Davi dá conselhos a Salomão e morre

1 *Gn 47.29;Dt 31.14Aproximaram-se os dias em que Davi havia de morrer, e deu ele ordem a seu filho Salomão, dizendo: 2 *Js 23.14Eu vou indo pelo caminho de toda a terra. *Dt 31.7,23;Js 1.6-7Esforça-te, porta-te varonilmente 3 e cumpre o serviço que é devido a Jeová, teu Deus, andando pelos seus caminhos, guardando os seus estatutos, os seus mandamentos, os seus juízos e os seus testemunhos, *Dt 17.18-20conforme está escrito na lei de Moisés, *1Cr 22.12-13para que prosperes em tudo o que fizeres e por onde quer que fores, 4 *2Sm 7.25a fim de que Jeová confirme a sua palavra que falou acerca de mim, dizendo: *Sl 132.12Se teus filhos vigiarem sobre os seus caminhos, *2Rs 20.3andando diante de mim em verdade, de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma, *1Rs 8.25;9.5;2Sm 7.12-13não te faltará, disse ele, sucessor ao trono de Israel. 5 Tu sabes também o que me fez Joabe, *2Sm 2.13,18filho de Zeruia, a saber, o que fez aos dois generais do exército, a *1Rs 2.32;2Sm 3.27Abner, filho de Ner, e a *2Sm 20.10Amasa, filho de Jéter, aos quais ele matou e, em tempo de paz, derramou o sangue de guerra, tingindo o cinto que trazia sobre os rins e os sapatos que tinha nos pés. 6 *1Rs 2.9Faze conforme a tua sabedoria e não permitas que as suas cãs desçam em paz à sepultura. 7 *2Sm 19.31-38Porém usa de misericórdia com os filhos de Barzilai, gileadita, e *2Sm 9.7,10sejam eles do número dos que comem à tua mesa, *2Sm 17.27-29porque assim se houveram comigo, quando eu fugia de diante de Absalão, teu irmão. 8 *2Sm 16.5-8Eis que também contigo está Simei, filho de Gera, homem benjamita, de Baurim, que me amaldiçoou com uma cruel maldição no dia em que eu ia a Maanaim. *2Sm 19.18-23Mas ele desceu a encontrar-se comigo junto ao Jordão, e eu lhe jurei por Jeová, dizendo: Não te matarei à espada. 9 Agora, não o tenhas por inocente, *1Rs 2.6porque és homem sábio; saberás o que lhe hás de fazer e farás que as suas cãs não desçam sem sangue à sepultura.

10 *At 2.29;13.36Davi dormiu com seus pais e foi sepultado *1Rs 3.1;2Sm 5.7na Cidade de Davi. 11 *2Sm 5.4-5;1Cr 29.26-27Os dias que Davi reinou sobre Israel foram quarenta anos: em Hebrom *2Sm 5.5reinou sete anos e em Jerusalém reinou trinta e três anos. 12 *1Cr 29.23;2Cr 1.1Salomão sentou-se no trono de seu pai Davi, e o seu reino fortificou-se sobremaneira.

Adonias deseja casar com Abisague

13 Então, foi Adonias, filho de Hagite, ter com Bate-Seba, mãe de Salomão, que lhe perguntou: *1Sm 16.4É de paz a tua vinda? Respondeu ele: É de paz. 14 E acrescentou: Tenho alguma coisa que te dizer. Ela tornou: Dize-a. 15 Então, ele disse: Tu sabes que *1Rs 2.22;2Sm 3.3-4o reino era meu e *1Rs 1.5,25que todo o Israel me tinha escolhido com preferência para reinar; *1Rs 1.38-50contudo, o reino foi transferido e passou a ser de meu irmão, *1Cr 22.9-10;28.5-7porque Jeová lho deu. 16 Agora, uma só coisa te peço; não ma recuses. Ela lhe disse: Fala. 17 Ele disse: Fala ao rei Salomão (pois não to recusará.) *1Rs 1.3-4;2Sm 12.8que me dê por mulher a Abisague, sunamita. 18 Bate-Seba respondeu: Pois bem, eu falarei por ti ao rei.

Morte de Adonias

19 Portanto, Bate-Seba foi ter com o rei Salomão, para lhe falar por Adonias. O rei levantou-se para a receber, e fez-lhe uma reverência, e sentou-se no seu trono, e *1Rs 15.13mandou pôr um trono para a rainha-mãe, *Sl 45.9que se assentou à sua direita. 20 Disse ela: É só uma pequena coisa que eu te peço; *1Rs 2.16não ma recuses. O rei respondeu-lhe: Pede, minha mãe, pois não ta recusarei. 21 Ela disse: *1Rs 1.3-4Dê-se Abisague, sunamita, por mulher a Adonias, teu irmão. 22 Respondeu o rei Salomão à sua mãe: Por que pedes tu a Abisague, sunamita, para Adonias? *2Sm 12.8Pede também para ele o reino *1Rs 1.6;2.15;1Cr 3.2,5(pois é meu irmão mais velho.); sim, para ele, e para o sacerdote *1Rs 1.7Abiatar, e para Joabe, filho de Zeruia. 23 Jurou o rei Salomão por Jeová, dizendo: *Rt 1.17Assim me faça Deus e ainda mais, se Adonias não falou esta palavra contra a sua própria vida. 24 Agora, juro pela vida de Jeová, que me estabeleceu e me colocou no trono de Davi, meu pai, *2Sm 7.11,13;1Cr 22.10fazendo-me uma casa, como prometeu, que hoje será morto Adonias. 25 O rei Salomão *2Sm 8.18deu ordem a Benaia, filho de Joiada, o qual o agrediu de modo que morreu.

