Oráculo concernente a Damasco e Efraim

Eis que Damasco está *Is 7.16;8.4;10.9removida para não mais ser cidade e se tornará um *Is 25.2;Jr 49.2;Mq 1.6montão de ruínas. 2 Abandonadas são as cidades de *Nm 32.34Aroer; hão de ser para os *Is 7.21-22;Ez 25.5;Sf 2.6rebanhos, que aí se deitarão, *Mq 4.4e não haverá quem os espante. 3 Também de Efraim *Is 7.8,16;8.4a fortaleza cessará, e de Damasco, o reino; e os restantes da Síria serão *Is 17.4;Os 9.11como a glória dos filhos de Israel, diz Jeová dos Exércitos.

4 Naquele dia, será atenuada a *Is 10.3glória de Jacó, e *Is 10.16a gordura da sua carne emagrecerá. 5 Será como *Is 17.11;Jr 51.33;Jl 3.13;Mt 13.30quando o ceifador ajunta a cana do trigo e o seu braço colhe as espigas; sim, como quando alguém colhe espigas *2Sm 5.18,22no vale de Refaim. 6 Todavia, ficarão nele *Is 24.13;27.12;Dt 4.27;Ob 5uns rabiscos, como no varejar de uma oliveira; duas ou três azeitonas na ponta do ramo mais alto, quatro ou cinco nos ramos da árvore frutífera, diz Jeová, Deus de Israel. 7 Naquele dia, *Is 10.20;Os 3.5;6.1;Mq 7.7olhará o homem para o seu Criador, e os seus olhos atentarão para o Santo de Israel. 8 Não olhará para *Is 27.9;2Cr 34.7os altares, obra das suas mãos, nem atentará para o que *Is 2.8,20;30.22;31.7os seus dedos fizeram, para os *Êx 34.13;Dt 7.5;Mq 5.14Aserins e para as imagens do sol. 9 Naquele dia, as suas cidades fortificadas serão como *Is 7.25os lugares abandonados nos bosques e no cume dos montes, abandonados à vista dos filhos de Israel; haverá uma desolação. 10 Porque *Is 51.13te esqueceste do *Is 12.2;33.2;61.10;62.11;Sl 68.19Deus da tua salvação e não te lembraste da *Is 26.4;30.29;44.8;Dt 32.4,18,31Rocha da tua fortaleza; por isso, fazes plantações deleitosas e pões nela sarmentos de uma vide estranha. 11 No dia em que a plantares, *Mt 21.23fazes uma sebe ao redor e, *Sl 90.6pela manhã, fazes que a tua semente floresça; *Jó 4.8;Os 8.7;10.13desvanece, porém, a ceifa no dia da enfermidade e das dores mortais.

Prediz-se a ruína do exército dos assírios

12 Ai do bramido de muitos povos, *Is 5.30;8.9-10;13.4;Jr 6.23;Ez 43.2;Lc 21.25que bramem como o bramido dos mares, e do rugido das nações que rugem como o *Sl 18.4rugido de grandes águas! 13 *Is 33.3As nações rugirão como o rugido de grandes águas. Mas Deus as *Is 41.11;Sl 9.5repreenderá, de maneira que *Is 13.14fugirão para longe e serão afugentadas *Is 29.5;41.15-16;Jó 21.18;Sl 1.4;83.13como a palha dos montes diante do vento e como o que é levado num redemoinho diante da tempestade. 14 No tempo da tarde, eis o terror; e, antes de amanhecer o dia, já *Is 41.12;2Rs 19.35não existe. Este é *Is 3.14-15;16.4;49.26;Jz 5.31;Jó 20.29o quinhão daqueles que nos despojam e a sorte dos que nos saqueiam.

1 The burden of Damascus.

"Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap. 2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which shall lie down, and no one shall make them afraid. 3 The fortress shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria. They will be as the glory of the children of Israel," says Yahweh of Armies.

4 "It will happen in that day that the glory of Jacob will be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean. 5 It will be like when the harvester gathers the wheat, and his arm reaps the grain. Yes, it will be like when one gleans grain in the valley of Rephaim. 6 Yet gleanings will be left there, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of a fruitful tree," says Yahweh, the God of Israel. 7 In that day, people will look to their Maker, and their eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel. 8 They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they respect that which their fingers have made, either the Asherah poles or the incense altars. 9 In that day, their strong cities will be like the forsaken places in the woods and on the mountain top, which were forsaken from before the children of Israel; and it will be a desolation. 10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the rock of your strength. Therefore you plant pleasant plants, and set out foreign seedlings. 11 In the day of your planting, you hedge it in. In the morning, you make your seed blossom, but the harvest flees away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

12 Ah, the uproar of many peoples who roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations that rush like the rushing of mighty waters! 13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters, but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm. 14 At evening, behold, terror! Before the morning, they are no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.
