1 Então falou Salomão: Jeová disse que habitaria em escuridão.2 Eu, porém, te edifiquei uma casa para morada, e um lugar em que habites para sempre.3 O rei virou o rosto, e abençoou toda a congregação de Israel, que estava em pé.4 Ele disse: Bendito seja Jeová, Deus de Israel, que falou pela sua boca a meu pai Davi e executou com as suas mãos o que disse:5 Desde o dia em que tirei da terra do Egito o meu povo, não escolhi de todas as tribos de Israel nenhuma cidade para nela edificar uma casa em que estivesse o meu nome, nem escolhi homem algum para ser príncipe sobre o meu povo de Israel;6 mas escolhi a Jerusalém para que ali estivesse o meu nome, e escolhi a Davi para ser ele sobre o meu povo de Israel.7 Ora, era a intenção de meu pai Davi edificar uma casa ao nome de Jeová, Deus de Israel.8 Porém Jeová disse a Davi, meu pai: Já que tiveste a intenção de edificar uma casa ao meu nome, fizeste bem em teres esta intenção;9 todavia tu não edificarás a casa, porém teu filho que sairá dos teus lombos edificará a casa ao meu nome.10 Assim cumpriu Jeová a palavra que falou; porque fui suscitado em lugar de meu pai Davi, assento-me sobre o trono de Israel, como prometeu Jeová, e edifiquei a casa ao nome de Jeová, Deus de Israel.11 Nela pus a arca, em que se acha a aliança que Jeová fez com os filhos de Israel.12 Conservou-se Salomão em pé perante o altar de Jeová na presença de toda a congregação de Israel, e estendeu as mãos.13 (Salomão tinha feito uma plataforma de bronze de cinco cúbitos de comprido, cinco de largo e três de alto, que tinha colocado no meio do átrio; pôs-se em pé sobre ele e, posto de joelhos perante toda a congregação de Israel, estendeu as mãos para o céu),14 e disse: Jeová, Deus de Israel, não há Deus semelhante a ti nem no céu nem na terra, a ti que observas a aliança e a misericórdia para com os teus servos que andam diante de ti de todo o seu coração;15 que cumpriste ao teu servo Davi, meu pai, o que lhe prometeste; sim, falaste pela tua boca e o executaste com as tuas mãos, como se vê neste dia.16 Agora cumpre ao teu servo Davi, meu pai, o que lhe prometeste, dizendo: Não te faltará varão diante de mim, que se assente no trono de Israel; desde que teus filhos guardem os seus caminhos e andem na minha lei, como tu andaste diante de mim.17 Agora Jeová, Deus de Israel, verifique-se a tua palavra, que falaste ao teu servo Davi.18 Mas, na verdade, habitará Deus com os homens na terra? eis que o céu e o céu dos céus te não podem conter, quanto menos esta casa que edifiquei?19 Contudo atende, Jeová meu Deus, à oração do teu servo, e à sua súplica, para ouvires o clamor e a oração que o teu servo faz diante de ti;20 a fim de que de dia e de noite estejam os teus olhos abertos para esta casa, para o lugar de que disseste que ali porias o teu nome; para ouvires a oração que o teu servo fizer neste lugar.21 Ouve as súplicas que o teu servo e o teu povo de Israel fizerem neste lugar: ouve da tua morada, do céu; e quando ouvires, perdoa.22 Se alguém pecar contra o seu próximo, e lhe for imposto um juramento para o fazer jurar, e ele vier e jurar diante do teu altar neste lugar;23 ouve do céu, move-te e julga os teus servos, pagando ao ímpio, para lhe fazeres recair sobre a cabeça o seu proceder; e justificando