Elifaz exorta a Jó a que busque a Deus

1 Chama, agora; há alguém que te responda?

A qual dos *Jó 15.15entes santos te dirigirás?

2 Pois a *Pv 12.16;27.3insubmissão mata o fátuo,

e o apaixonamento tira a vida ao parvo.

3 Eu vi o *Jr 12.2fátuo criando raízes;

mas, de repente, *Jó 24.18;31.30declarei maldita a sua habitação.

4 Seus *Jó 4.11, ref.filhos estão longe da segurança,

são espezinhados na porta,

e não há quem os livre.

5 A sua messe é devorada pelo faminto,

que a arrebata até dentre os espinhos,

e o *Jó 18.8-10;22.10laço abre as fauces para a fazenda deles.

6 Pois *Jó 15.35a iniquidade não procede do pó,

nem da terra brota a aflição;

7 Mas *Jó 14.1o homem nasce para a aflição,

tão certamente como as faíscas voam para cima.

8 Porém, quanto a mim, eu *Jó 13.2-3buscaria a Deus

e a Deus entregaria a minha causa.

9 O qual *Jó 9.10;37.14,16;42.3faz coisas grandes e inescrutáveis,

maravilhas sem número.

10 Ele *Jó 36.27-29;37.6-11;38.26faz chover sobre a terra

e envia águas sobre os campos,

11 de modo que *Jó 22.29;36.7põe os abatidos num lugar alto;

e os que choram são exaltados à segurança.

12 Ele *Sl 33.10frustra as maquinações dos astutos,

de maneira que as suas mãos não possam acabar o seu empreendimento.

13 Ele *Jó 37.24;1Co 3.19apanha os sábios na sua astúcia,

e o conselho dos perversos é precipitado.

14 De dia, *Jó 12.25;15.30;18.18;20.26;24.13se acham em trevas

e, ao meio-dia, andam às apalpadelas, como de noite.

15 Porém Deus salva da *Jó 4.10-11;Sl 35.10espada que sai da boca deles;

ele salva o *Jó 29.17;34.28;36.6,15;38.15necessitado da mão do poderoso.

16 Assim há esperança para o pobre,

e a *Sl 107.42iniquidade tapa a boca.

As bênçãos do castigo

17 Eis que *Sl 94.12feliz é o homem a quem Deus reprova.

Portanto, não desprezes a *Jó 36.15-16;Pv 3.11;Hb 12.5-11correção do Todo-Poderoso.

18 Pois *Dt 32.39;1Sm 2.6;Is 30.26;Os 6.1ele faz a ferida e a ata.

Ele fere, e as suas mãos curam.

19 Em seis tribulações, ele te livrará,

e, em sete, o mal não te tocará.

20 *Sl 33.19;37.19Na fome, ele te redimirá da morte

*Sl 144.10e, na guerra, do poder da espada.

21 Estarás *Jó 5.15;Sl 31.20escondido do açoite da língua

*Sl 91.5-6e não terás medo da assolação, quando chegar.

22 Da assolação e da penúria, *Jó 8.21te rirás

23 Pois terás aliança com as pedras do campo,

*Is 11.6-9;65.25e as feras do campo estarão em paz contigo.

24 Saberás que *Jó 8.6a tua tenda está em paz,

visitarás o teu rebanho, e nada te faltará.

25 Também saberás que *Sl 112.2se multiplicará a tua descendência,

*Is 44.3-4;48.19e a tua posteridade, como a erva da terra.

26 *Jó 42.16Em boa velhice, entrarás na sepultura,

como se recolhe a meda de trigo a seu tempo.

27 Eis que isso nós o temos provado, assim o é;

ouve-o e conhece-o tu para o teu bem.

1 "Call now; is there any who will answer you?

To which of the holy ones will you turn?

2 For resentment kills the foolish man,

and jealousy kills the simple.

3 I have seen the foolish taking root,

but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

4 His children are far from safety.

They are crushed in the gate.

Neither is there any to deliver them,

5 whose harvest the hungry eat up,

and take it even out of the thorns.

The snare gapes for their substance.

6 For affliction doesn’t come out of the dust,

neither does trouble spring out of the ground;

7 but man is born to trouble,

as the sparks fly upward.

8 "But as for me, I would seek God.

I would commit my cause to God,

9 who does great things that can’t be fathomed,

marvelous things without number;

10 who gives rain on the earth,

and sends waters on the fields;

11 so that he sets up on high those who are low,

those who mourn are exalted to safety.

12 He frustrates the plans of the crafty,

so that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.

13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness;

the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

14 They meet with darkness in the day time,

and grope at noonday as in the night.

15 But he saves from the sword of their mouth,

even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

16 So the poor has hope,

and injustice shuts her mouth.

17 "Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects.

Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.

18 For he wounds and binds up.

He injures and his hands make whole.

19 He will deliver you in six troubles;

yes, in seven no evil will touch you.

20 In famine he will redeem you from death;

in war, from the power of the sword.

21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,

neither will you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

22 You will laugh at destruction and famine,

neither will you be afraid of the animals of the earth.

23 For you will be allied with the stones of the field.

The animals of the field will be at peace with you.

24 You will know that your tent is in peace.

You will visit your fold, and will miss nothing.

25 You will know also that your offspring*5:25 or, seed will be great,

your offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 You will come to your grave in a full age,

like a shock of grain comes in its season.

27 Behold, we have researched it. It is so.
