1 Manassés tinha doze anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou cinqüenta e cinco anos em Jerusalém.2 Fez o mal à vista de Jeová, segundo as abominações dos povos que Jeová expulsou de diante dos filhos de Israel.3 Pois tornou a edificar os altos que Ezequias, seu pai, tinha demolido; levantou altares para os Baalins, fabricou asterotes, adorou a todo o exército do céu, e o serviu.4 Edificou também altares na casa de Jeová, da qual disse Jeová: Em Jerusalém estará eternamente o meu nome.5 Edificou altares a todo o exército do céu nos dois átrios da casa de Jeová.6 Além disso fez passar seus filhos pelo fogo no vale do filho de Hinom. Praticava augúrios, usava de encantamentos, dava-se a artes mágicas e tratava com os que chamavam espíritos e os que tinham espíritos familiares: fez muito mal à vista de Jeová, para o provocar à ira.7 A imagem esculpida do ídolo que tinha feito, ele a colocou na casa de Deus, da qual disse Deus a Davi e a Salomão, seu filho: Nesta casa em Jerusalém, que escolhi de todas as tribos de Israel, estabelecerei o meu nome para sempre,8 nem removerei mais o pé de Israel da terra que destinei para vossos pais; contanto que tenham cuidado de fazer tudo o que lhes ordenei, a saber, toda a lei e os estatutos e as ordenanças, dados por intervenção de Moisés.9 Manassés fez errar a Judá e aos habitantes de Jerusalém, de maneira que fizeram o mal ainda mais do que as nações, que Jeová destruiu de diante dos filhos de Israel.10 Jeová falou a Manassés e ao seu povo, porém não se importaram.11 Pelo que Jeová fez vir sobre eles os capitães do exército do rei da Assíria, os quais o prenderam, e amarraram com grilhões e o levaram para Babilônia.12 Estando em aperto, suplicou a Jeová, seu Deus, e humilhou-se muito diante do Deus de seus pais.13 Orou a ele; Deus aceitou-lhe a petição, ouviu-lhe a súplica e tornou a trazê-lo a Jerusalém, ao seu reino. Então reconheceu Manassés que Jeová era Deus.14 Ora, depois disto edificou um muro do lado de fora da cidade de Davi, ao ocidente de Giom, no vale, até a entrada da porta dos peixes; fê-lo passar ao redor de Ofel, e levantou-o muito alto. Pôs capitães do exército em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá.15 Tirou da casa de Jeová os deuses estranhos e o ídolo, e todos os altares que tinha edificado no monte da casa de Jeová e em Jerusalém, e lançou-os fora da cidade.16 Restituiu o altar de Jeová, ofereceu sobre ele sacrifícios de ofertas pacíficas e de ação de graças e ordenou a Judá que servisse a Jeová, Deus de Israel.17 Contudo o povo ainda sacrificava nos altos, mas tão somente a Jeová, seu Deus.18 Ora o resto dos atos de Manassés, e a sua oração a seu Deus, e as palavras dos videntes que lhe falaram em nome de Jeová, Deus de Israel, estão escritos nos atos dos reis de Israel.19 Também a sua oração, e como Deus aceitou a sua petição, e todo o seu pecado e a sua transgressão e os lugares em que edificou altos, e colocou os aserins e as imagens esculpidas, antes de se humilhar; eis que estão escritos na história de Hozai.20 Adormeceu Manassés com seus pais, e sepultaram-no na sua casa. Em lugar dele reinou seu filho Amom.21 Tinha Amom vinte e dois anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou dois anos em Jerusalém.22 Fez o mal à vista de Jeová, como fez seu pai Manassés; sacrificou a todas as imagens esculpidas que Manassés, seu pai, tinha feito, e as serviu.23 Não se humilhou diante de Jeová, como seu pai Manassés se tinha humilhado, mas este Amom transgrediu mais e mais.24 Tendo os seus servos conspirado contra ele, tiraram-lhe a vida na sua casa.25 Mas o povo da terra matou a todos os que conspiraram contra o rei Amom, e fez reinar em lugar dele seu filho Josias.

1 Manasses was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.2 And he did evil before the Lord, according to all the abominations of the nations, which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel:3 And he turned, and built again the high places which Ezechias his father had destroyed: and he built altars to Baalim, and made groves, and he adored all the host of heaven, and worshipped them.4 He built also altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said: In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.5 And he built them for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.6 And he made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of Benennom: he observed dreams, followed divinations, gave himself up to magic arts, had with him magicians, and enchanters: and he wrought many evils before the Lord, to provoke him to anger.7 He set also a graven, and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.8 And I will not make the foot of Israel to be removed out of the land which I have delivered to their fathers: yet so if they will take heed to do what I hare commanded them, and all the law, and the ceremonies, and judgments by the hand of Moses.9 So Manasses seduced Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to do evil beyond all the nations, which the Lord had destroyed before the face of the children of Israel.10 And the Lord spoke to him, and to his people, and they would not hearken.11 Therefore he brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of the Assyrians: and they took Manasses, and carried him bound with chains and fetters to Babylon.12 And after that he was in distress he prayed to the Lord his God: and did penance exceedingly before the God of his fathers.13 And he entreated him, and besought him earnestly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom, and Manasses knew that the Lord was God.14 After this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon in the valley, from the entering in of the fish gate round about to Ophel, and raised it up to a great height: and he appointed captains of the army in all the fenced cities of Juda:15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord: the altars also which he had made in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and he cast them all out of the city.16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed upon it victims, and peace offerings, and praise: and he commanded Juda to serve the Lord the God of Israel.17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed in the high places to the Lord their God.18 But the rest of the acts of Manasses, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the Lord the God of Israel, are contained in the words of the kings of Israel.19 His prayer also, and his being heard, and all his sins, and contempt, and places wherein he built high places, and set up groves, and statues before he did penance, are written in the words of Hozai.20 And Manasses slept with his fathers. and they buried him in his house: and his son Amen reigned in his stead.21 Amen was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.22 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as Manasses his father had done: and he sacrificed to all the idols which Manasses his father had made, and served them.23 And he did not humble himself before the Lord, as Manasses his father had humbled himself, but committed far greater sins.24 And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.25 But the rest of the multitude of the people slew them that had killed Amen, and made Josias his son king in his stead.
