Os acontecimentos que devem preceder a vinda de Cristo. O mistério da iniquidade

1 Quanto à *vd.1Ts 2.19vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e à nossa *Mc 13.27; cp.1Ts 4.15-17reunião com ele, nós vos rogamos, *vd.2Ts 1.3irmãos, 2 que não vos movais facilmente do vosso modo de pensar, nem tampouco vos perturbeis, nem por *cp.1Co 14.32;1Jo 4.1espírito, nem por *2Ts 2.15; cp.1Ts 5.2palavra, nem por *cp.2Ts 3.17epístola como enviada de nós, como se *vd.1Co 1.8o Dia do Senhor *cp.1Co 7.26estivesse já perto. 3 *cp.Ef 5.6Ninguém de modo algum vos engane; porque o dia não chegará sem que venha primeiro *vd.1Tm 4.1a apostasia e seja revelado *2Ts 2.8; cp.Dn 7.25;8.25;11.36;Ap 13.5ss.o homem da iniquidade, *cp.Jo 17.12o filho da perdição, 4 aquele que se opõe e se levanta contra tudo o *cp.1Co 8.5que se chama Deus ou é objeto de adoração, de sorte que se assenta no santuário de Deus,*cp.Is 14.14;Ez 28.2 ostentando-se como Deus. 5 Não vos lembrais que eu vos dizia essas coisas, *cp.1Ts 3.4quando ainda estava convosco? 6 Agora, sabeis *2Ts 2.7aquilo que o detém, a fim de que seja revelado a seu tempo. 7 Pois *cp.Ap 17.5,7o mistério da iniquidade já opera; somente até que seja removido aquele que agora o detém. 8 Então, será revelado o iníquo, a quem o Senhor Jesus matará *Is 11.4; cp.Ap 2.16;19.15com o assopro da sua boca e destruirá com a *1Tm 6.14;2Tm 1.10;4.1,8;Tt 2.13manifestação da sua vinda. 9 A vinda desse ímpio é segundo a operação de *vd.Mt 4.10Satanás, com todo poder, 10 e com *Mt 24.24; vd.Jo 4.48sinais, e com prodígios mentirosos, e com toda sedução da injustiça para *vd.1Co 1.18aqueles que perecem, porque não receberam o amor da *2Ts 2.12; cp.2Ts 2.13verdade, a fim de serem salvos. 11 Por isso, lhes *Rm 1.28; cp.1Rs 22.22envia Deus a operação do *cp.1Ts 2.3;2Tm 4.4erro, para que deem crédito à mentira, 12 a fim de que sejam julgados todos os que *Rm 2.8não deram crédito à verdade; antes, *vd.Rm 1.32; cp.1Co 13.6tiveram prazer na injustiça.

De novo, dá graças a Deus e ora por eles

13 *vd.2Ts 1.3Mas nós devemos sempre dar graças a Deus por vós, *1Ts 1.4irmãos amados do Senhor, porque *vd.Ef 1.4ss.Deus vos escolheu desde o princípio *1Ts 5.9; cp.1Ts 2.12;1Pe 1.5;1Co 1.21para salvação, *1Pe 1.2;1Ts 4.7na santificação do Espírito e na fé da verdade, 14 ao, qual estado vos *1Ts 2.12chamou pelo *vd.1Ts 1.5nosso evangelho, para alcançardes a glória de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. 15 Assim, pois, irmãos, *vd.1Co 16.13estai firmes e *1Co 11.2; cp.2Ts 3.6conservai as tradições que aprendestes, seja *2Ts 2.2por palavra, seja por epístola nossa.

16 *vd.1Ts 3.11O mesmo *cp.1Ts 3.11nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e Deus, nosso Pai, que *vd.Jo 3.16nos amou e nos deu eterna consolação e *Tt 3.7;1Pe 1.3boa esperança, pela graça, 17 *1Ts 3.2,13console os vossos corações e *2Ts 3.3os confirme em toda boa obra e palavra.

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. 16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
