A contenda de Jeová com o seu povo

1 Ouvi, agora, o que diz Jeová: Levanta-te, *Sl 50.1,4;Is 1.2;Ez 6.2-3contende perante os montes, e ouçam os outeiros a tua voz. 2 Ouvi, montes, a controvérsia de Jeová, e vós, *2Sm 22.16;Sl 104.5fundamentos duráveis da terra; porque *Is 1.18;Os 4.1;12.2Jeová tem uma controvérsia com o seu povo e com Israel entrará em juízo. 3 *Sl 50.7Povo meu, *Is 43.22-23;Jr 2.5que é o que te hei feito? E com que te hei enfadado? Dá testemunho contra mim. 4 Pois te *Êx 20.2fiz sair da terra do Egito *Dt 7.8e te remi da casa de escravidão; enviei adiante de ti a *Sl 77.20Moisés, a Arão e a *Êx 15.20Miriã. 5 Povo meu, lembra-te, agora, do que consultou *Nm 22.5-6Balaque, rei de Moabe, e o que lhe respondeu Balaão, filho de Beor; lembra-te desde *Nm 25.1;Js 2.1;3.1Sitim até *Js 4.19;5.9-10Gilgal, para que conheças as *1Sm 12.7;Is 1.27justiças de Jeová.

6 Com *Sl 40.6-8que me apresentarei diante de Jeová e me prostrarei perante o Deus excelso? Apresentar-me-ei diante dele *Sl 51.16-17com holocaustos, com bezerros dum ano? 7 Agradar-se-á Jeová *Is 40.16de milhares de carneiros ou com miríades de rios de azeite? Darei o meu *Lv 18.21;19.1-5;Jr 7.31primogênito pela minha transgressão, o fruto do meu corpo, pelo pecado da minha alma? 8 Ele *Dt 30.15te há mostrado, ó homem, o que é bom; e *Dt 10.12que é o que Jeová requer de ti, senão que *Is 56.1;Jr 22.3procedas com justiça, e *Os 6.6ames a misericórdia, e andes *Is 57.15;66.2humilde com o teu Deus?

A injustiça é repreendida

9 A voz de Jeová clama à cidade, e o homem de sabedoria verá o teu nome; *Jó 5.6-8,17;Is 11.4ouvi a vara e aquele que a ordenou. 10 Porventura, ainda há os tesouros da *Jr 5.26-27;Am 3.10impiedade na casa dos ímpios *Ez 45.9-10;Am 8.5e o efa desfalcado, que é abominável? 11 Serei eu inocente *Lv 19.36;Os 12.7com balanças injustas e com uma bolsa de pesos enganosos? 12 Pois os ricos da cidade estão cheios *Mq 2.1-2;Is 1.23;5.7;Am 6.3-4de violência, e os que habitam nela têm falado *Jr 9.2-6,8;Os 7.13;Am 2.4mentiras, e a *Is 3.8língua deles é enganosa na sua boca. 13 Portanto, também eu te feri *Mq 1.9dum golpe mortal e te fiz *Is 1.7;6.11desolada por causa dos teus pecados. 14 Tu comerás *Is 9.20e não te fartarás; a tua humilhação estará no meio de ti; removerás os teus bens, porém *Is 30.6não os livrarás; e os que livrares, eu os entregarei à espada. 15 Tu semearás, porém *Dt 28.38-40;Jr 12.13não ceifarás; pisarás a azeitona, porém não te ungirás de azeite; pisarás a vindima, porém *Am 5.11;Sf 1.13não beberás o vinho. 16 Pois se observam os estatutos de *1Rs 16.25-26Onri e todas as obras da casa de *1Rs 16.29-33Acabe *Jr 7.24e andais nos conselhos deles; para que eu te faça uma *Mq 6.13;Jr 18.16desolação e os que habitam nela, um *Jr 19.8;25.9,18;29.18objeto de vaias. Tereis sobre vós *Sl 44.13;Jr 51.51;Os 12.14o opróbrio do meu povo.

1 Listen now to what Yahweh says:

"Arise, plead your case before the mountains,

and let the hills hear what you have to say.

2 Hear, you mountains, Yahweh’s indictment,

and you enduring foundations of the earth;

for Yahweh has a case against his people,

and he will contend with Israel.

3 My people, what have I done to you?

How have I burdened you?

Answer me!

4 For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt,

and redeemed you out of the house of bondage.

I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

5 My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab devised,

and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal,

that you may know the righteous acts of Yahweh."

6 How shall I come before Yahweh,

and bow myself before the exalted God?

Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,

with calves a year old?

7 Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams?

With tens of thousands of rivers of oil?

Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience?

The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8 He has shown you, O man, what is good.

What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly,

to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

9 Yahweh’s voice calls to the city—

and wisdom fears your name—

"Listen to the rod,

and he who appointed it.

10 Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked,

and a short ephah*6:10 An ephah is a measure of volume (about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel), and a short ephah is made smaller than a full ephah for the purpose of cheating customers. that is accursed?

11 Shall I tolerate dishonest scales,

and a bag of deceitful weights?

12 Her rich men are full of violence,

her inhabitants speak lies,

and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.

13 Therefore I also have struck you with a grievous wound.

I have made you desolate because of your sins.

14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied.

Your hunger will be within you.

You will store up, but not save,

and that which you save I will give up to the sword.

15 You will sow, but won’t reap.

You will tread the olives, but won’t anoint yourself with oil;

and crush grapes, but won’t drink the wine.

16 For the statutes of Omri are kept,

and all the works of Ahab’s house.

You walk in their counsels,

that I may make you a ruin,

and your inhabitants a hissing.

You will bear the reproach of my people."