26 Disse também o rei ao sacerdote Abiatar: *Js 21.18;Jr 1.1Vai-te para Anatote, para os teus campos, *1Sm 26.16porque és digno de morte. Eu te não tirarei a vida hoje, porque *1Sm 23.6;2Sm 15.24-29levaste a arca do Senhor Jeová diante de meu pai Davi, e porque *1Sm 22.20-23;23.8-9foste afligido em todas as aflições de meu pai. 27 Expulsou Salomão a Abiatar, para que não fosse sacerdote de Jeová, a fim de se cumprir *1Sm 2.27-36a palavra que Jeová tinha proferido em Siló acerca da casa de Eli.

Morte de Joabe

28 Chegando essa notícia a Joabe *1Rs 1.7(pois Joabe tinha seguido o partido de Adonias, *2Sm 17.25;18.2ainda que não seguiu o de Absalão.), fugiu ele para a tenda de Jeová e *1Rs 1.50abraçou-se com os chifres do altar. 29 Foi dito ao rei Salomão: Joabe fugiu para a tenda de Jeová e eis que está junto ao altar. Salomão *1Rs 2.25mandou a Benaia, filho de Joiada, dizendo: Vai, fere-o. 30 Foi Benaia à tenda de Jeová e disse-lhe: Assim diz o rei: Sai para fora. Respondeu Joabe: Não sairei, porém hei de morrer aqui. Benaia deu parte disso ao rei, dizendo: Assim falou Joabe e assim me respondeu. 31 Disse-lhe o rei: *Êx 21.14Faze como ele te disse. Mata-o e sepulta-o, *Nm 35.33;Dt 19.13para que tires de sobre mim e de sobre a casa de meu pai o sangue que Joabe sem causa derramou. 32 *Gn 9.6;Jz 9.24,57Jeová fará recair o sangue dele sobre a sua cabeça, *2Cr 21.13-14porque deu sobre dois homens mais justos e melhores do que ele e, sem meu pai Davi o saber, matou à espada a *2Sm 3.27Abner, filho de Ner e general do exército de Israel, e a *2Sm 20.9-10Amasa, filho de Jéter e general do exército de Judá. 33 *2Sm 3.29Assim, o sangue destes recairá para sempre sobre a cabeça de Joabe e sobre a cabeça da sua descendência; mas a Davi, e à sua descendência, e à sua casa, e ao seu trono dê Jeová paz para sempre. 34 Subiu *1Rs 2.25Benaia, filho de Joiada, agrediu a Joabe e matou-o. Joabe foi sepultado em sua casa, no deserto. 35 Em lugar dele, constituiu o rei por general do exército *1Rs 4.4a Benaia, filho de Joiada, e, *1Rs 2.27em lugar de Abiatar, constituiu o rei por sacerdote a *1Cr 29.22Zadoque.

Simei é proibido de sair de Jerusalém

36 Mandou o rei também chamar a *1Rs 2.8Simei e disse-lhe: Edifica-te uma casa em Jerusalém e habita aí; daí não saias nem para uma nem para outra parte. 37 Pois fica sabendo que, no dia em que saíres e *2Sm 15.23passares a torrente de Cedrom, sem falta hás de morrer. *2Sm 1.16O teu sangue recairá sobre a tua cabeça. 38 Respondeu Simei ao rei: Boa é essa palavra. Como disse o rei, meu senhor, assim fará o teu servo. Simei habitou em Jerusalém muitos dias.

39 Ao fim de três anos, fugiram dois dos servos de Simei para *1Sm 27.2Aquis, filho de Maaca, rei de Gate. Disseram a Simei: Eis que os teus servos estão em Gate. 40 Levantou-se Simei, albardou o seu jumento e foi a Gate ter com Aquis, em busca dos seus servos; assim foi Simei e trouxe de Gate os seus servos. 41 Avisou-se a Salomão que Simei tinha ido de Jerusalém a Gate e que tinha voltado. 42 Então, mandou o rei chamar a Simei e lhe disse: Não te fiz eu jurar por Jeová e não te protestei, dizendo: Fica sabendo que, no dia em que saíres e andares onde quer que seja, sem falta hás de morrer? E tu me respondeste: Boa é essa palavra que acabo de ouvir. 43 Por que não guardaste logo o juramento de Jeová, e a ordem que te dei? 44 Disse mais o rei a Simei: *2Sm 16.5-13Tu sabes, e o teu coração reconhece toda a maldade que fizeste a Davi, meu pai; por isso, *1Sm 25.39;2Rs 11.1,12-16Jeová te fará recair sobre a cabeça a tua maldade. 45 O rei Salomão será abençoado, *2Sm 7.13e o trono de Davi será estabelecido perante Jeová, para sempre. 46 *1Rs 2.25,34O rei deu ordem a Benaia, filho de Joiada; este saiu e agrediu a Simei, de modo que morreu. *1Rs 2.12;2Cr 1.1Estabeleceu-se o reino na mão de Salomão.

