A vinda do Senhor

1 Esta é já, *2Pe 3.8,14,17;1Pe 2.11amados, a segunda carta que vos escrevo; em ambas as quais *2Pe 1.13desperto, com recordações, o vosso ânimo sincero, 2 para que *Jd 17vos lembreis das palavras que dantes foram ditas pelos *Lc 1.70;At 3.21; cp.Ef 3.5santos profetas e do *2Pe 2.21; cp.Gl 6.2;1Tm 6.14mandamento que o Senhor e Salvador vos deu pelos vossos apóstolos, 3 *2Pe 1.20sabendo, primeiro, isto, que *1Tm 4.1; cp.Hb 1.2nos últimos dias, virão *Jd 18escarnecedores com zombarias, *2Pe 2.10andando segundo as suas cobiças 4 e dizendo: *cp.Is 5.19;Jr 17.15;Ez 11.3;12.22,27;Ml 2.17;Mt 24.48Onde está a promessa da sua *cp.2Pe 3.12;1Ts 2.19vinda? Porque, desde que os pais *At 7.60dormiram, tudo permanece como *Mc 10.6desde o princípio da criação. 5 Isto de propósito esquecem: que eram já dantes os céus e a terra que da água e no meio da água *Cl 1.17(Gr.);Sl 24.2;136.6subsiste *Gn 1.6,9;Hb 11.3pela palavra de Deus. 6 Por causa dessas coisas, *Gn 7.21s.pereceu *cp.2Pe 2.5o mundo de então, afogado em água; 7 mas *2Pe 3.10,12os céus que agora existem e a terra, pela mesma palavra, se guardam para *cp.Is 66.15;Dn 7.9s.;2Ts 1.7;Hb 12.29o fogo, reservados até *Mt 10.15;1Co 3.13;Jd 7o Dia do Juízo e da perdição dos homens ímpios.

Essa vinda é certa e será repentina

8 Porém, amados, somente disto não vos deveis esquecer: de que um dia diante do Senhor é como mil anos, e *Sl 90.4mil anos, como um dia. 9 *Hc 2.3;Hb 10.37; cp.Rm 13.11Não retarda o Senhor a sua promessa, como alguns entendem; mas ele *cp.Rm 2.4;Ap 2.21é longânimo para convosco, *1Tm 2.4;Ap 2.21não querendo que alguns pereçam, mas que todos venham ao arrependimento. 10 *1Ts 5.2; cp.Mt 24.43;Ap 3.3;16.15Mas virá como ladrão *1Co 1.8o Dia do Senhor, em que os céus *Mt 24.35;Ap 21.1passarão com grande estrondo, *Is 34.4; cp.Is 24.19;Mq 1.4, etc.;Gl 4.3os elementos, com o calor, se dissolverão, *2Pe 3.7e a terra e as obras que nela há serão descobertas. 11 Uma vez que todas essas coisas hão de ser assim dissolvidas, quais vos convém ser em santo procedimento e piedade, 12 *1Co 1.7esperando e desejando ardentemente a vinda do Dia de Deus, pelo qual *2Pe 3.7,10os céus, ardendo, se dissolverão, e *2Pe 3.10os elementos, com o calor, se fundirão? 13 Mas nós, segundo a sua *Is 65.17;66.22promessa, esperamos *Ap 21.1; cp.Rm 8.21novos céus e uma nova terra, *Is 60.21;65.25; cp.Ap 21.27nos quais habita a justiça.

A perfeição. O ideal do cristão

14 *cp.2Pe 1.10;1Co 15.58Por isso, *2Pe 3.1amados, visto que estais esperando essas coisas, procurai diligentemente que por ele sejais *cp.1Pe 1.7achados *Fp 2.15;1Tm 6.14;Tg 1.27;1Ts 5.23imaculados e irrepreensíveis, em paz; 15 e tende por salvação a *2Pe 3.9longanimidade de nosso Senhor, como o *cp.At 9.17;15.25;2Pe 3.2nosso amado irmão Paulo vos escreveu, *1Co 3.10;Ef 3.3segundo a sabedoria que lhe foi dada, 16 como faz também em todas as suas epístolas, nelas falando *cp.2Pe 3.14disso, *cp.Hb 5.11nas quais há algumas coisas difíceis de entender, que os indoutos e *2Pe 2.14inconstantes torcem, como o fazem também com as *cp.Is 28.13;2Pe 3.2demais Escrituras, para a sua perdição. 17 Vós, portanto, amados, sabendo isso de antemão, *1Co 10.12acautelai-vos, para que não suceda que, levados pelo *cp.2Pe 2.18erro dos *2Pe 2.7insubordinados, *Ap 2.5caiais da vossa firmeza; 18 mas crescei na graça e no *2Pe 1.2conhecimento de *2Pe 1.11;2.20nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. *Rm 11.36; cp.2Tm 4.18;Ap 1.6A ele seja dada a glória, tanto agora como até o dia da eternidade.

1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
