Davi recebe notícia da batalha de Gilboa

1 Sucedeu, depois da *1Sm 31.6morte de Saul, que, voltando Davi de *1Sm 30.1,17,26ferir os amalequitas e estando já dois dias em Ziclague, 2 ao terceiro dia, veio do arraial de Saul *2Sm 4.10um homem *1Sm 4.12com os vestidos rasgados e a cabeça coberta de terra. Tanto que chegou a Davi, *1Sm 25.23prostrou-se em terra e fez-lhe uma reverência. 3 Perguntou-lhe Davi: Donde vens? Ele lhe respondeu: Escapei do arraial de Israel. 4 Disse-lhe Davi: *1Sm 4.16Como foi lá isso? Rogo-te que mo digas. Ele respondeu: O povo fugiu da batalha, e muitos caíram e morreram; Saul e seu filho Jônatas também pereceram. 5 Disse Davi ao moço que lhe dava essas novas: Como sabes que são mortos Saul e seu filho Jônatas? 6 Respondeu o moço que lhe dava a notícia: Achei-me, por acaso, sobre *1Sm 28.4;31.6o monte de Gilboa; eis que *1Sm 31.2-4Saul se firmava sobre a sua lança, e os carros e os cavaleiros se avizinhavam dele. 7 Olhando ele para trás, viu-me e chamou-me. Eu disse: Eis-me aqui. 8 Ele me perguntou: Quem és tu? Eu lhe respondi: *1Sm 15.3;30.1,13,17Sou amalequita. 9 Ele me disse: Chega-te a mim e mata-me, pois sinto-me tomado duma vertigem, porque toda a minha vida ainda está em mim. 10 Cheguei-me a ele e *Jz 9.54matei-o, pois bem sabia que ele não podia viver depois que tinha caído. *2Rs 11.12Tomei a coroa que estava na sua cabeça e o bracelete do seu braço e trouxe-os aqui ao meu senhor.

11 Então, *Gn 37.29,34pegou Davi nos seus vestidos e os rasgou, e assim fizeram todos os homens que estavam com ele. 12 Prantearam, choraram e *2Sm 3.35jejuaram até a tarde por Saul, e por Jônatas, seu filho, e pelo povo de Jeová, e pela casa de Israel, porque haviam caído à espada. 13 Davi perguntou ao moço que lhe trouxera a notícia: Donde és tu? Respondeu ele: *2Sm 1.8Eu sou filho de um peregrino amalequita. 14 Davi disse-lhe: Como não tiveste medo *1Sm 24.6;26.9,11,16de estender a mão para matares ao ungido de Jeová? 15 Então, chamou Davi a um dos seus moços e lhe disse: Vai e lança-te sobre ele. Ele *2Sm 4.10,12o feriu, de sorte que morreu. 16 Disse-lhe Davi: *2Sm 3.28-29O teu sangue caia sobre a tua cabeça, porque a tua *2Sm 1.10;Lc 19.22própria boca deu testemunho contra ti, dizendo: Eu matei o ungido de Jeová.

17 Fez *2Cr 35.25Davi este cântico fúnebre sobre Saul e sobre seu filho 18 (ordenou que ensinassem aos filhos de Judá o cântico do arco), o qual está escrito no *Js 10.13livro de Jasar.

1 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag; 2 It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance. 3 And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped. 4 And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.*1.4 How…: Heb. 11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him: 12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

13 And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. 14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed? 15 And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. 16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’s anointed.

17 And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son: 18 (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)*1.18 of Jasher: or, of the upright 19 The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen! 20 Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. 21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil. 22 From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty. 23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.*1.23 pleasant: or, sweet 24 Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put on ornaments of gold upon your apparel. 25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places. 26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. 27 How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