ao reto, para lhe dares segundo a sua retidão.24 Se o teu povo de Israel for derrotado pelo inimigo, por terem pecado contra ti; e se converterem e confessarem o teu nome e orarem e fizerem súplicas diante de ti nesta casa;25 ouve do céu, perdoa o pecado do teu povo de Israel, e torna a levá-los para a terra que lhes deste a eles e a seus pais.26 Quando for fechado o céu, e não houver chuva, por terem pecado contra ti; se orarem neste lugar, e confessarem o teu nome e se converterem do seu pecado, quando os afligires;27 ouve do céu e perdoa o pecado dos teus servos e do teu povo de Israel, ensinando-lhes o bom caminho em que andem; e envia chuva sobre a terra que deste ao teu povo em herança.28 Se houver na terra fome, ou peste, se houver crestamento ou mangra, gafanhoto ou lagarta; se os seus inimigos os sitiarem na terra das suas cidades; seja qual for a praga ou seja qual for a enfermidade;29 toda a oração e toda a súplica que alguém fizer, ou fizer todo o teu povo, conhecendo cada um a sua praga e a sua dor, e estendendo as suas mãos para esta casa;30 ouve do céu, da tua morada, perdoa e dá a cada um conforme todos os seus caminhos, de quem conheces o coração (pois tu, só tu conheces os corações dos filhos dos homens);31 para que temam, andando nos teus caminhos, todos os dias que viverem na terra, que deste a nossos pais.32 Também quanto ao estrangeiro, que não é do teu povo de Israel, quando vier de um país remoto por amor do teu grande nome, e da tua mão poderosa, e do teu braço estendido (vindo eles e orando nesta casa);33 ouve do céu, da tua morada, e faze tudo conforme o que o estrangeiro te suplicar, para que todos os povos da terra conheçam o teu nome, e te temam, como faz o teu povo de Israel, e para que saibam que o teu nome foi invocado sobre esta casa que edifiquei.34 Se o teu povo sair à guerra contra os seus inimigos, seja qual for o caminho por que os enviares, e orarem a ti voltados para esta cidade que escolheste, e para a casa que edifiquei ao teu nome;35 ouve do céu a sua oração e a sua súplica e defende a sua causa.36 Se pecarem contra ti (pois não há homem que não peque), e te irares contra eles, e os entregares ao inimigo, de modo que os levem cativos para uma terra remota ou vizinha;37 todavia se caírem em si na terra para onde forem levados cativos, e se converterem e fizerem súplicas a ti na terra do seu cativeiro, dizendo: Pecamos, procedemos perversamente, praticamos a iniqüidade;38 se voltarem para ti de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma na terra do seu cativeiro, para a qual tenham sido levados cativos, e orarem voltados para a sua terra, que deste a seus pais, e para a cidade que escolheste e para a casa que edifiquei ao teu nome:39 ouve do céu, da tua morada, a sua oração e as suas súplicas, defende a sua causa e perdoa ao teu povo que pecou contra ti.40 Agora, Deus meu, abram-se os teus olhos, e sejam atentos os teus ouvidos à oração que se fizer neste lugar.41 Agora levanta-te, Deus Jeová, e entra no lugar do teu descanso, tu e a arca da tua fortaleza: sejam os teus sacerdotes, Deus Jeová, vestidos da salvação, e alegrem-se os teus santos na bondade.42 Não vires, Deus Jeová, o rosto do teu ungido; lembra-te das misericórdias que usaste para com o teu servo Davi.

