1 Pedro, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos estrangeiros da Dispersão no Ponto, Galácia, Capadócia, Ásia e Bitínia,2 eleitos segundo a presciência de Deus Pai, na santificação do Espírito, para a obediência e para a aspersão do sangue de Jesus Cristo: Graça e paz vos sejam multiplicadas.3 Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que segundo a sua grande misericórdia nos regenerou para uma viva esperança pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo dentre os mortos,4 para uma herança incorruptível, imaculada e imarcescível, reservada nos céus para vós5 que sois guardados pelo poder de Deus mediante a fé para a salvação prestes a se revelar no último tempo.6 Nela exultais, ainda que agora por um pouco de tempo, sendo necessário, haveis sido entristecidos por várias provações,7 para que a prova da vossa fé, mais preciosa que o ouro que perece, mesmo quando provado pelo fogo, seja achada para louvor, glória e honra na revelação de Jesus Cristo,8 a quem, sem o terdes visto, amais; no qual, sem agora o verdes, mas crendo, exultais com gozo indizível e cheio de glória,9 alcançando o fim da vossa fé, a salvação das vossas almas.10 Desta salvação inquiriram e indagaram muito os profetas que profetizaram acerca da graça que devia vir a vós,11 indagando quando e que tempo era esse que o Espírito de Cristo que estava neles indicava, ao testificar anteriormente os sofrimentos que haviam de vir a Cristo, e as glórias que os seguiriam.12 A eles foi revelado que não para si mesmos, mas para vós, eles administravam estas coisas que agora vos foram anunciadas por aqueles que, pelo Espírito Santo enviado do céu, vos pregaram o Evangelho, para as quais coisas os anjos desejam atentar.13 Por isso cingindo os lombos do vosso entendimento, sede sóbrios e esperai inteiramente na graça que vos está sendo trazida na revelação de Jesus Cristo.14 Como filhos da obediência, não vos conformando com as cobiças que antes tínheis no tempo da vossa ignorância,15 mas assim como é santo aquele que vos chamou, tornai-vos vós também santos em todo o vosso procedimento,16 porquanto está escrito: Sereis santos, porque eu sou santo.17 Se invocais como Pai aquele que, sem se deixar levar de respeitos humanos, julga segundo a obra de cada um, viver em temor durante o tempo da vossa peregrinação,18 sabendo que fostes resgatados das vossas práticas vãs que por tradição recebestes de vossos pais, não por coisas corruptíveis, como o ouro ou a prata,19 mas pelo sangue precioso de Cristo, como de um cordeiro sem defeito e imaculado,20 conhecido, na verdade, antes da fundação do mundo, mas manifestado no fim dos tempos por amor de vós,21 que por ele tendes fé em Deus que o ressuscitou dentre os mortos e lhe deu glória, de modo que a vossa fé e esperança fossem em Deus.22 Uma vez que tendes purificado as vossas almas na vossa obediência à verdade que leva ao amor não fingido dos irmãos, de coração amai-vos uns aos outros ardentemente,23 sendo regenerados, não de semente corruptível, mas de incorruptível, pela palavra de Deus, a qual vive e permanece.24 Pois: Toda a carne é como a erva, E toda a sua glória como a flor da erva; Seca-se a erva, E cai a flor;25 Mas a palavra do Senhor permanece eternamente. Esta é a palavra que vos foi evangelizada.

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers dispersed through Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect,2 According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, unto the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you and peace be multiplied.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 Unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that can not fade, reserved in heaven for you,5 Who, by the power of God, are kept by faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.6 Wherein you shall greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in divers temptations:7 That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ:8 Whom having not seen, you love: in whom also now, though you see him not, you believe: and believing shall rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorified;9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and diligently searched, who prophesied of the grace to come in you.11 Searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them did signify: when it foretold those sufferings that are in Christ, and the glories that should follow:12 To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you they ministered those things which are now declared to you by them that have preached the gospel to you, the Holy Ghost being sent down from heaven, on whom the angels desire to look.13 Wherefore having the loins of your mind girt up, being sober, trust perfectly in the grace which is offered you in the revelation of Jesus Christ,14 As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance:15 But according to him that hath called you, who is holy, be you also in all manner of conversation holy:16 Because it is written: You shall be holy, for I am holy.17 And if you invoke as Father him who, without respect of persons, judgeth according to every one's work: converse in fear during the time of your sojourning here.18 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as gold or silver, from your vain conversation of the tradition of your fathers:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb unspotted and undefiled,20 Foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last times for you,21 Who through him are faithful in God, who raised him up from the dead, and hath given him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.22 Purifying your souls in the obedience of charity, with a brotherly love, from a sincere heart love one another earnestly:23 Being born again not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, by the word of God who liveth and remaineth for ever.24 For all flesh is as grass; and all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass is withered, and the flower thereof is fallen away.25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel hath been preached unto you.
