1 Όταν ο Ιησούς βγήκε από το ναό και ξεκίνησε να φύγει, ήρθαν οι μαθητές του για να του δείξουν τα οικοδομήματα του ναού. 2 Ο Ιησούς όμως τους είπε: «Τα βλέπετε όλα αυτά; Σας βεβαιώνω πως δε θα μείνει εδώ πέτρα πάνω στην πέτρα· όλα θα γκρεμιστούν».

3 Ύστερα ο Ιησούς πήγε και κάθισε στο όρος των Ελαιών. Κι ήρθαν οι μαθητές του και τον ρώτησαν ιδιαιτέρως: «Πες μας, πότε θα γίνουν αυτά, και ποιο σημάδι θα δείξει πως πλησιάζει η παρουσία σου και η συντέλεια του κόσμου;»

4 Ο Ιησούς τους απάντησε: «Προσέχετε μη σας ξεγελάσει κανείς. 5 Γιατί πολλοί θα εμφανιστούν σαν μεσσίες και θα ισχυρίζονται: "εγώ είμαι ο Μεσσίας". Έτσι θα παραπλανήσουν πολλούς. 6 Τότε θ’ ακούσετε πως γίνονται πόλεμοι, ή προετοιμάζονται πόλεμοι. Προσέξτε να μην ταραχτείτε, γιατί όλα αυτά πρέπει να γίνουν, αλλά δεν είναι ακόμη το τέλος. 7 Το ένα έθνος θα ξεσηκωθεί εναντίον του άλλου και το ένα βασίλειο εναντίον του άλλου· θα έρθουν πείνα, αρρώστιες και σεισμοί σε διάφορα μέρη. 8 Όλα αυτά όμως είναι σαν τους πρώτους πόνους της γέννας.

9 »Θα σας παραδώσουν σε βασανιστήρια και θα σας σκοτώσουν, κι όλοι οι λαοί θα σας μισούν εξαιτίας μου. 10 Τότε πολλοί θα αποστατήσουν, θα καταδώσουν ο ένας τον άλλο και θα μισούν ο ένας τον άλλο. 11 Θα εμφανιστούν και πολλοί ψευδοπροφήτες και θα παραπλανούν πολλούς. 12 Επειδή μάλιστα θα πληθύνει η κακία, η αγάπη πολλών θα ψυχρανθεί. 13 Όποιος όμως μείνει σταθερός ως το τέλος, αυτός θα σωθεί. 14 Πρώτα θα κηρυχθεί σ’ όλη την οικουμένη αυτό το ευαγγέλιο για τη βασιλεία του Θεού, για να το ακούσουν όλα τα έθνη, και ύστερα θα έρθει το τέλος.

15 »Όταν λοιπόν θα δείτε να στήνεται στο ιερό το βδέλυγμα της ερημώσεως, που προφήτεψε ο Θεός μέσω του προφήτη Δανιήλ –ο αναγνώστης ας καταλάβει– 16 τότε, όσοι βρεθούν στην Ιουδαία, να φύγουν στα βουνά· 17 όποιος βρεθεί στο λιακωτό, να φύγει χωρίς να κατεβεί να πάρει τα πράγματα απ’ το σπίτι του. 18 Το ίδιο κι όποιος βρεθεί στο χωράφι, να φύγει χωρίς να γυρίσει πίσω να πάρει το πανωφόρι του. 19 Κι αλίμονο στις γυναίκες που θα ’ναι έγκυες ή θα θηλάζουν εκείνον τον καιρό!

20 »Να προσεύχεστε να μην αναγκαστείτε να φύγετε χειμώνα ή μέρα Σάββατο. 21 Γιατί τα δεινά που θα συμβούν τότε θα ’ναι τέτοια, που δεν ξανάγιναν απ’ την αρχή του κόσμου έως σήμερα κι ούτε θα ξαναγίνουν. 22 Κι αν δε λιγόστευε ο Θεός τις ημέρες των δεινών, δε θα γλίτωνε κανένας· αλλά για χάρη των εκλεκτών θα λιγοστέψει τις ημέρες εκείνες.

23 »Αν κάποιος τότε σας πει, "να, εδώ είναι ο Μεσσίας" ή "να, εκεί είναι", μην τον πιστέψετε. 24 Γιατί θα εμφανιστούν ψευδομεσσίες και ψευδοπροφήτες, που θα κάνουν μεγάλα και φοβερά θαύματα, για να παραπλανήσουν, αν είναι δυνατόν, ακόμα κι αυτούς που διάλεξε ο Θεός. 25 Εγώ σας τα είπα πριν γίνουν. 26 Αν, λοιπόν, σας πουν, "να τος, είναι στην έρημο", μην πάτε· κι αν σας πουν, "να τος, εκεί είναι κρυμμένος", μην τους πιστέψετε. 27 Γιατί ο Υιός του Ανθρώπου θα έρθει τόσο φανερά, όπως η αστραπή που βγαίνει στην ανατολή και φαίνεται ως τη δύση. 28 Κι όπως λέει η παροιμία, όπου το πτώμα, εκεί και τα όρνεα.

