What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry.
And he said to them, »Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.«
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common.

Jesus said to him, »If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.«
