1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, he entered into Capernaum.2 And there came to him a captain, imploring him,3 and saying, Lord, my [young] slave lies in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.4 And he says to him, I will come and heal him.5 And the captain answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof; but only say the word, and my [young] slave will be healed.6 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.7 And when Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to those who followed, Truly I say to you{+}, I have found no one with such faith in Israel.8 And Jesus said to the captain, Go your way; as you have believed, [so] be it done to you. And his [young] slave was healed in that hour.9 Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent through his disciples10 and said to him, Are you he who comes, or do we look for another?11 And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John the things which you{+} hear and see:12 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.13 And blessed is he, whoever will find no occasion of stumbling in me.14 And as these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What did you{+} go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken with the wind?15 But what did you{+} go out to see? A man clothed in soft [raiment]? Look, those who wear soft [raiment] are in kings' houses.16 But why did you{+} go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I say to you{+}, and much more than a prophet.17 This is he, of whom it is written, Look, I send my messenger before your face, Who will prepare your way before you.18 Truly I say to you{+}, Among those who are born of women there has not arisen a greater than John the Baptist; yet, he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.19 But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their fellows20 and say, We piped to you{+}, and you{+} did not dance; we wailed, and you{+} did not mourn.21 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon.22 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Look, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is acknowledged as right by her children.23 Now when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the middle [of those present], and pleased Herod.24 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.25 And she, being put forward by her mother, says, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.26 And being grieved, the king, because of his oaths and because of those who sat to eat with him, he commanded it to be given;27 and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.28 And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the girl: and she brought it to her mother.29 And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him.30 And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.31 And Jesus came into a house. And the multitude came together, so that they could not so much as eat bread.32 While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, look, his mother and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him.33 And one said to him, Look, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you.34 But he answered and said to him that told him, Who is my mother? And who are my brothers?35 And looking on those around him, he said, Here are my mother and my brothers.36 For whoever will do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

1 "Não julguem, para que vocês não sejam julgados.2 Pois da mesma forma que julgarem, vocês serão julgados; e a medida que usarem, também será usada para medir vocês.3 "Por que você repara no cisco que está no olho do seu irmão, e não se dá conta da viga que está em seu próprio olho?4 Como você pode dizer ao seu irmão: ‘Deixe-me tirar o cisco do seu olho’, quando há uma viga no seu?5 Hipócrita, tire primeiro a viga do seu olho, e então você verá claramente para tirar o cisco do olho do seu irmão.6 "Não dêem o que é sagrado aos cães, nem atirem suas pérolas aos porcos; caso contrário, estes as pisarão e, aqueles, voltando-se contra vocês, os despedaçarão".7 "Peçam, e lhes será dado; busquem, e encontrarão; batam, e a porta lhes será aberta.8 Pois todo o que pede, recebe; o que busca, encontra; e àquele que bate, a porta será aberta.9 "Qual de vocês, se seu filho pedir pão, lhe dará uma pedra?10 Ou se pedir peixe, lhe dará uma cobra?11 Se vocês, apesar de serem maus, sabem dar boas coisas aos seus filhos, quanto mais o Pai de vocês, que está nos céus, dará coisas boas aos que lhe pedirem!12 Assim, em tudo, façam aos outros o que vocês querem que eles lhes façam; pois esta é a Lei e os Profetas".13 "Entrem pela porta estreita, pois larga é a porta e amplo o caminho que leva à perdição, e são muitos os que entram por ela.14 Como é estreita a porta, e apertado o caminho que leva à vida! São poucos os que a encontram".15 "Cuidado com os falsos profetas. Eles vêm a vocês vestidos de peles de ovelhas, mas por dentro são lobos devoradores.16 Vocês os reconhecerão por seus frutos. Pode alguém colher uvas de um espinheiro ou figos de ervas daninhas?17 Semelhantemente, toda árvore boa dá frutos bons, mas a árvore ruim dá frutos ruins.18 A árvore boa não pode dar frutos ruins, nem a árvore ruim pode dar frutos bons.19 Toda árvore que não produz bons frutos é cortada e lançada ao fogo.20 Assim, pelos seus frutos vocês os reconhecerão!21 "Nem todo aquele que me diz: ‘Senhor, Senhor’, entrará no Reino dos céus, mas apenas aquele que faz a vontade de meu Pai que está nos céus.22 Muitos me dirão naquele dia: ‘Senhor, Senhor, não profetizamos nós em teu nome? Em teu nome não expulsamos demônios e não realizamos muitos milagres? ’23 Então eu lhes direi claramente: ‘Nunca os conheci. Afastem-se de mim vocês, que praticam o mal! ’ "24 "Portanto, quem ouve estas minhas palavras e as pratica é como um homem prudente que construiu a sua casa sobre a rocha.25 Caiu a chuva, transbordaram os rios, sopraram os ventos e deram contra aquela casa, e ela não caiu, porque tinha seus alicerces na rocha.26 Mas quem ouve estas minhas palavras e não as pratica é como um insensato que construiu a sua casa sobre a areia.27 Caiu a chuva, transbordaram os rios, sopraram os ventos e deram contra aquela casa, e ela caiu. E foi grande a sua queda".28 Quando Jesus acabou de dizer essas coisas, as multidões estavam maravilhadas com o seu ensino,29 porque ele as ensinava como quem tem autoridade, e não como os mestres da lei.
