A terrível carestia causada pelo gafanhoto e pela seca

Acaso, tem isto acontecido *Jl 2.2;Jr 30.7em vossos dias ou nos dias de vossos pais? 3 *Êx 10.2;Sl 78.4Fazei sobre isto uma narração a vossos filhos, e vossos filhos façam o mesmo a seus filhos, e os filhos destes, à geração futura. 4 O gafanhoto comeu o que a *Jl 2.25;Am 4.9lagarta deixou; *Na 3.15-16e o brugo comeu o que o *Is 33.4gafanhoto deixou; e o hasil comeu o que o brugo deixou.

5 Despertai-vos, *Jl 3.3bêbados, e chorai; uivai, todos os bebedores de vinho, por causa do vinho doce; pois está ele *Jl 1.7,12tirado da vossa boca. 6 Pois sobre a minha terra é vinda uma *Jl 2.2,11,25nação forte e inumerável; os seus dentes são os dentes dum leão, e tem os queixais duma leoa. 7 *Am 4.9Fez da minha vide uma assolação, tirou a casca à minha figueira; despiu-a toda e lançou-a por terra; os seus ramos fizeram-se brancos.

Pois o *Jl 2.1,11,31Dia de Jeová está perto e como *Is 13.6;Ez 7.2-12destruição virá do Todo-Poderoso. 16 Acaso, não está cortado *Is 3.7;Am 4.6-7o mantimento de diante dos nossos olhos, sim, da Casa do nosso Deus a *Dt 12.6-7;Sl 43.4alegria e o regozijo? 17 *Is 17.10-11As sementes apodrecem debaixo dos seus torrões; os celeiros estão destruídos, os armazéns, derribados; porque se murchou o trigo. 18 Como gemem os *1Rs 18.5;Jr 12.4;14.5-6;Os 4.3animais! Perplexas estão as manadas do gado, porque não têm pasto; os rebanhos das ovelhas estão desolados. 19 *Sl 50.15;Mq 7.7A ti, Jeová, clamo, porque *Jr 9.10;Am 7.4o fogo devorou os pastos do deserto, e a chama abrasou todas as árvores do campo. 20 Os animais do campo *Jl 1.18;Sl 104.21;147.9suspiram por ti; porque *1Rs 17.7;18.5as correntes de água se secaram, e o fogo devorou os pastos do deserto.

1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. 2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? 3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. 4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.*1.4 That which the palmerworm…: Heb. 8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. 9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’s ministers, mourn. 10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. 11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. 12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. 13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,*1.14 solemn…: or, day of restraint 15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.*1.17 seed: Heb. grains 18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. 19 O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.*1.19 pastures: or, habitations 20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