29 »Αμέσως ύστερα από τα δεινά εκείνης της εποχής,

ο ήλιος θα σκοτεινιάσει,

και το φεγγάρι θα πάψει πια να φέγγει·

τ’ άστρα θα πέσουν από τον ουρανό,

και οι ουράνιες δυνάμεις που κρατούν την τάξη του σύμπαντος, θα διασαλευτούν.

30 Τότε θα εμφανιστεί στον ουρανό το σημάδι του Υιού του Ανθρώπου και θα θρηνήσουν όλες οι φυλές της γης· θα δουν τον Υιό του Ανθρώπου να έρχεται πάνω στα σύννεφα του ουρανού, με δύναμη και λαμπρότητα μεγάλη. 31 Αυτός θα στείλει τους αγγέλους του να σαλπίσουν δυνατά και να συνάξουν τους εκλεκτούς του από τα τέσσερα σημεία του ορίζοντα, από το ένα άκρο του κόσμου ως το άλλο.

32 »Πάρτε μάθημα από τη συκιά: Όταν πια μαλακώσουν τα κλαδιά της και βγάλει φύλλα, καταλαβαίνετε πως πλησιάζει το καλοκαίρι. 33 Έτσι κι εσείς, όταν τα δείτε όλα αυτά, να καταλάβετε ότι πλησιάζει το τέλος, ότι βρίσκεται πολύ κοντά. 34 Σας βεβαιώνω πως όλα αυτά θα γίνουν όσο ακόμη ζουν οι άνθρωποι ετούτης της γενιάς. 35 Ο σημερινός κόσμος θα πάψει να υπάρχει, τα λόγια μου όμως ποτέ».

36 «Ποια όμως μέρα και ώρα θα έρθει το τέλος, κανένας δεν το ξέρει· ούτε οι άγγελοι των ουρανών, παρά μόνον ο Πατέρας μου.

37 »Η παρουσία του Υιού του Ανθρώπου θα μοιάζει με ό,τι έγινε την εποχή του Νώε. 38 Εκείνη την εποχή, πριν από τον κατακλυσμό, οι άνθρωποι έτρωγαν και έπιναν, παντρεύονταν και πάντρευαν ως την ημέρα που μπήκε ο Νώε στην κιβωτό. 39 Δεν κατάλαβαν τίποτε, ώσπου ήρθε ο κατακλυσμός και τους αφάνισε όλους. Έτσι θα γίνει και με την παρουσία του Υιού του Ανθρώπου. 40 Τότε, από δύο ανθρώπους που θα βρεθούν στο χωράφι, ο ένας θα σωθεί κι ο άλλος θα χαθεί. 41 Δύο γυναίκες θ’ αλέθουν στο μύλο, η μία θα σωθεί κι η άλλη θα χαθεί.

42 »Να αγρυπνείτε, λοιπόν, γιατί δεν ξέρετε ποια μέρα θα έρθει ο Κύριός σας. 43 Και να ξέρετε τούτο: Αν ήξερε ο ιδιοκτήτης ενός σπιτιού ποια ώρα θα έρθει ο κλέφτης, θα ξαγρυπνούσε και δε θ’ άφηνε να διαρρήξουν το σπίτι του. 44 Γι’ αυτό κι εσείς να είστε έτοιμοι, γιατί ο Υιός του Ανθρώπου θα έρθει την ώρα που δεν τον περιμένετε».

45 «Ποιος άραγε είναι ο έμπιστος και συνετός δούλος που ο κύριός του τον έκανε επιστάτη των δούλων του, να τους δίνει την τροφή τις ορισμένες ώρες; 46 Μακάριος ο δούλος εκείνος που όταν έρθει ο κύριός του, θα τον βρει να κάνει σωστά τη δουλειά του. 47 Σας βεβαιώνω πως θα τον βάλει υπεύθυνο σ’ όλα του τα υπάρχοντα. 48 Αν όμως ο κακός εκείνος δούλος πει μέσα του: "αργεί να ’ρθεί ο κύριός μου" 49 κι αρχίσει να χτυπάει τους συνδούλους του και να τρώει και να πίνει μαζί με μέθυσους, 50 θα ’ρθεί ο κύριός του μια μέρα που αυτός δε θα τον περιμένει και σε ώρα που δε θα την υποψιάζεται· 51 θα του επιβάλει σκληρή τιμωρία και θα τον ρίξει στον τόπο όπου τιμωρούνται οι υποκριτές. Εκεί θα κλαίει και θα τρίζει τα δόντια του».

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
