Jesus em Getsêmani

1 Depois de assim falar, *Mt 26.30,36;Mc 14.26,32;Lc 22.39saiu Jesus com seus discípulos para o outro lado *2Sm 15.23;1Rs 2.37;15.13;2Rs 23.4,6,12;2Cr 15.16;29.16;30.14;Jr 31.40do ribeiro de Cedrom, onde havia *Mt 26.36;Mc 14.32;Jo 18.26um jardim; e aí entrou com seus discípulos. 2 Judas, que o traía, também conhecia o lugar, porque Jesus ali *cp.Lc 21.37;22.39estivera muitas vezes com seus discípulos. 3 *Jo 18.3-11;Mt 26.47-56;Mc 14.43-50;Lc 22.47-53Judas, portanto, tendo recebido a *Jo 18.12;At 10.1coorte e alguns *Jo 7.32;Jo 18.12,18oficiais de justiça dos principais sacerdotes e dos fariseus, chegou a esse lugar com lanternas, *Mt 25.1archotes e armas. 4 Jesus, *cp.Jo 6.64;13.1,11sabendo tudo o que lhe ia acontecer, adiantou-se e perguntou-lhes: *Jo 18.7A quem buscais? 5 Eles lhe responderam: A Jesus, o Nazareno. Disse-lhes Jesus: Sou eu. Judas, que o traía, estava também com eles. 6 Logo que Jesus lhes disse: Sou eu, recuaram e caíram por terra. 7 Jesus, de novo, perguntou-lhes: A quem buscais? Eles responderam: A Jesus, o Nazareno. 8 Disse-lhes Jesus: Já vos declarei que sou eu; se é a mim, pois, que buscais, deixai ir estes, 9 para se cumprirem as palavras que ele dissera: *Jo 17.12Não perdi nenhum dos que me deste. 10 Simão Pedro, *cp.Mt 26.51;Mc 14.47que tinha uma espada, puxou dela e, dando um golpe no servo do sumo sacerdote, decepou-lhe a orelha direita; e o servo chamava-se Malco. 11 Jesus disse a Pedro: Mete a tua espada na bainha; não hei de beber *Mt 20.22o cálice que o Pai me deu?

Jesus perante Anás

12 *Jo 18.12s.; cp.Mt 26.57ss.Assim a *Jo 18.3coorte, o tribuno*Comandante de mil soldados. e *Jo 18.3os oficiais de justiça dos judeus prenderam a Jesus, maniataram-no 13 e conduziram-no primeiramente *Jo 18.24;Lc 3.2a Anás, pois era sogro de *Mt 26.3;Jo 11.49,51Caifás, sumo sacerdote naquele ano; 14 era Caifás quem aconselhara aos judeus que *Jo 11.50convinha morrer um homem pelo povo.

Pedro nega a Jesus

15 *cp.Mt 26.58;Mc 14.54;Lc 22.54Simão Pedro e um outro discípulo seguiam a Jesus. Sendo esse discípulo conhecido do sumo sacerdote, entrou *Mt 26.3;Jo 18.24,28no pátio da casa deste com Jesus; 16 *Jo 18.16-18;Mt 26.69s.;Mc 14.66-68;Lc 22.55-57Pedro, porém, ficou de fora, à porta. Saindo, pois, o outro discípulo, que era conhecido do sumo sacerdote, falou com a porteira e levou a Pedro para dentro. 17 Então, *At 12.13a criada que guardava a porta perguntou a Pedro: *Jo 18.25Não és tu também um dos discípulos deste homem? Não sou, respondeu ele. 18 Ora, os servos e os *Jo 18.3oficiais de justiça estavam ali, *cp.Mc 14.54,67tendo acendido *Jo 21.9um braseiro por causa do frio, e aquentavam-se. Pedro estava também no meio deles, aquentando-se.

Anás interroga a Jesus

19 *Jo 18.19-24; cp.Mt 26.59-68;Mc 14.55-65;Lc 22.63-71Então, o sumo sacerdote interrogou a Jesus acerca de seus discípulos e acerca do seu ensino. 20 Disse-lhe Jesus: *Jo 7.26; cp.8.26Eu tenho falado abertamente ao mundo; eu *Mt 4.23; cp.Jo 6.59ensinei continuadamente nas sinagogas *Mt 26.55e no templo, onde se reúnem todos os judeus, e nada falei ocultamente. 21 Por que me interrogas? Pergunta aos meus ouvintes o que lhes falei; eles sabem o que eu disse. 22 Havendo dito isso, um dos oficiais de justiça que estava perto de Jesus *Jo 19.3deu-lhe uma bofetada, dizendo: É assim que respondes ao sumo sacerdote? 23 *cp.Mt 5.39;At 23.2-5Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Se eu falei mal, dá testemunho do mal; mas, se falei bem, porque me feres? 24 Então, *Jo 18.13Anás o enviou, maniatado, a Caifás, o sumo sacerdote.

