O amor de Jeová por Jacó

2 Eu vos tenho *Dt 4.37;23.5;Is 41.8-9;Jr 31.3amado, diz Jeová. Contudo, vós dizeis: *Ml 1.7;Ml 2.14,17;3.7-8,13Em que nos tens amado? Acaso não era Esaú irmão de Jacó? — diz Jeová. Contudo, *Rm 9.13amei a Jacó, 3 e aborreci a Esaú, *Jr 49.16-18;Ez 35.8,15e fiz dos seus montes uma desolação, e dei a sua herança aos chacais do deserto. 4 Portanto, Edom diz: Temos sido *Jr 5.17arruinados, mas *Is 9.9-10voltaremos e edificaremos os lugares desolados. Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos: Eles *Am 3.15;5.11;6.11edificarão; eu, porém, demolirei; e chamar-lhes-ão Termo de Impiedade e Povo contra o qual Jeová está indignado *Is 34.5,10;Ez 35.9;Ob 10para sempre. 5 Os vossos olhos o verão, e vós direis: *Sl 35.27;Mq 5.4Magnificado seja Jeová sobre o termo de Israel.

6 O filho *Êx 20.12;Pv 30.11,17honra a seu pai, e o servo, a seu amo; se eu, pois, *Ml 2.10;Dt 1.31;Is 1.2;Jr 3.4sou pai, onde está a minha honra? E, se sou amo, onde está o *Ml 3.5temor de mim? — diz Jeová dos Exércitos a vós, *Ml 2.1-9;Sf 3.4ó sacerdotes, que desprezais o meu nome. Vós dizeis: Em que temos desprezado o teu nome? 7 Ofereceis sobre o meu altar *Lv 21.6,8pão *Ml 1.8,13profano e dizeis: Em que te havemos profanado? Nisto que dizeis: *Ml 1.12A mesa de Jeová é desprezível. 8 Quando oferecerdes em sacrifício um animal *Dt 15.21cego, isso não é mau? E, quando oferecerdes o que é coxo e doente, isso não é mau? Apresenta-o, pois, ao teu governador; acaso, terá ele agrado em ti? Ou aceitará ele a tua pessoa? — diz Jeová dos Exércitos. 9 Agora, *Jr 27.18;Jl 2.12-14suplicai o favor de Deus, para que se compadeça de nós (isso tem sido feito por vossas mãos). Acaso, *Am 5.22aceitará ele qualquer um de vós? — diz Jeová dos Exércitos. 10 Oxalá que entre vós houvesse um só que *Is 1.13fechasse as portas, para que não acendêsseis debalde fogo sobre o meu altar! Não tenho prazer em vós, diz Jeová dos Exércitos, nem *Jr 14.10,12;Os 5.6aceitarei da vossa mão oferta alguma. 11 Pois, desde o *Is 45.6nascente do sol até o poente do mesmo, é grande entre os gentios o meu nome; e em todo o lugar se oferece ao meu nome *Is 60.6incenso e uma oblação pura; porque o meu nome é *Is 12.4-5;54.5;Jr 10.6-7grande entre os gentios, diz Jeová dos Exércitos. 12 Mas vós *Ml 1.7o profanais, nisto que dizeis: A mesa de Jeová está profanada, e o seu fruto, isto é, a sua comida, é desprezível. 13 Dizeis também: Eis que de *Is 43.22canseira é! E tende-lo desprezado, diz Jeová dos Exércitos; e tendes trazido o que foi *Lv 6.4;Is 61.8roubado, *Ml 1.8e o coxo, e o doente; assim, trazeis a oferta. *Ml 1.10Aceitaria eu isso da vossa mão? — diz Jeová. 14 Mas maldito seja o enganador que tem no seu rebanho um animal macho, e vota, e sacrifica a Jeová o que *Lv 22.18-20;At 5.1-4tem mácula, pois eu sou um grande *Zc 14.9rei, diz Jeová dos Exércitos, e o meu nome é *Sf 2.11terrível entre os gentios.

2 "I have loved you," says Yahweh.

Yet you say, "How have you loved us?"

"Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?" says Yahweh, "Yet I loved Jacob; 3 but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness." 4 Whereas Edom says, "We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places," Yahweh of Armies says, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever."

5 Your eyes will see, and you will say, "Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!"

6 "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. "You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’ 7 You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is contemptible.’ 8 When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?" says Yahweh of Armies.

9 "Now, please entreat the favor of God,*1:9 The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "אֱלֹהִ֑ים" (Elohim). that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?" says Yahweh of Armies.

10 "Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you," says Yahweh of Armies, "neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 11 For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations," says Yahweh of Armies. 12 "But you profane it when you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’ 13 You say also, ‘Behold,*1:13 "Behold", from "הִנֵּה", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it", says Yahweh of Armies; "and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?" says Yahweh.

14 "But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord*1:14 The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai." a defective thing; for I am a great King," says Yahweh of Armies, "and my name is awesome among the nations."
