1 Chamou Moisés a todo o Israel, e disse-lhes: Ouve, ó Israel, os estatutos e os juízos que eu hoje vos falo aos ouvidos, para que os aprendais e cuideis em os cumprirdes.2 Jeová nosso Deus fez uma aliança conosco em Horebe.3 Não com os nossos pais fez Jeová esta aliança, mas conosco, sim conosco, que somos todos nós aqui vivos este dia.4 Face a face falou Jeová convosco no monte do meio do fogo5 (estando eu nesse tempo entre Jeová e vós, para vos anunciar a palavra de Jeová; pois tivestes medo por causa do fogo, e não subistes o monte). Ele disse:6 Eu sou Jeová teu Deus, que te tirei da terra do Egito, da casa de servidão.7 Não terás outros deuses diante de mim.8 Não farás para ti imagem de escultura, forma alguma do que há em cima no céu, ou em baixo na terra, ou nas águas debaixo da terra.9 Não as adorarás, nem lhes darás culto; porque eu, Jeová teu Deus, sou Deus zeloso, que visito a iniqüidade dos pais nos filhos, na terceira e quarta geração daqueles que me aborrecem;10 e que uso de misericórdia para com milhares dos que me amam e guardam os meus mandamentos.11 Não tomarás o nome de Jeová teu Deus em vão; porque Jeová não terá por inocente ao que tomar o seu nome em vão.12 Observa o dia de sábado, para o santificares, como Jeová teu Deus te ordenou.13 Seis dias trabalharás, e farás tudo o que tens para fazer;14 mas o sétimo dia é sábado para Jeová teu Deus. Nele não farás obra alguma nem tu, nem teu filho, nem tua filha, nem o teu servo, nem a tua serva, nem o teu boi, nem o teu jumento, nem animal algum teu, nem o teu estrangeiro que vive de tuas portas para dentro; a fim de que descanse teu servo e tua serva bem como tu.15 Lembrar-te-ás que foste servo na terra do Egito, e que de lá te tirou Jeová teu Deus com mão poderosa e com braço estendido; portanto Jeová teu Deus te ordenou que observasses o dia de sábado.16 Honrarás a teu pai e a tua mãe como Jeová teu Deus te ordenou, para que se prolonguem os teus dias, e para que te vá bem na terra que Jeová teu Deus te dá.17 Não matarás.18 Não adulterarás.19 Não furtarás.20 Não dirás testemunho falso contra o teu próximo.21 Não cobiçarás a mulher do teu próximo; não desejarás a casa do teu próximo, nem o seu campo, nem o seu servo, nem a sua serva, nem o seu boi, nem o seu jumento, nem coisa alguma que lhe pertença.22 Estas palavras falou Jeová a toda a vossa assembléia no monte do meio do fogo, da nuvem, e da escuridade, com grande voz; e nada mais acrescentou. Tendo-as escrito em duas tábuas de pedra, deu-mas a mim.23 Quando ouvistes a voz do meio das trevas, enquanto ardia o monte em fogo, viestes ter comigo, a saber, todos os cabeças das vossas tribos, e os vossos anciãos;24 e dissestes: Eis que Jeová nosso Deus nos fez ver a sua glória e a sua grandeza, e ouvimos a sua voz do meio do fogo; hoje vimos que Deus fala com o homem, e este continua a viver.25 Agora, pois, porque havemos de morrer? Este grande fogo nos consumirá; se nós tornarmos a ouvir a voz de Jeová nosso Deus, morreremos.26 Pois quem há de toda a carne, que tenha ouvido a voz do Deus vivente falar do meio do fogo, como nós a ouvimos, e tenha continuado a viver?27 Tu chega-te mais, e ouve tudo o que Jeová nosso Deus disser; tu nos falarás tudo o que Jeová nosso Deus te falar a ti, e ouvindo-o, o cumpriremos.28 Ouviu Jeová a voz das vossas palavras, quando me faláveis a mim, e disse-me Jeová: Eu ouvi a voz das palavras deste povo, que eles falaram: falaram bem em tudo quanto disseram.29 Quem dera que eles tivessem tal coração, que me temessem, e guardassem em todo o tempo todos os meus mandamentos, para que lhes fosse bem a eles, e a seus filhos para sempre.30 Vai dizer-lhes: Voltai para as vossas tendas.31 Tu, porém, fica-te aqui comigo, e te direi o mandamento todo, e os estatutos e os juízos, que lhes ensinarás, para que os cumpram na terra que lhes estou dando a fim de a possuírem.32 Cuidareis em fazerdes como Jeová vosso Deus vos ordenou; não vos desviareis nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.33 Andareis em todo o caminho que Jeová vosso Deus vos ordenou, para que vivais, e que vos suceda bem, e para que se prolonguem os vossos dias na terra que haveis de possuir.

1 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the ceremonies and judgments, which I speak in your ears this day: learn them, and fulfil them in work.2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.3 He made not the covenant with our fathers, but with us, who are now present and living.4 He spoke to us face to face in the mount out of the midst of fire.5 I was the mediator and stood between the Lord and you at that time, to shew you his words, for you feared the fire, and went not up into the mountain, and he said:6 I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage7 Thou shalt not have strange gods in my sight.8 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any things, that are in heaven above, or that are in the earth beneath, or that abide in the waters under the earth.9 Thou shalt not adore them, and thou shalt not serve them. For I am the Lord thy God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon their children unto the third and fourth generation, to them that hate me,10 And shewing mercy unto many thousands, to them that love me, and keep my commandments.11 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for he shall not be unpunished that taketh his name upon a vain thing.12 Observe the day of the sabbath, to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.13 Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works.14 The seventh is the day of the sabbath, that is, the rest of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not do any work therein, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant nor thy maidservant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy beasts, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest, even as thyself.15 Remember that thou also didst serve in Egypt, and the Lord thy God brought thee out from thence with a strong hand, and a stretched out arm. Therefore hath he commanded thee that thou shouldst observe the sabbath day.16 Honour thy father and mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, that thou mayst live a long time, and it may be well with thee in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee.17 Thou shalt not kill.18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.19 And thou shalt not steal.20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.21 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife: nor his house, nor his field, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.22 These words the Lord spoke to all the multitude of you in the mountain, out of the midst of the fire and the cloud, and the darkness, with a loud voice, adding nothing more: and he wrote them in two tables of stone, which he delivered unto me.23 But you, after you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and saw the mountain burn, came to me, all the princes of the tribes and the elders, and you said:24 Behold the Lord our God hath shewn us his majesty and his greatness, we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire, and have proved this day that God speaking with man, man hath lived.25 Why shall we die therefore, and why shall this exceeding great Are consume us: for if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we shall die.26 What is all flesh, that it should hear the voice of the living God, who speaketh out of the midst of the fire, as we have heard, and be able to live?27 Approach thou rather: and hear all things that the Lord our God shall say to thee, and thou shalt speak to us, and we will hear and will do them.28 And when the Lord had heard this, he said to me: I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they spoke to thee: they have spoken all things well.29 Who shall give them to have such a mind, to fear me, and to keep all my commandments at all times, that it may be well with them and with their children for ever?30 Go and say to them: Return into your tents.31 But stand thou here with me, and I will speak to thee all my commandments, and ceremonies and judgments: which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land, which I will give them for a possession.32 Keep therefore and do the things which the Lord God hath commanded you: you shall not go aside neither to the right hand, nor to the left.33 But you shall walk in the way that the Lord your God hath commanded, that you may live, and it may be well with you, and your days may be long in the land of your possession.
