1 Then David said, This is the house of Yahweh God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel.2 And David commanded to gather together the sojourners who were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut wrought stones to build the house of God.3 And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and bronze in abundance without weight;4 and cedar-trees without number: for the Sidonians and those of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David.5 And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.6 Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.7 And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of Yahweh my God.8 But the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars: you will not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.9 Look, a son will be born to you, who will be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days:10 he will build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.11 Now, my son, Yahweh be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you.12 Only may Yahweh give you discretion and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel; that so you may keep the law of Yahweh your God.13 Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; don't be afraid, neither be dismayed.14 Now, look, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of Yahweh a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and of bronze and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone I have prepared; and you may add thereto.15 Moreover there are workmen with you in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men who are skillful in every manner of work:16 of the gold, the silver, and the bronze, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and do it, and Yahweh be with you.17 David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, [saying],18 Isn't Yahweh your{+} God with you{+}? And has he not given you{+} rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before Yahweh, and before his people.19 Now set your{+} heart and your{+} soul to seek after Yahweh your{+} God; arise therefore, and build{+} the sanctuary of Yahweh God, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of Yahweh.

1 Então disse Davi: "Este é o lugar para o templo de Deus, o Senhor, e do altar de holocaustos para Israel".2 Então Davi deu ordens para que se reunissem os estrangeiros que viviam em Israel, e dentre eles designou cortadores de pedra para prepararem pedras lavradas para a construção do templo de Deus.3 Ele providenciou grande quantidade de ferro para a fabricação de pregos e dobradiças para as portas, e mais bronze do que se podia pesar.4 Também providenciou mais toras de cedro do que se podia contar, pois os sidônios e os tírios haviam trazido muito cedro para Davi.5 Davi pensava: "Meu filho Salomão é jovem e inexperiente, e o templo que será construído para o Senhor deve ser extraordinariamente magnífico, famoso e cheio de esplendor à vista de todas as nações. Por isso deixarei tudo preparado para a construção". Assim, Davi deixou tudo preparado antes de morrer.6 Davi mandou chamar seu filho Salomão e ordenou que ele construísse um templo para o Senhor, o Deus de Israel,7 dizendo: "Meu filho, eu tinha no coração o propósito de construir um templo em honra do nome do Senhor, o meu Deus.8 Mas veio a mim esta palavra do Senhor: ‘Você matou muita gente e empreendeu muitas guerras. Por isso você não construirá um templo em honra do meu nome, pois derramou muito sangue na terra, diante de mim.9 Mas você terá um filho que será um homem de paz, e eu farei com que ele tenha paz com todos os inimigos ao redor dele. Seu nome será Salomão, e eu darei paz e tranqüilidade a Israel durante o reinado dele.10 É ele que vai construir um templo em honra do meu nome. Eu serei seu pai e ele será meu filho. E eu firmarei para sempre o trono do reinado dele sobre Israel’.11 "Agora, meu filho, que o Senhor seja com você, para que você consiga construir o templo do Senhor, o seu Deus, conforme ele disse que você faria.12 Que o Senhor lhe dê prudência e entendimento para que você obedeça à lei do Senhor, o seu Deus, quando ele o puser como líder de Israel.13 E você prosperará se for cuidadoso em obedecer aos decretos e às leis que o Senhor deu a Israel por meio de Moisés. Seja forte e corajoso! Não tenha medo nem se desanime!14 "Com muito esforço providenciei para o templo do Senhor três mil e quinhentas toneladas de ouro, trinta e cinco mil toneladas de prata, e tanto bronze e ferro que nem dá para calcular, além de madeira e pedra. E você ainda poderá aumentar a quantidade desse material.15 Você tem muitos trabalhadores: cortadores de pedras, pedreiros e carpinteiros, bem como especialistas em todo tipo de trabalho16 em ouro, prata, bronze e ferro. Agora comece o trabalho, e que o Senhor esteja com você".17 Então Davi ordenou a todos os líderes de Israel que ajudassem seu filho Salomão.18 Disse ele: "Certamente o Senhor, o seu Deus, está com vocês, e lhes concedeu paz. Pois ele entregou os habitantes dessa terra em minhas mãos, e ela foi submetida ao Senhor e ao seu povo.19 Agora consagrem o coração e a alma para buscarem o Senhor, o seu Deus. Comecem a construir o santuário de Deus, o Senhor, para que vocês possam trazer a arca da aliança do Senhor e os utensílios sagrados que pertencem a Deus para dentro do templo que será construído em honra do nome do Senhor".
