Elias prediz uma grande seca e é sustentado pelos corvos

1 Elias, tisbita, que era dos que *Jz 12.4peregrinavam em Gileade, disse a Acabe: *1Rs 18.10;22.14;2Rs 5.20Pela vida de Jeová, Deus de Israel, em cuja presença estou, *1Rs 18.1;Lc 4.25;Tg 5.17não haverá neste ano nem orvalho nem chuva, senão conforme a minha palavra. 2 Veio a ele a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 3 Retira-te daqui, vai para a banda do oriente e esconde-te junto da torrente de Querite, que está defronte do Jordão. 4 Beberás da torrente; eu *1Rs 17.9ordenei aos corvos que te sustentem ali mesmo. 5 Partiu e fez conforme a ordem de Jeová, porque foi e habitou junto da torrente de Querite, que está defronte do Jordão. 6 Os corvos traziam-lhe pela manhã pão e carne, também, de tarde, pão e carne; e ele bebia da torrente. 7 Mas passados dias, secou a torrente, porque não chovia sobre a terra.

Elias ressuscita ao filho da viúva de Sarepta

8 Veio-lhe a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 9 Levanta-te, vai para *Ob 20;Lc 4.26Sarepta, que pertence a Sidom, e ali habita. Eis que *1Rs 17.4ordenei ali a uma mulher viúva que te sustente. 10 Levantou-se e foi para Sarepta. Quando chegou à porta da cidade, estava ali uma mulher viúva apanhando lenha; *Gn 24.17;Jo 4.7ele a chamou e lhe disse: Traze-me, num vaso, um pouco de água para eu beber. 11 Indo ela a trazê-la, ele a chamou e lhe disse: Traze-me também um bocado de pão na tua mão. 12 Ela respondeu: *1Rs 17.1Pela vida de Jeová, teu Deus, *2Rs 4.2-7não tenho pão, senão somente um punhado de farinha no vaso e um pouco de azeite na almotolia. Eis que ando apanhando uns gravetos para ir prepará-lo para mim e para meu filho, a fim de que o comamos e morramos. 13 Elias disse-lhe: Não temas, vai e faze como disseste; mas primeiro faze dele para mim um pãozinho e traze-mo cá fora; para ti e para teu filho o farás depois. 14 Porque assim diz Jeová, Deus de Israel: A farinha que está no vaso não se acabará, nem o azeite da almotolia faltará, até o dia em que Jeová faça cair chuva sobre a terra. 15 Ela foi e fez conforme a palavra de Elias; comeram ele, e ela, e sua casa muitos dias. 16 A farinha não se acabou no vaso, nem o azeite faltou na almotolia, conforme a palavra que Jeová falou por meio de Elias.

17 Depois dessas coisas, adoeceu o filho da mulher, dona da casa, e a sua doença foi tão grave, que não lhe ficou mais fôlego. 18 Então, disse ela a Elias: *2Sm 16.10;2Rs 3.13;Jo 2.4Que tenho eu contigo, *1Rs 12.22ó homem de Deus? Vieste a mim para trazeres à memória o meu pecado e para matares a meu filho! 19 Ele lhe disse: Dá-me teu filho. Tomou-o do seu regaço, e levou-o para cima, à câmara, onde ele mesmo assistia, e pô-lo em cima do seu leito. 20 Clamou a Jeová e disse: Ó Jeová, meu Deus, trouxeste também o mal sobre a viúva em cuja casa assisto, matando-lhe o filho? 21 *2Rs 4.34-35;At 20.10Estendeu-se sobre o menino três vezes, e clamou a Jeová, e disse: Ó Jeová, meu Deus, faze que a alma deste menino torne a entrar nele. 22 Jeová ouviu a voz de Elias, e *Hb 11.35a alma do menino tornou a entrar nele, e reviveu. 23 Elias tomou o menino, e desceu-o da sua câmara à casa, e entregou-o à sua mãe, e disse: Vê! Teu filho vive! 24 Então, disse a mulher a Elias: *Jo 2.11;3.2Agora, sei que tu és um homem de Deus e que a palavra de Jeová na tua boca é verdade.

1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.*17.1 Elijah: Heb. Elias 2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. 5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. 7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.*17.7 after…: Heb. at the end of days

8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.*17.9 Zarephath: Gr. Sarepta 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.*17.14 sendeth: Heb. giveth 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.*17.15 many…: or, a full year 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.*17.16 by: Heb. by the hand of

17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. 18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? 19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. 20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.*17.21 stretched: Heb. measured*17.21 into…: Heb. into his inward parts 22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