De novo, Pedro nega a Jesus

25 *Jo 18.25-27;Mt 26.71-75;Mc 14.69-72;Lc 22.58-62Simão *Jo 18.18Pedro lá estava, aquentando-se. Perguntaram-lhe, pois: *Jo 18.17Não és tu também um de seus discípulos? Ele negou, dizendo: Não sou. 26 Um dos servos do sumo sacerdote, parente daquele a *Jo 18.10quem Pedro tinha decepado a orelha, perguntou: Não te vi eu no *Jo 18.1jardim com ele? 27 De novo, Pedro o negou, e no mesmo instante *Jo 13.38cantou o galo.

Jesus perante Pilatos

28 *Mt 27.2;Mc 15.1;Lc 23.1Conduziram a Jesus da casa de Caifás para *Jo 18.33;19.9;Mt 27.27o Pretório*ou, palácio.. Era de manhã cedo. Eles não entraram no Pretório *cp.Jo 11.55;At 11.3para não se contaminarem, mas para poderem comer a Páscoa. 29 *Jo 18.29-38;Mt 27.11-14;Mc 15.2-5;Lc 23.2-3Pilatos saiu para ir ter com eles e perguntou-lhes: Que acusação trazeis contra este homem? 30 Responderam-lhe: Se ele não fosse malfeitor, não to entregaríamos. 31 Replicou-lhes Pilatos: Tomai-o vós mesmos e julgai-o segundo a vossa Lei. Disseram-lhe os judeus: A nós não nos é permitido tirar a vida a ninguém; 32 para *Jo 12.32s.; cp.3.14;8.28;Mt 20.19;26.2;Mc 10.33s.;Lc 18.32s.se cumprir o que dissera Jesus, significando o modo por que havia de morrer.

Pilatos interroga a Jesus

33 Pilatos *cp.Jo 18.28-29;19.9tornou a entrar no Pretório*ou, palácio., chamou a Jesus e perguntou-lhe: *Lc 23.3; cp.Jo 19.12És tu o Rei dos Judeus? 34 Respondeu Jesus: Dizes tu isso por ti mesmo ou foram outros os que to disseram de mim? 35 Replicou Pilatos: Porventura, sou eu judeu? A tua própria nação e os principais sacerdotes entregaram-te nas minhas mãos. Que fizeste? 36 Respondeu Jesus: *cp.Jo 6.15;Mt 26.53;Lc 17.21O meu reino não é deste mundo. Se o meu reino fosse deste mundo, os meus súditos pelejariam, para não ser eu entregue aos judeus; mas agora o meu reino não é daqui. 37 Perguntou-lhe, pois, Pilatos: Logo tu és rei? Respondeu Jesus: *Mt 27.11;Mc 15.2;Lc 22.70;23.3Tu dizes que sou rei. Eu para isso nasci e para isso vim ao mundo, a fim *Jo 3.32;8.14; cp.1.14de dar testemunho da verdade. *Jo 8.47;1Jo 4.6Todo aquele que é da verdade ouve a minha voz. 38 Perguntou-lhe Pilatos: Que é a verdade?

Depois de dizer isso, *Jo 19.4; cp.Jo 18.33saiu outra vez para ir ter com os judeus e disse-lhes: *Lc 23.4;Jo 19.4Eu não acho nele crime algum. 39 *Jo 18.39—19.16;Mt 27.15-18,20-23;Mc 15.6-15;Lc 23.18-25Mas é costume entre vós que eu vos solte alguém por ocasião da Páscoa; quereis, pois, que vos solte o Rei dos Judeus? 40 Eles tornaram a clamar: *At 3.14Não a este, mas a Barrabás. Ora, Barrabás era salteador.

1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. 2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. 3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none. 10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. 11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? 12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. 14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. 16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. 17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. 18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. 21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. 22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? 23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? 24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. 29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. 31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. 33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. 39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