1 Now the days of David came near that he should die; and he commanded Solomon his son, saying, 2 "I am going the way of all the earth. You be strong therefore, and show yourself a man; 3 and keep the instruction of Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, according to that which is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn yourself. 4 Then Yahweh may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your children are careful of their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you,’ he said, ‘a man on the throne of Israel.’

5 "Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his sash that was around his waist and in his sandals that were on his feet. 6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don’t let his gray head go down to Sheol*2:6 Sheol is the place of the dead. in peace. 7 But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table; for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

8 "Behold, there is with you Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Yahweh, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’ 9 Now therefore don’t hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man; and you will know what you ought to do to him, and you shall bring his gray head down to Sheol*2:9 Sheol is the place of the dead. with blood."

10 David slept with his fathers, and was buried in David’s city. 11 The days that David reigned over Israel were forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 12 Solomon sat on David his father’s throne; and his kingdom was firmly established.

13 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. She said, "Do you come peaceably?"

He said, "Peaceably. 14 He said moreover, I have something to tell you."

She said, "Say on."

15 He said, "You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom is turned around, and has become my brother’s; for it was his from Yahweh. 16 Now I ask one petition of you. Don’t deny me."

She said to him, "Say on."

17 He said, "Please speak to Solomon the king (for he will not tell you ‘no’), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife."

18 Bathsheba said, "All right. I will speak for you to the king."

19 Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. The king rose up to meet her and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne and caused a throne to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand. 20 Then she said, "I ask one small petition of you; don’t deny me."

The king said to her, "Ask on, my mother, for I will not deny you."

21 She said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as wife."

22 King Solomon answered his mother, "Why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah." 23 Then King Solomon swore by Yahweh, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life. 24 Now therefore as Yahweh lives, who has established me and set me on my father David’s throne, and who has made me a house as he promised, surely Adonijah shall be put to death today."

25 King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell on him, so that he died. 26 To Abiathar the priest the king said, "Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death. But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the Lord*2:26 The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai." Yahweh’s ark before David my father, and because you were afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted." 27 So Solomon thrust Abiathar out from being priest to Yahweh, that he might fulfill Yahweh’s word which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 This news came to Joab; for Joab had followed Adonijah, although he didn’t follow Absalom. Joab fled to Yahweh’s Tent, and held onto the horns of the altar. 29 King Solomon was told, "Joab has fled to Yahweh’s Tent; and behold, he is by the altar." Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, "Go, fall on him."

30 Benaiah came to Yahweh’s Tent, and said to him, "The king says, ‘Come out!’"

He said, "No; but I will die here."

Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, "This is what Joab said, and this is how he answered me."

31 The king said to him, "Do as he has said, and fall on him, and bury him, that you may take away the blood, which Joab shed without cause, from me and from my father’s house. 32 Yahweh will return his blood on his own head, because he fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David didn’t know it: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the army of Judah. 33 So their blood will return on the head of Joab and on the head of his offspring*2:33 or, seed forever. But for David, for his offspring, for his house, and for his throne, there will be peace forever from Yahweh."

34 Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell on him, and killed him; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. 35 The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the king put Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.

36 The king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Build yourself a house in Jerusalem, and live there, and don’t go anywhere else. 37 For on the day you go out and pass over the brook Kidron, know for certain that you will surely die. Your blood will be on your own head."

38 Shimei said to the king, "What you say is good. As my lord the king has said, so will your servant do." Shimei lived in Jerusalem many days.

39 At the end of three years, two of Shimei’s slaves ran away to Achish, son of Maacah, king of Gath. They told Shimei, saying, "Behold, your slaves are in Gath."

40 Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his slaves; and Shimei went and brought his slaves from Gath. 41 Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

42 The king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Didn’t I adjure you by Yahweh and warn you, saying, ‘Know for certain that on the day you go out and walk anywhere else, you shall surely die’? You said to me, ‘The saying that I have heard is good.’ 43 Why then have you not kept the oath of Yahweh and the commandment that I have instructed you with?" 44 The king said moreover to Shimei, "You know in your heart all the wickedness that you did to David my father. Therefore Yahweh will return your wickedness on your own head. 45 But King Solomon will be blessed, and David’s throne will be established before Yahweh forever." 46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out, and fell on him, so that he died. The kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