1 Then Solomon said: The Lord promised that he would dwell in a cloud.2 But I have built a house to his name, that he might dwell there for ever.3 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the multitude of Israel (for all the multitude stood attentive) and he said:4 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath accomplished in deed that which he spoke to David my father, saying:5 From the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel, for a house to be built in it to my name: neither chose I any other man, to be the ruler of my people Israel.6 But I chose Jerusalem, that my name might be there: and I chose David to set him over my people Israel.7 And whereas David my father had a mind to build a house to the name of the Lord the God of Israel,8 The Lord said to him: Forasmuch as it was thy will to build a house to my name, thou hast done well indeed in having such a will:9 But thou shalt not build the house, but thy son, who shall come out of thy loins, he shall build a house to my name.10 The Lord therefore hath accomplished his word which he spoke: and I am risen up in the place of David my father, and sit upon the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised : and have built a house to the name of the Lord God of Israel.11 And I have put in it the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with the children of Israel.12 And he stood before the altar of the I Lord, in presence of all the multitude of Israel, and stretched forth his hands.13 For Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, and had set it in the midst of the temple, which was five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high: and he stood upon it: then kneeling down in the presence of all the multitude of Israel, and lifting up his hands towards heaven,14 He said: O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven nor in earth: who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:15 Who hast performed to thy servant David my father all that thou hast promised him: and hast accomplished in fact, what thou hast spoken with thy mouth, as also the present time proveth.16 Now then, O Lord God of Israel, fulfil to thy servant David my father, whatsoever thou hast promised him, saying: There shall not fail thee a man in my sight, to sit upon the throne of Israel: yet so that thy children take heed to their ways, and walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.17 And now, Lord God of Israel, let thy word be established which thou hast spoken to thy servant David.18 Is it credible then that God should dwell with men on the earth? If heaven and the heavens of heavens do not contain thee, how much less this house, which I have built?19 But to this end only it is made, that thou mayest regard the prayer of thy servant and his supplication, O Lord my God: and mayest hear the prayers which thy servant poureth out before thee.20 That thou mayest open thy eyes upon this house day and night, upon the place wherein thou hast promised that thy name should be called upon,21 And that thou wouldst hear the prayer which thy servant prayeth in it: hearken then to the prayers of thy servant, and of thy people Israel. Whosoever shall pray in this place, hear thou from thy dwelling place, that is, from heaven, and shew mercy.22 If any man sin against his neighbour, and come to swear against him, and bind himself with a curse before the altar in this house:23 Then hear thou from heaven, and do justice to thy servants, so as to requite the wicked by making his wickedness fall upon his own head, and to revenge the just, rewarding him according to his justice.24 If thy people Israel be overcome by their enemies, (for they will sin against thee,) and being converted shall do penance, and call upon thy name, and pray to thee in this place,25 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back into the land, which thou gavest to them, and their fathers.26 If the heavens be shut up, and there fall no rain by reason of the sine of the people, and they shall pray to thee in this place, and confess to thy name, and be converted from their sins, when thou dost afflict them,27 Then hear thou from heaven, O Lord, and forgive the sine of thy servants and of thy people Israel, and teach them the good way, in which they may walk: and give rain to thy land which thou hast given to thy people to possess.28 If a famine arise in the land, or a pestilence or blasting, or mildew, or locusts, or caterpillars: or if their enemies waste the country, and besiege the cities, whatsoever scourge or infirmity shall be upon them:29 Then if any of thy people Israel, knowing his own scourge and infirmity shall pray, and shall spread forth his hands in this house,30 Hear thou from heaven, from thy high dwelling place, and forgive, and render to every one according to his ways, which thou knowest him to have in his heart: (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)31 That they may fear thee, and walk in thy ways all the days that they live upon the face of the land, which thou hast given to our fathers.32 If the stranger also, who is not of thy people Israel, come from a far country, for the sake of thy great name, and thy strong hand, and thy stretched out arm, and adore in this place:33 Hear thou from heaven thy firm dwelling place, and do all that which that stranger shall call upon thee for: that all the people of the earth may know thy name, and may fear thee, as thy people Israel, and may know, that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.34 If thy people go out to war against their enemies, by the way that thou shalt send them, and adore thee towards the way of this city, which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built to thy name:35 Then hear thou from heaven their prayers, and their supplications, and revenge them.36 And if they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them up to their enemies, and they lead them away captive to a land either afar off, or near at hand,37 And if they be converted in their heart in the land to which they were led / captive, and do penance, and pray to thee in the land of their captivity, saying: We have sinned, we have done wickedly, we have dealt unjustly:38 And return to thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their captivity, to which they were led away, and adore thee towards the way of their own land which thou gavest their fathers, and of the city, which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built to thy name:39 Then hear thou from heaven, that is, from thy firm dwelling place, their prayers, and do judgment, and forgive thy people, although they have sinned:40 For thou art my God: let thy eyes, I beseech thee, be open, and let thy ears be attentive to the prayer, that is made in this place.41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, put on salvation, and thy saints rejoice in good things.42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thy anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.
