Exortação à santidade

1 *2Ts 3.1; vd.2Co 13.11Quanto ao mais, *1Ts 5.12;2Ts 1.3;2.1;1Ts 4.1,13; vd.Gl 6.1irmãos, vos rogamos e exortamos no Senhor Jesus que, como aprendestes de nós de que maneira deveis *vd.Ef 4.1andar *cp.2Co 5.9e agradar a Deus, como estais fazendo, *Fp 1.9;1Ts 3.12; cp.1Ts 4.10;2Ts 1.3abundeis cada vez mais. 2 Sabeis que preceitos vos demos da parte do Senhor Jesus. 3 Pois esta é a vontade de Deus: a vossa santificação, que vos *vd.1Co 6.18abstenhais da fornicação, 4 que *1Co 7.2,9cada um de vós saiba possuir o seu *1Pe 3.7; cp.2Co 4.7vaso em santidade e *cp.Rm 1.24honra, 5 não na *cp.Rm 1.26paixão da concupiscência, assim como fazem os gentios *vd.Gl 4.8que não conhecem a Deus; 6 e que ninguém transgrida e *cp.1Co 6.8defraude *2Co 7.11nisso a seu irmão, porque o *Hb 13.4; cp.Rm 12.19;13.4Senhor é vingador de todas essas coisas, como antes vo-lo dissemos e *vd.Lc 16.28;1Ts 2.11;Hb 2.6testificamos. 7 Pois *1Pe 1.15Deus não nos chamou para *1Ts 2.3imundícia, mas em santificação. 8 Assim, quem repele isso não repele ao homem, mas a Deus, que vos *Rm 5.5;2Co 1.22;Gl 4.6;1Jo 3.24dá o seu Espírito Santo.

Exortação ao amor fraternal

9 Acerca do *vd.Jo 13.34;Rm 12.10amor fraternal, não *1Ts 5.1; cp.2Co 9.1tendes necessidade de que se vos escreva, visto que vós mesmos estais *Jo 6.45;1Jo 2.27; cp.Jr 31.33s.instruídos por Deus em amar-vos uns aos outros; 10 pois é certo que *vd.1Ts 1.7o fazeis para com todos os irmãos em toda a Macedônia. Mas vos exortamos, irmãos, a que nisso *vd.1Ts 3.12abundeis cada vez mais 11 e procureis *2Ts 3.12viver sossegados, *1Pe 4.15tratar dos vossos negócios *Ef 4.28;2Ts 3.10-12; cp.At 18.3e trabalhar com as vossas mãos, como vo-lo mandamos; 12 a fim de que *Rm 13.13;Cl 4.5andeis dignamente para com *vd.Mc 4.11os que estão de fora e *cp.Ef 4.28não tenhais necessidade de coisa alguma.

Acerca da ressurreição dos mortos e da vinda de Cristo

13 *vd.Rm 1.13Não queremos, porém, irmãos, que sejais ignorantes a respeito dos que *vd.At 7.60dormem, para que não vos entristeçais, como fazem *1Ts 5.6; vd.Ef 2.3os demais que *Ef 2.12não têm esperança. 14 Pois, se cremos que Jesus morreu e ressurgiu, *vd.Rm 14.9;2Co 4.14assim também Deus trará com Jesus *1Co 15.18; cp.1Ts 4.15os que nele dormem. 15 Isto vos dizemos *cp.1Rs 13.17s.;20.35;Gl 1.12;2Co 12.1pela palavra do Senhor: que *1Co 15.52; cp.1Ts 5.10nós, os que vivermos, os que formos deixados *vd.1Ts 2.19até a vinda do Senhor, de modo algum, precederemos os que já dormem; 16 porque o Senhor *vd.1Ts 3.11mesmo *2Ts 1.7;1Ts 1.10descerá do céu com *cp.Jl 2.11grande brado, com voz de *cp.Jd 9arcanjo e com *vd.Mt 24.31trombeta de Deus, e *vd.1Co 15.23; cp.2Ts 2.1;Ap 14.13os mortos em Cristo ressuscitarão primeiro. 17 Então, nós, que estivermos vivos e formos deixados, seremos *vd.2Co 12.2arrebatados, *cp.Dn 7.13;At 1.9;Ap 11.12em nuvens, juntamente com eles ao encontro do Senhor nos ares; e, assim, *vd.Jo 12.26ficaremos sempre com o Senhor. 18 Portanto, consolai-vos uns aos outros com essas palavras.

1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: 6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. 7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. 9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. 10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; 11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
