1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."

4 Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’"✝4:4 Deuteronomy 8:3

5 The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want. 7 If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours."

8 Jesus answered him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’"✝4:8 Deuteronomy 6:13

9 He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here, 10 for it is written,

‘He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;’

11 and,

‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.’"✝4:11 Psalms 91:11-12

12 Jesus answering, said to him, "It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’"✝4:12 Deuteronomy 6:16

13 When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.

14 Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area. 15 He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

16 He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written,

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, * 4:18 NU omits "to heal the broken hearted"

to proclaim release to the captives,

recovering of sight to the blind,

to deliver those who are crushed,

19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." ✝ 4:19 Isaiah 61:1-2

20 He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began to tell them, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

22 All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Isn’t this Joseph’s son?"

23 He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’" 24 He said, "Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25 But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land. 26 Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."

28 They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue as they heard these things. 29 They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff. 30 But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.

31 He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, "Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!"

35 Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down in the middle of them, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

36 Amazement came on all and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!" 37 News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

38 He rose up from the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him to help her. 39 He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them. 40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

42 When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn’t go away from them. 43 But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent." 44 He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Este scris*Deut. 6:13;10:20.: ‘Să te închini Domnului Dumnezeului tău și numai Lui să-I slujești.’"9 Diavolul*Mat. 4:5. L-a dus apoi în Ierusalim, L-a așezat pe streașina acoperișului Templului și I-a zis: „Dacă ești Fiul lui Dumnezeu, aruncă-Te jos de aici; 10 căci este scris*Ps. 91:11.: ‘El va porunci îngerilor Lui să Te păzească’; 11 și ‘ei Te vor lua pe mâini, ca nu cumva să Te lovești cu piciorul de vreo piatră.’" 12 Isus i-a răspuns: „S-a*Deut. 6:16.spus: ‘Să nu ispitești pe Domnul Dumnezeul tău.’"13 După ce L-a ispitit în toate felurile, diavolul a plecat de la El, până*Ioan 14:30.Evr. 4:15. la o vreme.

14 Isus*Mat. 4:12.Ioan 4:43., plin de*Vers. 1. puterea Duhului, S-a întors în Galileea*Fapte 10:37. și I s-a dus vestea în tot ținutul dimprejur. 15 El învăța pe oameni în sinagogile lor și era slăvit de toți.

16 A venit în Nazaret*Mat. 2:23;13:54.Marcu 6:1., unde fusese crescut, și*Fapte 13:14;17:2., după obiceiul Său, în ziua Sabatului a intrat în sinagogă. S-a sculat să citească 17 și I s-a dat cartea prorocului Isaia. Când a deschis-o, a dat peste locul unde era scris: 18 „Duhul*Is. 61:1.Domnului este peste Mine, pentru că M-a uns să vestesc săracilor Evanghelia, M-a trimis să tămăduiesc pe cei cu inima zdrobită, să propovăduiesc robilor de război slobozirea și orbilor, căpătarea vederii, să dau drumul celor apăsați19 și să vestesc anul de îndurare al Domnului."20 În urmă, a închis cartea, a dat-o înapoi îngrijitorului și a șezut jos. Toți cei ce se aflau în sinagogă aveau privirile pironite spre El. 21 Atunci, a început să le spună: „Astăzi s-au împlinit cuvintele acestea din Scriptură, pe care le-ați auzit."22 Și toți Îl vorbeau de bine, se*Ps. 45:2.Mat. 13:54.Marcu 6:2. Cap. 2:47. mirau de cuvintele pline de har care ieșeau din gura Lui și ziceau: „Oare*Ioan 6:42. nu este acesta feciorul lui Iosif?" 23 Isus le-a zis: „Fără îndoială, Îmi veți spune zicala aceea: ‘Doctore, vindecă-te pe tine însuți’ și Îmi veți zice: ‘Fă și aici, în patria*Mat. 4:13;11:23.Ta, tot ce am auzit că ai făcut în Capernaum*Mat. 13:54.Marcu 6:1..’24 Dar", a adăugat El, „adevărat vă spun că niciun proroc*Mat. 13:57.Marcu 6:4.Ioan 4:44.nu este primit bine în patria lui.25 Ba încă, adevărat vă spun că, pe vremea lui Ilie, când a fost încuiat cerul să nu dea ploaie trei ani și șase luni și când a venit o foamete mare peste toată țara, erau multe*1 Împ. 17:9;18:1.Iac. 5:17.văduve în Israel,26 și totuși Ilie n-a fost trimis la niciuna din ele, afară de o văduvă din Sarepta Sidonului.27 Și*2 Împ. 5:14.mulți leproși erau în Israel pe vremea prorocului Elisei, și totuși niciunul din ei n-a fost curățit, afară de Naaman, Sirianul."28 Toți cei din sinagogă, când au auzit aceste lucruri, s-au umplut de mânie. 29 Și s-au sculat, L-au scos din cetate și L-au dus până în sprânceana muntelui pe care era zidită cetatea lor, ca să-L arunce în prăpastie. 30 Dar Isus a trecut*Ioan 8:59;10:39. prin mijlocul lor și a plecat de acolo.

31 S-a*Mat. 4:3.Marcu 1:21. coborât în Capernaum, cetate din Galileea, și acolo învăța pe oameni în ziua Sabatului. 32 Ei erau uimiți de învățătura Lui, pentru că*Mat. 7:28,29.Tit 2:15. vorbea cu putere. 33 În*Marcu 1:23. sinagogă se afla un om care avea un duh de drac necurat și care a strigat cu glas tare: 34 „Ah! Ce avem noi a face cu Tine, Isuse din Nazaret? Ai venit să ne prăpădești? Te*Vers. 41. știu cine ești: Sfântul*Ps. 16:10.Dan. 9:24. Cap. 1:53. lui Dumnezeu." 35 Isus l-a certat și i-a zis: „Taci și ieși afară din omul acesta!" Și dracul, după ce l-a trântit jos, în mijlocul adunării, a ieșit afară din el, fără să-i facă vreun rău. 36 Toți au fost cuprinși de spaimă și ziceau unii către alții: „Ce înseamnă lucrul acesta? El poruncește cu stăpânire și cu putere duhurilor necurate, și ele ies afară!" 37 Și I s-a dus vestea în toate împrejurimile.

38 După ce*Mat. 8:14.Marcu 1:29. a ieșit din sinagogă, a intrat în casa lui Simon. Soacra lui Simon era prinsă de friguri mari și L-au rugat pentru ea. 39 El S-a plecat spre ea, a certat frigurile și au lăsat-o frigurile. Ea s-a sculat îndată și a început să le slujească.

40 La*Mat. 8:16.Marcu 1:32. asfințitul soarelui, toți cei ce aveau bolnavi atinși de felurite boli îi aduceau la El. El Își punea mâinile peste fiecare din ei și-i vindeca. 41 Din*Marcu 1:34;3:11. mulți ieșeau și draci, care strigau și ziceau: „Tu ești Hristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu." Dar El*Marcu 1:25,34. Vers. 34,35. îi mustra și nu-i lăsa să vorbească, pentru că știau că El este Hristosul. 42 Când*Marcu 1:35. s-a crăpat de ziuă, Isus a ieșit și S-a dus într-un loc pustiu. Noroadele au început să-L caute în toate părțile și au ajuns până la El: voiau să-L oprească să nu plece de la ei. 43 Dar El le-a zis: „Trebuie să vestesc Evanghelia Împărăției lui Dumnezeu și în alte cetăți, fiindcă pentru aceasta am fost trimis."44 Și*Marcu 1:39. propovăduia în sinagogile Galileii.
