israel? Pois não sei eu que hoje sou feito rei em Israel? 23 Então, disse o rei a Simei: *1Rs 2.8Não morrerás. O rei lho jurou.

Mefibosete encontra-se com Davi

24 Desceu também *2Sm 9.6-10Mefibosete, filho de Saul, a receber o rei; *2Sm 12.20ele não dera cuidado aos pés, nem tinha feito a barba, *Êx 19.10nem lavado os vestidos desde o dia em que o rei saíra até o dia em que voltou em paz. 25 Tendo chegado a Jerusalém para se encontrar com o rei, perguntou-lhe este: *2Sm 16.17Por que não foste comigo, Mefibosete? 26 Respondeu ele: Ó rei, meu senhor, o meu criado me enganou. Pois o teu servo disse: Eu albardarei um jumento, para nele montar e ir com o rei; *2Sm 9.3porque o teu servo é coxo. 27 Mas *2Sm 16.3-4ele, falsamente, acusou o teu servo diante do rei, meu senhor; porém tu, ó rei, meu senhor, és *2Sm 14.17,20como um anjo de Deus. Faze, pois, o que bem te parecer. 28 Pois *2Sm 21.6-9toda a casa de meu pai não era senão digna de morte diante do rei, meu senhor; *2Sm 9.7,10,13contudo, puseste o teu servo entre os que comem à tua mesa. Que direito mais tenho eu de clamar ainda ao rei? 29 Respondeu-lhe o rei: Por que falas ainda dos teus negócios? Resolvo que com Ziba repartas as terras. 30 Disse Mefibosete ao rei: Fique ele muito embora com tudo, uma vez que o rei, meu senhor, já voltou em paz à sua casa.

Barzilai encontra-se com Davi

31 Também *2Sm 17.27-29;1Rs 2.7Barzilai, gileadita, desceu de Rogelim, e passou na companhia do rei para o acompanhar até a outra banda do Jordão. 32 Era Barzilai muito velho, da idade de oitenta anos. Ele tinha provido o rei de víveres, quando estava em Maanaim, porque era um homem muito rico. 33 Disse o rei a Barzilai: Passa tu comigo, e te sustentarei em Jerusalém. 34 Respondeu Barzilai ao rei: *Gn 47.8Quantos são os dias dos anos da minha vida, para que eu suba com o rei a Jerusalém? 35 *Sl 90.10Oitenta anos tenho hoje; poderei eu discernir entre o bom e o mau? Poderá o teu servo perceber o sabor no que come ou no que bebe? Poderei mais ouvir a *Ec 2.8;Is 5.11-12voz dos cantores ou das cantoras? *2Sm 15.33Por que há de ser o teu servo ainda pesado ao rei, meu senhor? 36 O teu servo só quer passar o Jordão com o rei; por que há de me pagar o rei com tal recompensa? 37 Deixa voltar o teu servo para que eu morra na minha cidade e seja enterrado junto à sepultura de meu pai e de minha mãe. Mas eis aqui o teu servo *2Sm 19.40;1Rs 2.7;Jr 41.17Quimã. Passe ele com o rei, meu senhor; e faze-lhe o que for do teu agrado. 38 Respondeu o rei: Quimã passará comigo e far-lhe-ei o que bem te parecer. Tudo o que de mim exigires, isso te farei. 39 Todo o povo passou o Jordão; também o rei passou. O rei *2Sm 14.33;Gn 31.55;Rt 1.14beijou a Barzilai e o abençoou; e este voltou para o seu lugar.

Ciúmes entre Israel e Judá

40 Passou o rei para Gilgal, e Quimã passou em sua companhia. Todo o povo de Judá conduziu o rei, e bem assim a *2Sm 19.9-10metade do povo de Israel. 41 Eis que todos os homens de Israel vieram ter com o rei e lhe disseram: *Jz 8.1;12.1Por que te roubaram nossos irmãos, *2Sm 19.11-12os homens de Judá, e fizeram ao rei, e a toda a sua casa, e a todos os homens de Davi passar o Jordão? 42 Todos os homens de Judá responderam aos homens de Israel: Porque *2Sm 19.12o rei é nosso parente chegado. Por que é que vos irais por isso? Acaso, temos comido à custa do rei? Ou tem-se-nos dado algum presente? 43 Os homens de Israel responderam aos homens de Judá: *2Sm 5.1;1Rs 11.30-31Dez partes temos no rei, e mais nos toca também Davi a nós do que a vós; por que não fizestes caso de nós, quando fomos nós que primeiro falamos em fazer voltar o nosso rei? Porém as palavras dos homens de Judá eram mais desabridas do que as palavras dos homens de Israel.

1 And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom. 2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.*19.2 victory: Heb. salvation, or, deliverance 3 And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle. 4 But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son! 5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines; 6 In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.*19.6 In…: Heb. 9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom. 10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?*19.10 speak…: Heb. are ye silent?

11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house. 12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king? 13 And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab. 14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants. 15 So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.

16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David. 17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king. 18 And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;*19.18 what…: Heb. the good in his eyes 19 And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart. 20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king. 21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’s anointed? 22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel? 23 Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace. 25 And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth? 26 And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because thy servant is lame. 27 And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes. 28 For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?*19.28 dead…: Heb. men of death 29 And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land. 30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.

31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan. 32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man. 33 And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem. 34 And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?*19.34 How…: Heb. How many days are the years of my life 35 I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king? 36 Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward? 37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee. 38 And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.*19.38 require: Heb. choose 39 And all the people went over Jordan. 41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David’s men with him, over Jordan? 42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift? 43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?
